Whitby to Runswick Bay - The Cleveland Way 🌼 . Another section of the Cleveland Way ticked off! The weather wasn’t as great as a couple of weekends before however it was still a great day! Alfie here… Bodhi is having a nap so I thought I would post. I have been living here for almost 3 weeks. My daddy is apparently getting better and I might soon be able to go back home. In the meantime, this is home. I have had lots of adventures and we are walking something called @clevelandwaynt . Mummy ( I call her that too now) and Bodhi have been doing it for a while, and I joined them. We have walked from Guisborough to Saltburn ( fortunately not all in one go). Today we took a bus back to our car. And then I went to see a lovely lady, called Charlene, who fitted me in for a bath and nail trim. #ClevelandWay day 4. Saltburn to Runswick Bay. A bit wet that one, Hampered by the time today. Couldn't start as early as I wanted and have to be back for the @theboroofficial match tonight. So could only manage to get 12 mile in. By far the best day of the walk. Miles better scenery from the moors and some of the fishing villages along the coast line are superb. Even if it was raining. The Pursuit of Spring - the final day. The sky was singing all day. As we left the moors there were curlews, lapwings & the eerie thrumming of snipe; over the chrome yellow fields skylarks & swallows in abundance; in the woods blackcap, chiff-chaff & warblers & then finally the sea, gulls riding the northerlies like it was all a big lark. It’s been an extraordinary five days, with a vicious north wind that felt like it was personal, but today the sun shone, the leaves on the birch & beech unfurled electric green almost before our eyes, & England in April was just as it should be. Round Hill is the highest point of the North Yorkshire Moors, and is the summit of Urra Moor. It’s East of Clay bank and before Bloworth Crossing. It’s about 20mts north from the path which is both the Coast to Coast, the Cleveland Way & the Lyke Wake walk. Here is a walk I completed a couple of weeks ago on a trip to our lovely Yorkshire coast. It is a short 4 mile walk, along the clifftops just north of Scarborough. The winds were fierce by the sea but quickly disappeared a few metres inland, or so it seemed. The weather didn't quite know what to do, varying from sunshine to cloud, thankfully, there were no showers. Starting at the car park marked on the map, a muddy path led quickly to the clifftops and almost as quickly to a distinctive white wooden building. This turned out to be Long Nab Coastguard Station and Mine Shelter. It was built in 1939 and was important during WW2 as a lookout for enemy mines and torpedoes. Today it is a bird observatory but it wasn't open. The clifftop path is a part of the #clevelandway, I've done stretches of it previously, but not along here. This tiny section had the usual glorious views of sea, sky and cliffs backed by fields. The hedgerows and gorse were coming into blossom. The second half of the route (just an evening walk) was along lanes and a cinder track that follows the line of the old railway, I forgot to take some snapshots along here. This goes all the way to Whitby and I've done other stretches of this too. Back along a quiet road to the car where Scarborough Castle topped the cliffs. I'd visited this earlier in the day, there were fabulous views from there too! I think the forecast for the weekend is good. In Pursuit of Spring - Day 3 & 4 Back to winter again. Sarah & I have walked fifty miles mostly in ‘Window’ weather (the sort of weather best seen from the other side of a stout pain of glass). Yesterday the wind was so fierce that it blew us over & I swore so much that even I ran out of expletives 🤬 But we both sort of loved it. Our last walk together was in 1989 & somehow life intervened & there was never any time or opportunity to do a big walk. But the last four days have been such a laugh, & so downright silly. Last night we were in the bar at Chop Yat howling our heads off & wondering if this position for Molecatcher was still available.
