Kicking off the first day of May (an exciting month here for us again ☺️) with Day 1 of #memademay2024 and it’s the sheet dress I was trying to finish for my birthday last week {and a lovely jubbly “thank you” for all your birthday wishes on my last post}. The dress was indeed finished in time but something went a wry and it was too tight even for me! So I had to unpick the bodice, remove some darts at the back which is making the bodice not so neat looking, but there we are, just like the daisies on the dress I’m slightly wildly dishevelled. Me-made-May is about wearing and loving your me-made clothes, not making new ones for it or worrying about not having made enough since last May. But It’s also about enjoying it and having fun and getting inspired and not overthinking the whys and wherefores. Some of mine will be real favourites that I wear a lot and have to be shoe-horned out of 😆 and everything in between. This was a very focused, creative, highly artistic, as well as career (and artistry) driven time in music. Every day was new and exciting when creating. This era seemed to embody the notion that if you dreamt big, set goals, worked super hard, were prayerful and steadfast through and through, that all of those dreams and hallmarks would come to pass with a mixture of talent, passion, work ethic, like mindedness, and a sprinkle of pixie dust. Truly unique, unorthodox talent and sincere dedication prevailed, and underdogs could indeed win. #Inspiration and musical drive was high, and everything felt like an endless, magical summer. Diligent, hard work was certainly included, but that industrious perseverance was also peppered with a great deal of fun and excitement. Feelings of achievement and accomplishment were prevalent, like, one believed in oneself, but never in a boastful or braggadocious fashion, but #belief in dreams and goals was a true tenet, to be sure. Music spoke for itself without a stitch of hypocrisy or pretentiousness. It was purely spiritual to me. I most definitely believed in wishing, hoping, and dreaming, and the ability to make dreams come true, often willing achievements into existence. As a singer / songwriter / professional musician, these years were the happiest of my musical life; a way young, fun, exuberant, extremely fruitful, and jovial time, I was on the same roster / company as my great, gifted, and ultra inspiring friends and collaborators, and we all also shared the same fabulous producer, who is my artistic collaborator and colleague to this day. My Runversary is tomorrow, May 1. But, something special happened on the evening on April 30, 2022. It was the day I made a decision. I got this idea (thank you, God) to run every day in May. I didn’t question it. I just did it. I faced my depression and anxiety head on and kept a promise to myself, to complete what I started. Once I completed my goal, I kept running… and running and running. I started talking to God more, setting more goals, matching them with achievements. I changed my mindset and my diet, lost weight (in more ways than one), ran few races, including my first marathon. I became a new person. God is not done with me, yet. I’m still pressing on with more goals up my sleeve. But whenever I get discouraged, I think of the evening of April 30 when a Voice told me to just run. So, what’s your decision? This orchid plant is possibly older than Jacob. I honestly have no idea when or where my mom got it. I just know she never gave up on trying to get it to rebloom. I think it might have a few times when she was still with us and even once since she’s passed, I think about a year ago it started to die off. I cut it back never giving up hope. About two months ago I started watering it a little differently and noticed some new growth. 10 years ago yesterday was my Day 1… 10 years ago I finally just said f*ck it, I’m over this. Over feeling so miserable about myself, my low self worth, my lack in confidence. My depression and codependency. Against anything life was going to throw my way. I was DETERMINED to make a change. After 10 years, my body has made many changes, the good and the bad. I fought for many things on this journey; my health, my physical fitness, my dedication to consistency, eating disorders, the emotional ups and downs that come with change, confidence and mental strength I’ve never possessed before. This journey not only empowered me in my personal life, but kept me sharp in my professional life, as well. 10 years ago, that decision I made for “day one” has been the best commitment I’ve ever made.
