It was another wonderful short trip to Naarm/Melbourne to attend the Deaf Children Australia art competition. We, as Deaf artists, @suejowright , @chelle_destefano and I were the judges and had a tough time choosing winners and runners-up because they were all fantastic! If he got separated from his medical bag then he would still have low treatments on him, on hand. ✨ Glucose works the QUICKEST and is PRECISE. • Guessing and drinking half a juice box is not productive. • Eating fruit snacks will not bring a low up quickly, and it will cause a high later due to its slow absorption. • You will tend to eat other crap while you’re waiting for bg to rise. • Definitely not great low options. Also… • If you are treating lows with 10-20g carbs, you are obviously are overdosing on insulin. An extremely HORRIBLE situation for a school setting. He usually needs 1-2 candies (1-2g) to bring bg from 70 up to 80. ✨ These little ziplocks are the BEST! Pill pouches are from Walmart, located with the pill organization containers ✅ I stuff them full and they hold a ton! ✨ Insulin ORGANIZATION ✅ A SIMPLE way to stack and store! “You better show the people what you make me do” 🤣 Acting like it’s difficult 😂 Our prescriptions are written as a 90 day prescription, and we receive it through a home delivery pharmacy. It saves money doing a 90 day vs a 30 day. Plus, we have backups ✅ Check your insurance! We HAVE to ORGANIZE supplies! Especially, with two of us. Especially, INSULIN. The insulin is separated by brand and date, and put into Tupperwares. • We throw out the boxes • Pull out the previous ones • Sort by brand • Organize the dates I store half the Tupperwares of each brand in a drawer in the main fridge, and half the Tupperwares in a smaller fridge upstairs in our laundry room- we use these first. If the fridge happens to freeze- the insulin would destroyed. If the fridge happens to shut off and it became warm- no issue. You can always use a cooler if needed! I never store the insulin in the door of the fridge, it’s ALWAYS opened and closed. The temperature is definitely not regulated consistently. That’s it ✅ The insulin is kept together all in one place, EASY to grab and go in case of an evacuation ✅ ✨ You NEVER know. ✨ The WHY behind this page. I’ve personally experienced or been a parent of every stage of T1 up to this point in life. Baby, toddler, child, teen, adult, pregnancy- whether it was myself or him. There’s NO reason to make T1 harder than it needs to be. There’s an EASIER way. • Parents deserve OPTIONS. • Parents have the right to receive ACCURATE information so they have the ability to achieve effective results. Our kids are everything and their health is top priority. He deserves NORMAL numbers. He deserves to have HEALTHY eyes. He deserves to FEEL amazing. He DESERVES better. There is no difference between his body and his siblings other than a shady pancreas. Eyes heart kidneys are the same. That’s exactly how they should REMAIN. Low carb PREVENTS high blood sugars, which prevents COMPLICATIONS. Just because he’s labeled “diabetic”doesn’t mean that his quality of health should diminish and fail quicker than theirs. Or, life expectancy be drastically reduced. When diagnosed with any disease ALL options are presented, considered, offered, then the BEST approach is accepted and a plan is developed. The best approach is chosen to ACHIEVE the longest healthiest life with that disease. • The system is FAILING diabetics. • The system is FAILING to reevaluate the standard of care. • The system is profiting billions, YES, billions a year from insulin. How’s that working for the diabetic community? It’s NOT, NEVER has, and never WILL. So why is a low carb option not being considered? Not being offered to parents and patients? Not being taught? When low carb proves over and over superior RESULTS. Why? Because “professionals” try to scare parents with their famous line of “carbs are required for growth” Complete bullsh!t. Ok, so… Let’s have a child grow tall, but at 30 eyesight is diminishing, 40 kidneys begin to fail, 50 loses 3 toes, 60 heart attack. But, that kid grew. What the actual??? THE biggest lie ever told regarding low carb. Doctors you KNOW it, DO better. Parents continue to seek ACCURATE information. 🧊 I do not believe in ice baths when it comes to aches, pains, or soreness from a workout 🧊 Here’s the reason why 👇🏼👇🏼 Inflammation is the body’s natural way of communicating damage, it is essentially the precursor for your body to begin the natural healing process. Inflammation increases blood flow which alerts the body to injury, begins to remove the harmful stimuli, and finally leads to the growth of healthy tissue where damage once was. More specifically, the inflammatory response is a histological action which affects the blood vessels and surrounding area of the injured tissue in order to heal. When you take an ice bath right after exercise you suppress inflammation, hinder muscle growth, and delay muscle regeneration. Ice baths reduce pain but they also slow down the healing process due the affect of low temperature upon inflammation. I’d rather deal with an ache for few days while it heals compared to taking ice baths for weeks on end just to manage the pain while simultaneously extending the period of time it takes to heal. This is the same for sore muscles from extreme exercise, embrace the soreness instead of masking the feeling of it with ice. Feeling sore means you are growing, pain is growth… there is no reason to hide from it. Of course there are circumstances where ice 🧊 is absolutely necessary involving surgery, serious injury, and physical rehab where range of motion is a necessity for proper healing. Other than that don’t listen to everything you see on Instagram , Ice baths are good on occasion to shock the system…. Don’t over do them, inflammation is key for rapid and natural growth. I believe in heat, heat, and a little more heat to stay healthy… get in a hot tub. This is not medical advice this is just from my personal experience. Ethan has really been practicing his skateboard skills and wanted to show Willow & I, so we went to the ramps at Seaclose Park. He is brilliant and showed so much improvement compared to the last time I saw him doing it!!! 🍰 #cake makes my world go 'round ⬇️ 🎂 I've noticed that #birthdays have quite a varying level of meanings to different people. It could upbringing, culture, even traumatic association, or just personal preference that result in people wanting to #celebrate it in different ways (or not celebrate it at all). I happen to have a strong desire to celebrate the birth and existence of my favourite people, but they don't always feel the same. To some, it's just another day. To others, it could be a milestone; a true #celebration that they've made it this far being alive. Some don't like or care for the extra attention. Some look forward to it and wish it happened more than once a year. Some love a big party, and some love a small dinner. In my journey of growing my awareness and consideration toward others (and recognising that what I want matters too), I've learned that the best way to #love someone well on their birthday is to find out what makes them happy, rather than presume, and then plan according to said presumptions. This obv doesn't just apply to birthdays, but I've seen many a #birthday somewhat ruined due to that kind of carelessness. Almost like a selfish way to use someone else's birthday to make one feel better about themselves for doing what they *think* works rather than taking the time to find out what does. What we as humans crave is first to be #known, then to be #loved. Because you can't claim to fully love someone you don't fully know. And if you truly love someone, you'll take the time to understand what they need and want. P.S. No, it's not my #birthday today 🤣 I just love cake~! 😻
