Lazy tomato and kale galette with @alouettecheese garlic herb cheese spread and @traderjoes frozen pie crust. I did nothing to avoid a soggy bottom and I STILL got a soggy bottom. Can you believe that??? I did a second one just tomatoes and cheese and for that one, I salted the tomatoes to draw out the moisture. It worked way better and that should surprise no one. So let this be a lesson to anyone else who is feeling lazy- SALT THE TOMATOES. Unless of course, you don’t really care and you’ve never imagined Paul Hollywood in your kitchen saying something like “bit of a shame innit?”, and you feel like a failure. I made this tonight and I couldn’t wait to share, even though it would have made a great #ToastTuesday 😋 . . . Here we have sourdough bread with a light spread of mayo with Dijon mustard and then topped with Serrano ham, manchego cheese and shallots quickly broiled and then on top of that is arugula and apples tossed in a very simple vinaigrette. The ham and cheese were from A Taste of Spain inside @rdgterminalmkt which is new to the market. . . . OH MY GOD THIS WAS SO GOOD! The high quality of the ingredients is what made it so exceptional. Did you know that @adamlevine is superstitious??? I’ve known this about him for a while, which is why I knew that I had to make him something for good luck on New Years! Now, I don’t know much about luck. In my experience, good things just happen to rich people. It has nothing to do with finding four leaf clovers or holding a rabbit’s foot. But, for whatever reason, Adam still believes he has to do things for “good luck”. So, the first thing I thought of was Black Eyed Peas, so I asked him what he thought of them and he said “Don’t tell anyone i said this, but they suck”. Now, looking back I think I maybe should have been more specific that I was talking about FOOD, but nonetheless I came up with a back up plan. I heard that eating pork on New Years Day was good luck and it promoted progress. Pigs move around with their little snouts leading the way so I guess that just symbolizes moving forward??? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I really don’t know but Adam bought it. Good morning!🌞 I am SO GLAD that the last time I made banana bread, I made two loaves and froze one because this morning @willsmith and @jadapinkettsmith called me and said they were going to be in the area soon and wanted to drop by for quick hugs. @sethgreen is one of those friends who knows they can just show up unannounced and I’m always happy to have them. This time I was able to whip up these savory pastries for us to snack on. I cooked some Swiss chard with bacon and shallots then I got ALL the moisture out and added cheese (I honestly can’t even remember what kind, it was just what I had on hand). I said, “Jimmy! That’s ridiculous. There’s no way that’s true.” And he was like, “no seriously! I dont know what to do. PLEASE HELP!” And so I said fine. I knew exactly what she needed- Mujadara. It’s a delicious combination of rice, lentils and spices topped with caramelized shallots. I added some roasted veggies for added nutrients and textures. I told @paul.hollywood that I am NOT a baker, but he really wanted a tomato galette made with heirloom tomatoes from New Jersey. Every summer I make this corn and tomato rice salad from the @southernlivingmag Annual recipes from 2008. I had bought it for when Tropic Thunder came out and I wanted to make a really good celebratory meal for @benstiller 🎉 I don’t know why, but that was a great year for recipes... Today I went down to #Baltimore which is the focus of my new book about fabulous food and famous celebrities. @edwardnortonofficial and I got together to discuss all the things that make the city great. One of the many, MANY reasons is the fact that you can find all kinds of roadside stands that sell crabs and crabcakes. Outside of a liquor store? ✅ Next to the fire station? ✅ In a flea market parking lot? ✅ You don’t have to look very far and fortunately I found this little stand as soon as I reached the Maryland line. I got a soft shell crab sandwich and Edward got a crab cake sandwich. We shared the hush puppies and fries with @oldbay_seasoning 😋 Everything was great, but the major triumph was the tomatoes. You can’t even see them in this picture but they were PERFECT. I’m not a fan of summer, but I know that this particular sandwich is not something that could taste nearly as good any other time of the year. I used to be very anti-cauliflower substitutions for carbs and meat. That is until @mindykaling told me about cauliflower buffalo wings. I was highly suspicious because buffalo wings are one of my favorite foods and I couldn’t imagine cauliflower could replace it. But Mindy was like “I know, but trust me these aren’t that bad!” And it’s true- they really aren’t that bad!
