Sport has always been a huge positive in my. It can be a powerful tool in boosting self-confidence! Whether it’s through setting and achieving goals, building physical strength, or working as part of a team, sports can help us believe in ourselves and our abilities. Sometimes it’s hard to overcome insecurities and to see the awesomeness that others see. But sport can provide so many ‘Whys’, beyond finishing a race or getting a medal. MEDAL MONDAY! So yesterday we did a thing. Rocked up to the Oulton Park duathlon and just did the British Paraduathlon Championships. We knew I’d be slow with my lack of running over winter so running the lot on a trapped nerve was my aim. Also, being race 1/5 in the Super Series we just wanted to get any points rather than no points. And racing in my new kit @triharderuk, we wanted to see improvements from our last race in August and we knew the bike and transitions were going to be the targets. 1. Stepped up our transition with having my shoes on the bike. 2. Definitely a stronger bike section showing gym work paying off. Motivate Monday with this post kindly written with the permission of @jenkinsmatt87 . I coached Matt for his recent crack at a 3 he 5 min time @chimarathon . Training went perfectly then 2 weeks out, a calf tear. We did everything we could and he rolled the dice. Half way on target pace then bang. 3 hrs 42. Very respectable but not what Matt wanted. Sadly things don’t always work out. We must come again. But how do you deal with disappointment? 1. Reflect and learn: Take time to identify any obstacles, mistakes, or areas where you could improve. Use this as a learning opportunity to adjust your approach and set more realistic or specific goals in the future. 2. Practice self-compassion: Be kind to yourself and avoid self-criticism. Acknowledge that setbacks are a normal part of life and that everyone experiences them. Treat yourself with understanding and compassion, just as you would support a friend who didn't achieve their goal. 3. Focus on the progress made: Instead of dwelling on what you didn't achieve, shift your focus to the progress you have made so far. Celebrate the smaller milestones and accomplishments along the way. Recognise that progress is not always linear, and setbacks do not negate the progress you have already made. 4. B1: Athletes will have no perception of light or may have some perception of light and the ability to detect movement, but they will be unable to recognize shapes. B2: Athletes will have significantly limited vision, either in terms of distance or width of their visual field. This category includes the ability to count fingers or read something at a very short distance. It also includes athletes whose visual field is greatly reduced, even if their visual acuity is higher. B3: Athletes will have greatly limited visual acuity and/or a restricted visual field. B3 is the highest category used in most international and Paralympic sports. The recreational classification system of British Blind Sport is the only one that includes B4 and B5 sight categories. This allows more athletes to participate in local and national sports on an equal footing. B5 is the highest level of sight used in Visually Impaired Sport. If an athlete surpasses the threshold for a B5 classification, we can often provide them with a 'Visually Impaired Athlete Certificate' for use in open competitions. He was born on May 28, 1993, in Cambridge. @04jonpea is known for his success in the T44 category of sprinting, which is for athletes with below-the-knee amputations. He gained international recognition when he won the gold medal in the 100 meters at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, setting a new Paralympic record. he has since continued to excel in his sport, winning multiple medals at various international competitions. In recognition of his achievements, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2013. It affects both males and females across various sports and can have serious consequences on health and performance. 🚫⚡️ Here are some key points to understand about RED-S: 1️⃣ Energy deficiency: RED-S is primarily caused by an inadequate energy intake, meaning the body doesn't receive enough fuel to support its energy needs. This can lead to a wide range of health issues. 2️⃣ Hormonal disruption: Insufficient energy intake can disrupt hormone production, affecting the menstrual cycle in females and leading to hormonal imbalances in males. This can have long-term consequences on bone health, fertility, and overall well-being. 3️⃣ Performance decline: RED-S can significantly impact athletic performance. So today @andy25runner and I raced at @thearcticonefoundation Para Tri British Champs. Fantastic race at Eton Dorney. Absolutely loved it - and rounded off an epic swim and bike with a seasons best 5km in 28:15. Just a mad day racing with world champion and British Triathlon elite para athletes. I have absolute faith that if anyone can get me round, it’s you. I’ll do whatever I need to’ Fast forward to 09/07/23 and it turns out that a half Ironman is bloody hard, but my faith in Rob was not misplaced! I am an Outlaw. My belief in myself was tenuous at times, but with his consistent support, meticulous planning and uncanny ability to smell bulls*** at a 100 paces, not to mention his unwillingness to ever give up - and we smashed it! I believe that Rob invests in his athletes and gives something of himself to all of us. He always makes you feel like you’re his only focus and you have his undivided attention and commitment. Honestly, you could not ask for more. I have cycled and run before but we both knew that swimming, at all, never mind 1900 metres in open water, had the potential to be a deal breaker. I have read back through all our messages and can’t quite believe that I was struggling to swim 25 metres in a pool at the beginning of the year. If Rob was concerned, you’d never have known it. Yes, he did give me some pep talks and tough love, but that’s what I needed to break through my self imposed barriers. It worked. He listened to my excuses, explanations and whinging and cut straight to the chase, every time…which can be bloody annoying, but was exactly what I needed. Messages like ‘we do not quit’, ‘we will conquer this’, ‘ trust the process’ are not trite platitudes. It’s the absolute sincerity with which Rob says them that motivates, encourages and enthuses. This has been an incredible journey, both physically and mentally and I would 100% do it again. Medal/motivation Monday comes to us in the way of 2 beautiful triathletes!! Firstly @rachknight_ raced the Standard Distance British Championships in Sunderland in an awesome 2:32:57 off the back of stomach cramps and BEING STUNG BY JELLYFISH 🪼!! We then head over to Nottingham where @shaunington finished the Outlaw Full Triathlon in 12:38:00. Absolutely insane after 2 weeks no running - must have been the tape!!
