. . . #larswildesstaudehaven #danishgarden #nordicgarden #blumen #gärten #staude #stauder #stauderihaven #stauderihagen #hagen #trädgård #smallgardenideas #cottagegardenflowers #perennialsofinstagram #gardentipsandtricks #havetipsogtricks #smallgardens #pieris #japonica

Pansies are fabulous little plants to bring a pop of colour to your winter displays and here are the top reasons we love them: 🌸Pansy flower heads follow the sun during the day, so plant them in the sunniest spot possible for the best results. 🌸Pansy blooms can be regularly deadheaded to keep the plant producing more flowers. 🌸Pansy leaves will not grow much during the colder months, so they can be squeezed into spaces between other plants or planted close together in winter displays for an impactful display. 🌸If your pansies get too leggy, you can cut them back with scissors, and they’ll bush out and produce more flowers. 🌸Come springtime, pansies will start to put on a little more growth and can grow up to 20cm wide. 🌸The flowers of pansies not only make great decorations for cakes but they are edible too. Show us your pansies! Tag us in photos of your pansies!

I still can’t believe my mum can do this 🥰 Why ? My parents live in Slovakia ( Eastern Europe) where winters can be cold and snowy. By braiding them all, It prevents them from turning into a floppy snowy mess during winter. Also this way, they can provide a shall shelter for all the bugs and small creatures during winter. Plus it looks a lot more appealing too. After the winter, you simply cut it all down to root in early spring for it to regrow. Hope this helps 😘 #gardenideas #ornamentalgrasses #preparingforwinter #gardentips #gardentipsandtricks

Chop and Drop 🌿 I told my client in Nambour about this method and I'm so happy she was open to it. Chop and drop is a great way to improve the quality of your soil, as it breaks down overtime, and the decomposed plant matter will give the soil more nutrients. It is also a great way to save some money as you don't have to take the green waste away from site. I will return with mulch to help speed up the process. #garden #gardening #gardentips #gardentipsandtricks #permaculture #permaculturegarden #permaculturedesign #landscaping #landacape #pruning

Y’all I couldn’t wait another second!! Tomato planting: 1. Dig a nice hole 2. Boop the lowest leaves off and put that ‘mater in there deep 3. But first! Hole in one and a cuppa coffee. Add an egg and some coffee grounds. Mash that lil egg up first. 4. Depot and plop her in 5. Cover and build a tiny hillside for the tomato to sit on or it’ll drown to death 6. Water in or do it on a rainy day Step two for thrifty witchy gardeners: 1. Gather your boops (the leafy stems you plucked) 2. Fill something with water. Tap is fine. Babied tomatoes are weak and stupid. 3. Stick the bottom of them in the water (pop all but top 3-5 leaves off) 4. If you get leaves wet you lose 5. Reap your free extra baby tomato plants in 1-2 weeks. Transplant into pots or the garden once you see creepy lil roots shooting off the bottom. Any showing of weakness - compost that sucker!

🌼In the whimsical world of gardens, squash flowers, also affectionately called zucchini blossoms or courgette flowers, grace the scene with their beauty and flavor. 🐝In the squash patch, flowers come in two types: male and female. Males strut their stuff on slender stems, while females flaunt a tiny bulb, promising future fruit if pollinated. The males have to be present for fruit to be pollinated, so both play equal roles in bringing your harvest to the dinner table. 🥣These floral wonders aren’t just pretty faces; they’re a delectable treat too! With a delicate, slightly sweet flavor tinged with squash essence, they’re equally delightful raw or cooked. Squash flowers are culinary globetrotters, starring in dishes from soups to salads, stuffed with cheese or herbs, and fried or baked to perfection. Be sure to only harvest the male blooms, so your harvest doesn’t decline! ☀️For a bountiful harvest, pluck squash flowers in the early morning when they’re at their freshest and perkiest. To keep your squash patch in full bloom, shower your plants with sunlight, water, and nutrients, and give them some space to strut their stuff. ✨So, while squash flowers may not be the superheroes of nutrition, they still add a dash of charm and flavor to your garden and table alike! #squashflowers #squash #gardentips #gardentipsandtricks #pollinating #zucchini

Someone taught me the best trick for plant labels this year, and had to share it. Purchase a small aluminium blind at somewhere like Bunnings or at a second hand shop. They are really cheap and you can get narrow ones so they are easy to bring home. Remove the strings etc and then you can cut the individual slats up into short lengths. Being a light weight aluminium they don’t break down and snap, and being white they are easy to see and write on. You can even screw them into a post, cable tie or wire them to a star picket, or drill a hole in them and tie them to a plant. I seriously won’t go back now I’m using them. Today I’m going through the chrysanthemums and making sure they all have these labels. The chrysanthemum pictured is Zembla Lime. #gardentipsandtricks #gardentips #microflowerfarm

𝐇𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐀𝐍 𝐃𝐘𝐑𝐊𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐔 𝐃𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄? Ud over haveglæde, dyrkes havens mange rum på forskellig vis. I jorden. Hvad eller hvordan dyrker du din have? . . #haveliv #haveinspiration #havedesign #dyrkselv

This is Yarrow. It’s an herbaceous perennial that is hardy in USDA zones 2-9. The plant’s hemostatic properties (the ability to stem bleeding) made it a top medication of choice for treating war injuries in ancient times. Today, advanced bandaging and pressure is the method used for serious injuries. However! This is a great plant to grow for every household. Dried and ground leaves can be stored in airtight containers and pulled out in the event children (or you) sustain a minor injury that causes bleeding. Today, it is still taken internally to reduce or stop internal bleeding. Yarrow flowers are a strong diaphoretic and can be taken as a tea to inducing a sweat and breaking a fever. The flowers are the highest in the volatile oil during dry weather. ‼️ Warnings: yarrow is often a safe remedy, but should not be taken regularly. Always do your own research and consult with your doctor. 🌿Planting specifications: plants can spread quickly, providing a little extra growing room is advised. Yarrow is fairly tolerant and can do well, even in poor soils. The plant will perform well in rich garden soils, but often prefers sandy, gravelly loam.

Unpopular opinion… I don’t mulch in my garlic when I plant in the fall. Throw the cloves in the ground and walk away! I’ve done this for years. Why? Because I am lazy. 😅 If garlic is going to grow anyways and it can tolerate a few hard frosts… I am not going the extra mile with the mulching. 🤭 Ask me if I mulch my strawberries? 🫢 . . #plantinggarlic #inthegarden #gardentipsandtricks #growyourown

Sneglane likar gras, men eit tynt lag tørker fort, og dei likar ikkje å kravle over tørt gras. #sneglefelle #ølfelle #hagenmin #hagetips #hageliv #mygarden #hageglede #hobbygartner #dyrkselv #gardentipsandtricks #vårihagen #springgarden #solblikk #opplevstord #hagegal #hagegalskap #vår #spring #humorihagen #havehumor #havetips

🌸 Dividing Plants 🪴 A few weeks ago I divided one of my Phlox Paniculata as it had started to outgrow its pot. I wanted to do it before it got root bound and the blooms start to suffer. I’ve had this Phlox for coming into 7 years this year and noticed last summer the second flush of flowers weren’t doing as well as previous years. This is an ideal time to divide plants before they start to get stressed and produce less flowers. By dividing perennials it helps promote a healthier more vigorous plant, it also allows you to multiple your stock, who doesn’t love a free plant. You need to divide your plants in either autumn or spring. I lifted the plant from its pot and used a pruning saw. I split the plant in half from the middle and repotted it into two big pots which will allow for the roots to grow. The plants went into shock for a few days after I divided them however, they’re both now thriving and I can’t wait to see all the beautiful flowers in summer. I could’ve split the plant into 6 small plants but because I’d never divided a plant before I aired on the side of caution and only split it in to two. I’ll see how the plants grow this year and I may divide them again next spring. It’s important to water your plants well until they establish. If you’re replanting into beds & boarders you need to add in either well rotted manure, soil improver or compost, this will help the plant establish and grow. This was my very first lerennial plant I brought for this garden and one of my favourite plants so I just hope I’ve done it right. #dividingplants #dividingperennials #perennialplants #perennialgarden #cottagegarden #cottagegardening #gardeninspiration #containergardening #instagarden #instagardeners #instagardenlovers #gardeninglife #gardeningismytherapy #gardenflowers #mygardenflowers #gardengram #flourishwithflowers #gardeninstagram #pollinatorgarden #pollinatorplants #dividing #divideyourplants #gardenjoys #gardenlove #gardentips #gardentipsandtricks #gardeners 🌷 Follow me @flourish_with_flowers_ to watch this stunning plant bloom 🌷 .

Wandering plants!! Here’s a pic of one of my Panicled Aster - Symphyotrichum lanceolatum - mother plants. These babies make super long “runners” that pop up multiple stems from each long root. Another example of a plant that is best given a lot of space, unless you love the task of dealing with high maintenance plant babies! 😆🌱🌱🌱🌱 Need a control method? Plant your wandering rooted plants such as this one or mints in pots with the bottoms removed and plant the entire pot. It’s not a sure fire way to stop the spread, but in my experience this does a great job of slowing things down. I use worn out terra cotta pots for this job, but this aster was a volunteer and I let her go a little crazy! Got a tip for controlling unruly native plants? 𝐇𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐀𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐃𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐓 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐃𝐈𝐆? Reasons Why I Love Raised Beds I get asked a lot about my raised beds. I love them, they just work best for me and where I’m growing. Here are some of the reasons why I love them. 1.) They look nice and tidy, and are easy to get around when I’m working. 2.) They are perfect for no till gardening. I just add amendments to the top. 3.) I grow quite a bit on a hill and they keep the soil in place. 4.) I have very heavy clay soil so I just add better soil in the raised beds. 5.) I have way less weeds in my raised beds. Tip time! If you haven’t pulled your dahlia bulbs out of the dark yet, now is a good time to do that. And if anyone out there can actually see the eyes on the tubers, consider playing the lotto? Your ability to see the future is mythic.

Happy (?) Earth Day! Why “happy(?)”, you ask? Personally I feel the concept of an Earth day strange. Every day is Earth Day - we lived on Earth yesterday and, god wiling, we will go on living here tomorrow and the day after that. The concept of a day to celebrate the only home we have, to me, seems like the biggest greenwashing “awareness day” going. “Happy” because, well, our Mother Earth isn’t exactly best pleased with us all now. But there is so much we can do, and although that “we” isn’t equal and the sole responsibility doesn’t fall at the feet of individuals, there are things we can all do: - Write to your MP about the state of our waterways, and to your water company - especially when they send you a bill or estimate! - Consider eating less meat, and if you do choose to eat animals, source that with the best welfare and farming credentials - Fly less. It’s a lot easier than you think For those of us lucky enough to have gardens, there are so many things we can do that have HUGE impact: - Consider planting a tree. There are plenty of small trees to suit gardens of all sizes, which can provide blossom for pollinators and berries for birds - Plant native plants - you don’t have to plant a whole meadow! - If you’re tight for space, consider planting long-flowering perennials in pots such as geraniums, gaura or agastache to provide a buffet for bees all summer long - Again if you are tight for space, consider planting vertically. Climbers clothe bare fences and many have scented flowers - great for bees, butterflies and moths! What do you think about Earth Day? Silly bit of greenwashing or genuine day of awareness and action? #earthday #earthday2024 #gardendesign #londongarden #gardentips #gardentipsandtricks #gardentipsforbeginners #gardenslondon #garden #plants #plantsmakepeoplehappy

It’s time!! Do you protect your fruits? 🍒 One of the top things to do in the garden late spring is protect your fruit! 🌱 This year I have expanded from just a few cherry sleeves to also trying individual fruit bags! They are unfortunately kind of ugly but it’s the only way we will get some cherries 🍒 Protecting the reachable crop from pigeons, magpies , caterpillars and wasps It’s time consuming but hopefully it will be worth it for some delicious fruit There was loads of blossom so do you think we will get lots of fruits? 𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐔 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄𝐍? I flere timer.

Have you ever bought a plant with roots like these? 😳 This is what happens when a plant sits in its container too long.🪴 The roots start growing around and around each other causing the plant to become root-bound. Once roots grow this way, they have a hard time growing outward into the soil as they should. Eventually, the plant can decline and even die. 🥀 If you have a plant that is root-bound, you can take a box cutter or garden knife and make a series of vertical cuts around the root ball, so that you are cutting through the circled roots. Your plant should now be able to grow into the surrounding soil.🌻

Save this post!! Ever wonder what to buy as seedlings vs what to transplant? We’ve compiled a list to help you make the decision.. the general rule is to direct sow hardy plants like carrots, legumes and radishes and to transplant more delicate plants like tomatoes and peppers that benefit from a little head start inside. Direct sow: - carrots - beets - radish - peas - green beans - cucumbers - lettuce - squash Transplant - tomatoes - peppers - onions (sets or transplants) - celery - broccoli - cauliflower - most herbs - kale - strawberries #gardenplanning #gardentips #backyardgarden #gardentipsandtricks #beginnergardening #zone7gardening #gardeninginthefraservalley #plantingseeds #sheinthegarden

•Ok.. listen up. I will have tons of wild flowers for the bees and wasps. They will bee happy 😉 •But there are some places (like my gazebo on my deck) that I’d prefer them to stay away from. So here’s a tip: •Take any brown paper bag, fill it with plastic bags, tie it up and hang it anywhere near a patio (or wherever you like). Bees and wasps will think it’s a hornet’s nest and stay far away. •No bees or wasps will die from this #minnesotagardentips #minnesota #zone4b #gardening #gardentipsandtricks #tipsandtricks #hacks #minnesotagarden #gardening101

Does the phrase 'north facing, shady border' fill you with horror? Do you...dare I say it...have one of those?! Or even a full on shady garden?! Well I say you lucky thing!! Shade does not mean a sparse desert, where no plants will grow and empty plant pots languish. Shade can actually be a really exciting opportunity! Believe it or not shade actually exists in nature so by looking at the natural world we can find the answer. Research for shade loving plants is key. Now while you aren't going to get a riot of colour, this is the perfect opportunity to explore and play with texture. From the fronds of ferns to the Jurassic like leaves of fatsia there is a huge range to choose from. White is also a fab colour to use here and silver toned leaves can help brighten up a space. So don't despair at your shady corner/garden think lush green and texture and build from there. 💾 Save for inspo ⭐ Follow for more garden design tips and tricks. I have bitter sweet emotions about these pepper seedlings I started indoors this winter.🫑 🌶️ ☺️ SWEET, because of how strong and healthy they look after nurturing them since December. 😩 BITTER, because I know how much longer it’ll take to enjoy a harvest from them late this summer since my overwintered peppers died while in my garage this winter. Peppers are considered perennial in some warmer hardiness zones, but for others like zone 7, which I’m in, we have to bring or peppers indoors during the winter since they’ll die in the freezing temperatures. This has been my second attempt at overwintering peppers and I can’t seem to get it right y’all. 😩 Please share tips in the comments if you have any for myself and others with the same struggle. 🫠 🙏🏾 #peppers #gardenfail #overwintering #overwinter #seedlings #gardening #gardentipsandtricks #gardentip #gardenlesson #beginnergardening #beginnergardener #beginnergarden #zone7 #gardeningcommunity #iggarden
