This was my Saturday (4/20/24). Checked a hike off my bucket list- will not be doing this one ever again. Yesterday was a busy, busy day in the garden…the weather was less than cooperative and I got rained on multiple times but I powered through and got both Papa’s and Nana’s gardens ready for the season. Papa’s garden surrounds the garden cottage in the far corner of my property - it’s the first thing I see in the morning when I open my drapes. Last fall I added the bed to the right of the ramp - I’m pleased to see the lungwort, Veronica, primrose, lupines, and Iris starts from a dear friend all survived and are doing well. Nana’s garden is at the entrance to my house, and it’s centerpiece is a stunning memorial hydrangea my amazing work team gave me last year after my mom passed. Everything looks healthy and happy with the exception of a silver plant I experimented with (cannot remember what it was, but it was called silver mound) - it struggled from the start so I wasn’t shocked. I hung the beautiful ‘forget me not’ chimes that a dear friend gave me and her garden makes me smile. It brings me peace and connects me to my mom and dad as I tend to these gardens that were planted with love in their memories. I feel their presence here far more than the cemetery. A memorial garden is a wonderful way for a gardener to remember those they’ve lost. Now it’s time to start the work week so naturally the weather is going to be beautiful while I’m stuck to my computer! So what did you do this bankholiday? We reroofed our shed/store... Yes, really taking the relaxing out of the holidays due to a week's worth of rain coming our way and not wanting to miss an opportunity. Not fully planned as we thought we would only do the framing today. Got to 4pm after a sit down and rechecked the weather to find it now not raining till gone 10pm and so back we went with gusto. We may be mildly broken, but we have a watertight roof so we can store furniture and materials outside and without being totally soaked. I went down a rabbit hole of yard work and gardening today. I am NOT a gardener. I am lazy. Pulling weeds annoys the daylights out of me. And yet, I have all these gorgeous plants on my property that need care. Thankfully most seem pretty self sufficient (in the 11 months that we’ve owned the house, I haven’t taken much time to even figure out what most of the stuff is, let alone how to take care of it!) Monday Motivation 💪🏻❤️- Just Do It!! Seriously, what’s the worst that can happen? You tried!!!!! We didn’t train for this race, we were kinda angry and to be honest a bit scared. Scared because of our lack of training we’d get injured or not be able to finish. But you know what… we showed up, we surrounded ourselves with the most amazing people and we just did it. Did I say few choice words doing it? Heck yah…and I apologized to all the people around me if they heard. Did I second guess myself when the first wall jump started the race? Heck yah 😅. I wondered if anyone could get plucked out of the race at the first obstacle 😂Did I have to do 75 extra burpees because I couldn’t complete a few obstacles? Heck yah 😅. But you know what? Miller and I showed up, we did it and I’m so very proud of us ❤️. We are actually talking about our next Spartan Race 😜. Welcome to Nana’s Garden! It took about a 4 weekends of hard work but I’m really happy with the results! I need to find the ‘right’ garden decor that speaks to my heart but for now this beautiful garden brings me some peace. Yesterday Grae and I celebrated one year together by attempting to hike Chocorua via the Carter Ledge trail. We made it up the hardest scrambles and then the ledge was a 60 degree scramble up a rock face and I couldn't find enough hand and foot holds to make it possible for us. So, we scrambled down the mountain again (scrambling is way easier going up) and got back to the car wayyyy too late, but it was an amazing example of why we are so good together. *Spoiler alert* - long winded, heart felt post about our tennis tournament this weekend… what can I say, playing a tennis tourney on a 100+ deg day weather is no joke. Katie my amazing partner and I played the semifinals against two fantastic players. They made us play out of our minds to keep up with them. I’ve never said this before but I feel I played my best match of tennis ever against these two who were hard hitting, tough at the net, smart strategic players. Thank god for Katie’s game of never give up, run everything down and setting me up at the net. We won the long match in a 3rd set super tie-break without getting heatstroke, as the other team who made it to the finals earlier in the day sat in the shade and watched our match. Fast forward and we had to play the finals 30 minutes later after just finishing this spectacular (in my mind) match. AND of course in the finals we went to a 3rd set tie break again!! But exhaustion was setting in my legs and my brain didn’t make all the right decisions and our opponents hung in there and played smarter tennis. We all had amazing points, people cheered all the great plays and it was an awesome match. We lost the 3rd set tie break 10-8. Sooo close! I’m super proud of my partner who I’ve never played with before and we had such fun! Our opponents were wonderful and gracious, fans were awesome and supportive. And in the end of this long post, my partner and I went home at 10, cooked dinner and ate it and watched Deadpool 2. And drank wine. All in all…. A great weekend!
