Day 2.5: I am about 66 hours into a ‘fast’. I use the quotes as I am consuming coffee and tea, and I have some additives that I do in my coffee like MCT oil and gelatin, and my matcha gets heavy cream…. So for almost 3 days now it’s just been coffee, tea and water. Trying to get the body’s metabolism to reset a bit. This is my KetoMojo meter. It is used to test blood glucose and ketones. I just started using it over the past few days. If you have followed my journey and know me at all, you know I love to dig into the data I started my new meal plan on Monday, which was High Protein ,pretty low on Carbs & Fat. When I am in a fat loss phase , I look at Ketone Levels & Blood Sugar ( I am not diabetic) because this data gives me good insight into fat loss progress. Blood Sugar 85 mg/dl - this is great!! Just my breakfast meal alone this morning had 56 grams of Carbs. This is an optimal Blood Sugar level Keytones 1.8 mmol/L - this tells me that my body has probably burned through most of my stored glycogen and is using Keytones for energy as well as fatty acids that are converted to glucose in the liver, so on some level I am burning fat for fuel. The lowest I have ever seen my glucose is 65 when I did a Data Driven Fasting protocol Overall what these numbers are telling me is that my threshold to get into Ketosis is somewhere between 75-90g Carbs per day and 1200-1600 calories per day. My daily Macro goals are set at 75g/ day, but I did go up to 90g a few days this week. Based on these numbers my guess is by Monday I quite possibly see 5lbs of weight loss (7 days) What this doesn't tell me is how long I have been in ketosis, but my 639 calorie breakfast with 56g carbs ( Oatmeal & Fruit) did not kick me out of ketosis. oatmeal is a great low glycemic source of carbs. The past few weeks have been quite eventful. Went home for spring break to be with family. Then I visited some friends and went to the Phillies game. Other than the delicious Italian sausage and French fries and that AMAZING raspberry cheesecake milkshake, I made relatively healthy choices and checked my blood glucose and ketones daily. Sadly, my weight loss has stalled and I spent the last week trying to recover. I regret NOTHING! :) I’m so glad I was able to enjoy my break without completely falling back into old habits. I have to remind myself that it’s all about moderation and I do not have to deprive myself from eating the foods I love. :) Today I’ve tracked my food and tested my levels twice. She’s back! Check out those fasting stats! Here’s a little life/weight loss update! In 2019 I lost 80lbs eating a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. During the pandemic, I started eating whatever I wanted and gained all of the weight back slowly at first, then my binge eating habits came back bringing my weight up to 330 again. I was devastated that I let myself fall back into the bad habits and rough relationship with food. After my yearly check-up in January I decided it was time to take care of myself again. Since then, I’ve been eating a ketogenic diet and utilizing IT. I use my #ketomojo glucose and ketone monitor to check my levels twice a day to get a better idea of how my diet is affecting me. My science 🧪 experiment 😂 I want to be prepared to break my fast in 2 weeks with the right foods. Just made fermented Cauliflower Dill (one spicy 🌶️, one regular) that will be done in 7-10 days as well as some pickled red onions that will go in the fridge tomorrow (fermenting process is different because I used sauerkraut brine in that recipe, so it is a quick fermentation process and only needs 24 hours). The goal is to re-feed the gut Microbiome that has healed appropriately. There is no point in doing an extended fast if you’re just gonna go back out and eat garbage once you have healed your body. My re-feeding process will take about 10 days if I make it the full 21 days… When I make it the full 21 days . Finishing day eight right now and I feel amazing . Walked 3 miles outside. Blood 🩸 glucose has held steady at 56g/mol all day and ketones have been between 4.7-5.0. This number has solidified that I’m doing something right! I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 30 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy. Took no medications as it wasn’t needed and was able to keep my fasting sugar below 105 for the rest of the pregnancy. Fast forward to November 2023 after getting my blood work done, I was diagnosed with prediabetes which brought me into a state that I couldn’t comprehend. My fasting sugars were in the prediabetic range and my A1C was 6.3. It was the holiday season and I didn’t change much. As soon as 2024 hit, I was ready to take back my health and my life again and made it a goal to reverse my diagnosis. Today, I’m finally under 100 for my fasting blood sugar! I look forward to my blood work that I’ll prob get done in April to see where my A1C is at but in the meantime, I’m going to keep working my butt off! I’m all about root cause. And for menopause - there are usually 2-3 big things that move the mark: 1. GUT/STOMACH ACID Without adequate stomach acid or with gut imbalances, we affect our immune system, our digestion abilities, our nourishment abilities, and our detox abilities. We NEED to ensure we have a balanced gut, and as robust of stomach acid as possible. A simple way to start implementing support for this is Apple Cider Vinegar x 1-2 tbsp before meals. This was the longest fast I’ve done to date. I started fasting again because I was feeling bloated and uncomfortable. This particular fast was supposed to be 20 hours. I was feeling good and decided to push further to see how I would feel. I never felt hungry and I could’ve pushed further, but decided that I would save that for after I’m done traveling next month. During the course of the fast my blood sugar and ketone numbers looked great, my resting heart rate while sleeping dropped about 10 bpm, and the bloating went away. 96-hour fast results. Actually not much to report! I was a bit salt depleted, even though I tried to stay on top of electrolytes and hydration. LDL didn't budge. Triglycerides and VLDL went up a lot (presumably from mobilizing fat stores). Insulin quite low, but I've had it lower. Igår bagte jeg boller til ungerne, da Otto havde en kammerat med hjem fra børnehaven. Jeg elsker nybagte boller med smør🙈😍 men tåler desværre ikke brød ret godt. Det påvirker simpelthen mit blodsukker alt for meget, og giver lidt ondt i maven. Men måtte alligevel lige smage en, da det var en ny opskrift. Den blev så til to🤦🏼‍♀️ det smagte rigtig godt😍 Men var det egentlig det værd? Altså i øjeblikket tænkte jeg: ja helt sikkert. Idag: nej🤦🏼‍♀️ Igår reagerede kroppen med er blodsukker som steg og derefter faldt lidt for meget, det gjorde mig træt og gav uro i kroppen, jeg blev ekstra sulten og hungrede bare efter flere hurtige kulhydrater. I nat har jeg bare sovet uroligt. Og idag har jeg vågnet med kulhydratstømmermænd. Uro, knaldende hovedpine, 1/2 kg væskeophobning, højere blodsukker og er stort set røget ud af ketose. Det værste er, at jeg ved de næste par dage får jeg lyst til at æde alt muligt med kulhydrater i. Hvilket er helt dumt, når nu kroppen bliver så dårlig af det. As stated in a previous video I am going to start testing my Ketone levels again since I’m back in weight loss mode. Very happy with these numbers, but they did come late in the day. My numbers earlier in the day where not optimal. Which goes right along with what I experienced when I first started Keto.
