Rainy day Monday here at the farmhouse and I couldn’t be happier. I’ll work on my space plan for the @barnhousechicksmarket PopUp coming up and listen to the sound of rain on our metal roof. Die meiste Zeit beobachten wir: den Kurs, die Segelstellung, das Wetter, den Wind, das Wasser, die anderen Schiffe (falls vorhanden), den Sonnenuntergang, Vögel oder andere Meeresbewohner (falls sie sich blicken lassen). Dazwischen wird die Segelstellung korrigiert, der Kurs angepasst, werden Manöver gefahren - je nach Wind, Wetter und Kurs mal mehr, mal weniger - Segel werden eingeholt, gerefft oder gewechselt, heimlich Regatta gefahren, es wird gegessen, geschlummert, gelesen, geredet, still und laut nachgedacht… der Tag geht häufig schnell rum. Manche Tage sind aufregend, manche anstrengend, andere ruhig und leise und wieder andere fliegen nur so dahin. Wirklich langweilig ist es selten. Meistens genießen wir die Ruhe. What a joy it is to make a house a home. It means something different to everyone, but to me one sure way to make a house start to feel like home is adding found antiques and vintage pieces. I used to own a vintage rental company in Louisiana (anyone here remember Mrs. Vintage??) and I had three full, huge storage units, plus a large showroom of vintage pieces big and small!! It was one of my mom's favorite things to do (the hunt for the deal I guess 😆). Plus, I had an aunt that would always tell me that I should wear what I wanted and liked. It didn't matter if it was a name brand. Unfortunately, it wasn't until about 8 years ago that I realized how incredibly blessed I was to have these women in my ear. I never realized that shopping secondhand had a stigma attached to it. I didn't know that people were made fun of and bullied because of it. It's really unfortunate that ethnic and class biases turned something so economically useful and environmentally sound into a stigmatized practice. But regardless, I'm going to keep thrifting. Mei 📅 De maand mei is nogal ‘strak gepland’. Elke week staan er twee activiteiten in de agenda. Dat is het maximum dus eigenlijk te veel voor een paar weken achter elkaar. Het zijn afspraken die al langer geleden zijn gepland of zijn verplaatst omdat ze eerder niet lukten. Deze maand start ik ook met m’n neurofeedbacktraining (—>swipe en meer info in link in bio) En ‘opeens’ is mei wel erg vol. Soms wint m’n enthousiasme het van m’n ratio. En vaak gaat dat goed, gelukkig. Maar de factor onzekerheid blijft altijd iets om rekening mee te houden en daar kan ik met zo’n strakke planning soms onrustig van worden. Ik wil niet (weer) afzeggen, want heb overal zo’n zin in! En natuurlijk is het leven niet plan- en maakbaar, maar tot op zekere hoogte zorgt een goede planning wel voor een basis van rust van waaruit ik mn activiteiten kan ondernemen (niet rennen, maar plannen 😉) Zo’n strakke planning zorgt voor ‘zaagtanden’ - rusten om te pieken en weer rusten voor de volgende piek - repeat). Dat zorgt bij mij (ondanks de leuke activiteiten) voor een afname van m’n geluksgevoel en een toename van spanning omdat er te weinig tijd overblijft voor lummelen. Rusten en lummelen zijn geen synoniemen. Rusten is werk, lummelen is ontspanning. Ik heb drie principes: - niet afzeggen als ik me in de ochtend van de afspraak slecht voel. Ik weet inmiddels dat de ochtend niet representatief is voor de rest van de dag. De dag begint pas na de middagrust 🙏🏼 - geen afspraken inplannen met een vakantiepil op. Dan overschat ik m’n mogelijkheden (en onderschat dus m’n beperkingen) - een onder-voorbehoud-afspraak is oké (leerde ik van @pillenenprosecco) One day at a time en leven in het Nu. Of iets morgen lukt is niet zeker, maar er is meer kans wanneer je er vandaag niet te veel mee bezig bent.
