LAT TRAINING The lats, one of the more difficult muscles to isolate and train. Here's how I've been targeting my lats lately: - seated in a flexed position to minimise erectors involvement - wrist tails to minimise grip and bicep involvement - using the free hand to feel the tension in the lat - "elbow to hip" cue - pulling on a slight diagonal to add some shoulder adduction - trying to add a pause Try some of these tips if you can't feel your lats when you're training your back.

Hip Belt Squat at home Thanks to Steve from @revivestronger for showing us how to set up a Hip Belt Squat at home. You'll need a barbell, a squat rack with arms and two clips. Put both clips on one side and use the dip belt to strap yourself in. The hip belt squat can be a great way to load the quads without loading other synergistic muscles like the erector spinae.

Lower Donkey calf raises 32*30,30,30 Squat 90*10,10,8,8 SL RDL 24*15,13,12 RB leg extension 30,30,30 (not a huge fan) Sisy squat 12,12,12 Here's some things that I've been playing around with during this building phase: 1) Loading full ROM at various rep ranges - thanks to @rpdrmike for consistently highlighting this 2) Stimulus-fatigue ratio - sure, you can squat heavy and just cook the CNS, or squat light and just make yourself tired, but trying to maximize stimulus and minimise fatigue has been interesting to prioritise 3) Slowing down and adding pauses to ramp up the stimulus 4) Barefoot training #freethetoes

I’ve wasted no time increasing my calories, and the weight on the bar. . Pretty sure I ate and drank a weeks worth of calories on the weekend, but today I am back on track aiming at roughly 2000 per day (30%P, 40%C, 30%F). Needless to say, I’m feeling pretty good today! . Over the next 5 weeks I’m going to see if I can build up to my old 5RMs on the big 3. Adding just one rep per week to my top set, followed by 3 backdown sets of 3. . Day 1 - nailed it! Confidence is back in spades. 120kg for an easy single. . 12 weeks later... we done! . 📏 17.5cm down ⚖️ 2.7kg down . Hit all of my training goals (still one deadlift session to go, but surprisingly this has become my most confident lift, so I’ve got no concerns about not getting it). . My last period was a no-show, so something is obviously amiss (no I’m not eating for two). . As far as a visual transformation goes, I’m stoked. I’m happy in my skin again, and become accustomed back to a lifestyle I used to love. End of challenge scan complete. . Disappointed. . Lost muscle. Gained fat. . The 1kg of weight loss is not a consolation. . I guess this is just more data, and I know these things aren’t absolutely accurate. But it’s definitely deflated me today. It doesn’t reflect the work I’ve put in to my training. It doesn’t reflect the gradual move into a calorie deficit. I’ll do my photos on Saturday, which I HAD been confident would show my hard work... but I had also been confident that this would too, so 🤷‍♀️. . Oh well. If nothing else, I’ve learned from this process that my body needs fuel. If I don’t give it enough, it will look for alternative sources, like my hard earned muscle. A powerlifter needs a powerlifters diet 😜. My body looks better than it did 12 weeks ago, and I’m lifting consistently again. Ultimately, in the end I achieved what I wanted out of the 12 weeks. . Apparently these arms still work 💪. . 12@40kg 10@50kg 8@60kg pausing reps 1 and 8 10@50kg 12@40kg . I’ve lost all my confidence in my lifting though. I don’t remember feeling this anxious before a set before! My heart races, can’t take a full deep breath to settle myself, clammy hands. As soon as I unrack the bar, I know I’ve got it, I just do a really good job at convincing myself of all the reasons I’ll fail before I try. . On two occasions in the past I’ve taken 60kg for AMRAP. I was lifting consistently, eating about 75% more calories, and feeling strong. I got 11 reps for those. 8 with pauses isn’t much less than 11 TNG, but working in a deficit, during 2020 was a convincing reason to fail. .
