As I always say, there is no one right way to eat. However, small things like portion size and type of food can make a big difference when you have a specific goal in mind like weight loss or muscle gain. For example, simply going for 2 tbsps of almond butter rather than 2 tbsps of Greek yogurt on a rice cake can add an extra 170 calories to your snack. A similar example would be going for cauliflower rice which is lower in calories than something like brown rice. There are so many simple adjustments like this that can really add up when it comes to getting the results you want with healthy eating. That’s why I wanted to share a few examples of how these simple changes can add up to big results. Mexican Shredded Beef Ingredients: 3.5-4 lb chuck roast, boneless ½ cup beef broth (additional ½ cup for stove-top) 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1 lime, juiced Dry Rub Spices: 2 tablespoons chili powder ½ tablespoon onion powder 1-2 teaspoons salt (adjust based on preference) 2 teaspoons cumin 2 teaspoons garlic powder 1 teaspoon ground black pepper ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for added heat) ½ teaspoon paprika Instruction: Mix all dry rub spices in a small bowl. In another bowl, whisk together beef broth and tomato paste. Place the chuck roast in the Crock Pot or Instant Pot. Apply half of the spice mix to the top of the roast, flip and repeat on the other side. Pour the beef broth and tomato paste mixture over the roast. For Crock Pot, cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4-6 hours. For Instant Pot, add an extra ½ cup of beef broth and cook on high pressure for 90 minutes with a natural release for 15 minutes. Once cooked, shred the beef using two forks and discard any excess fat. You can use high protein wraps too if you struggle to hit your protein Ingredients: 1/2 pack corn tortillas (or any tortilla/wraps) 1 tbs olive oil 1-2 tbs parmesan cheese 1-2 tsp paprika or smoked paprika Pinch of chili powder 1/4 tsp salt Method: 1. Cut the wraps into triangles and spray or brush with olive oil 2. Place into a zip lock bag with grated Parmesan and herbs, shake until well coated. 3. Place onto a baking tray and cook for 10-15 mins at 160C, flip halfway and watch so they don’t burn. 4. Allow to cool and enjoy! These calorie saving meat swap ideas by @thefitnesschef_ may provide those who want to lose fat with several easy opportunities to create the calorie deficit required.⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ One immediate observation with these meat sources is that most of the lower calorie alternatives are higher in protein. For example, 200g chicken drumstick gets 144 of its calories from protein and the remaining 316 from fat. Whereas the skinless chicken breast gets 192 of its calories from protein and the remaining 18 from fat. This Southwest Chicken Salad is the perfect quick meal for busy days! The power of switching your diet to more whole foods and less processed foods 🍎 🥒🥕🥑 🍳*Swipe to see 3 more examples*⁠ by @meowmeix ⁠ Here are some powerful examples of how not only switching to more whole foods will help your waist line but it will also help your overall health.⁠ ⁠ Don’t just take my word for it though. In this feb 2019 randomized controlled trial, ultra-processed diets caused excess calorie intake which in turn led to weight gain unlike the unprocessed food diet. (1)⁠ ⁠ Another feb 2019 study published in the journal of the American medical association linked an increase in consumption of ultraprocessed foods w with a higher risk of all-cause mortality. (About a 14% high risk of all-cause mortality for every 10% increase in processed foods) (2).⁠ ⁠ A 2014 study by Public Health Nutrition found that people who cook at home 6-7 nights a week compared to those who eat out often, save on average 150 calories per day - that’s 1,050 calories a week! Not to mention the hydrogenated oils, fillers & added sodium you avoid by cooking your own food. (3)⁠ ⁠ Now, it’s not about being perfect!
