The topic “preventive nutrition” has been close to my heart and so I readily accepted to do an online session for Aditya Birla employees organised by their Business HR for their international women’s day on this theme. It was a question and answer format and mostly hovered around the three main preventable lifestyle disorders namely hypertension, diabetes and lipid imbalance. From discussing the tests to be done to identify the risk we moved on to the everyday changes one can incorporate in food and lifestyle. There were some doubts about whether jaggery and honey are better alternatives for sugar ( all are converted to glucose in the body ultimately). There was confusion about the good fats, bad fats, different types of oils available in the market etc. There was an interesting question about the recent news about Zerodha’s Nitin Kamath surviving a stroke inspite of him famously being a fitness freak which lead us to the discussion on difference between being fit and being healthy and how one should understand the importance of sleep. There was a query on what entails a sustainable routine and lifestyle to prevent these disorders.
