Hoy 13 de Octubre cumple 9 años un trabajo muy aclamado y criticado. U2 con “Song Of Innocence” fue lanzado de forma física un 13 mientras que el 9 de septiembre se publicó de manera gratuita para todos los usuarios de Apple e ITunes Store. Suponía el decimotercer álbum de estudio y desde el 2009 y su “No Line On The Horizon” no publicaban material. Fue el mayor espacio de tiempo entre dos discos y estuvo plagado de problemas ya que no se sentían satisfechos con el resultado. Un disco muy personal donde rinde culto a bandas como Ramones o The Clash. El primer single “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)”, suena muy fresco con esa guitarra y bajo en primera línea. Ahora 9 años después revisitando el disco me encanta. mucho más que cuando fue lanzado y todas las críticas que les llovieron por el tema de Apple y por no ser un disco a la altura de U2. Canciones como “Every Breaking Wave”, una balada que se ha vuelto clásica en la banda. “California (There Is No End To Love)”, es una auténtica joya con esa introducción a los Beach Boys. “Iris (Hold Me Close)”, una de las canciones más personales de Bono hablando de su madre fallecida en el funeral de su abuelo. “Volcano”, donde el bajo de Adam Clayton destaca en un tema pegadizo. “Raised By Wolves”, mi favorita del disco con esos cambios de ritmo. Years later Irene confesses that she knew who he was at the time, something which fascinates him – she must be a remarkable woman to have rumbled one of his famous disguises. Seven years later Irene is being pursued by the man who murdered her husband in London. She saw him clearly, so she has escaped to Milan, where she had previously performed at La Scala for many years. But she is not safe. It is here that she meets Holmes again, who swears to protect her, so they pretend to be husband and wife and hide out with Sherlock’s friends on their farm. They initially detest each other and argue constantly, but heir hatred soon turns into admiration and finally, love. Song For Someone is an entertaining romp through the imagined world of our favourite detective, seen through the eyes of Irene Adler, as well as through Sherlock himself. I can see that the author has done a huge amount of research to stay faithful to the spirit of the characters, while allowing Sherlock to fall in love and become more human and empathic (well up to a point anyway). I hope we see this on TV very soon – it would make a great series. Book Tour Book Review Thank you @zooloosbooktours for having me on this tour. I recently read Song For Someone by KD Sherrinford. Based on the characters Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler, it’s like a retelling of the classic Holmes books. Sherlock and Irene are married with their own children, however they have lived their lives under the guise of being The Saporis. When Irene dies she tells her daughter Charlotte to read her diaries. Her dad Luca also tells her to read his diaries, where he confesses to being Sherlock Holmes. Told in flashbacks to when Sherlock and Irene meet each other and from the perspective of Charlotte in uncovering these family secrets. I really enjoyed this book, I couldn’t put it down and loved the flow of the storytelling. I was excited to read a story that seemingly focused on a what if of Sherlock and Irene Adler and I was more than happy that this does not disappoint. Song for Someone centres around a seemingly normal if not well to do family. Charlotte Sapori has lead a wonderful life, safely tucked in the bosom of her family. Her mother is Irene Adler, a renowned opera singer, while her father, Lucca Sapori, does important government work that seeks him frequently away from theme. Charlotte also has an older brother Nicco whom she is close to. But one day her mother receives an unexpected diagnosis which shakes the family to its core. Now knowing herself to be dying, Irene confesses to Charlotte that her family is not all they seem, informing her daughter to read her diary. Her father informs Charlotte to read his diary as well and reveals that his real name is not Lucca Sapori but he is the world-famous Sherlock Holmes. With both diaries in her hands Charlottle plunges into the hidden world of Irene Adler and Sherlock Holmes as she uncovers what brought them together and how despite all the odds against them they managed to stay together for thirty years. Despite the premises the main thing that hooked me was the writing. It is wonderfully engaging, period-appropriate and so easy to get engrossed in. The imagery is vivid and brings to life the Victorian age but also brings the characters to life with such warmth and realism. While Adler only appeared once, I believe, in Doyle’s works, we see an Irene Adler in full here, one that keeps the elements given her to originally but are expanded upon so she comes into her own. It is much the same with Sherlock who is brough richly to life, keeping the parts we know and love but expanding and becoming some much more as well.
