Parents with picky eaters - have you tried offering a “tasting plate” alongside your child’s main meal?⁠ ⁠ This strategy works great at home, but I especially love using it at restaurants.⁠ ⁠ If you have a kid who routinely wants the buttered pasta or chicken nuggets when you’re out to eat, get them the pasta or something else they would like and then offer it along with a “tasting plate,” or a small plate that includes a little bite of each of the different foods from everybody else’s dishes. Don’t pressure them to eat - just put it next to their plate and then enjoy your meal.⁠ ⁠ You might be wondering what on earth the value is in this...⁠ ⁠ 👉First, it’s convenient for YOU, because you’re providing many different exposures to new foods without having to take the time and energy to prepare/cook them. (And it can sometimes take many repeated exposures before a child will accept a new food, so more is better)⁠ ⁠ 👉It also allows you to serve several new foods along with a known favorite, which is another way to help make exposures less stressful & more successful. Guten Morgen ihr Lieben, heute wieder ein kleiner Sammelpost der Brotdosen. Jeden Tag bunt, jeden Tag ein wenig anders, aber immer möglichst gesund aber immer ( so das Feedback) lecker.😁 Das Rezept für die kleinen Brötchen poste ich gleich extra. Die sind super schnell gemacht und brauchen nur 15 min im Ofen.😊 Was auch immer mal eine kleine nette Abwechslung ist, ist so ein Jogurt. Das packe ich eher selten rein, aber ab und zu schon. Es passt immer nicht gut in die Dose und dann gebe ich eine extra Lunchtasche mit, damit es im Ranzen nicht kaputt geht ( vermutlich würde es nie passieren, aber ich gehe auf Nummer sicher).😅 Die ist im Sommer auch immer toll, weil sie kühl hält. Immer mit dabei sind von @buahfruits gefriergetrocknete Früchte, die essen wir alle gerne ( Code Annika10 spart ein wenig/ Werbung). Und wie ihr seht, es gab diese Woche auf dem Markt schon die ersten Knackerbsen. Die liebt das Mäusekind. Unsere im Garten sind gerade erst aus den Beeten geschlüpft, die brauchen noch. Aber sie erinnern mich auch immer an meine Kindheit. Ich fand die schon großartig. 🥰 Habt einen tollen Freitag ihr Lieben.

Blitz Bollongnese wenn es mal schnell gehen muss. (2 Knobi und 1 rote Zwiebel in Würfel. It's been a whilst since I posted a food pic. I LOVE being in the kitchen and cooking/creating/nourishing my family. 🫶🏾 However; the last few months, with work, studies and the whirlwind that we call life, it has been hard to enjoy that. Tonight's meal was *meant to be* Beef and Potato stew with rice and veggies. However I put the rice in and left it to head out for 20 minutes. Not adding more water/broth.🤦🏽‍♀️ So now we have a delicious stew risotto. #hybrid #food. And for dessert the kids made some packet brownie with added blueberries, walnuts and some Biscoffe spread. First time I have ever tried this and it is the bomb!! Brownie served with coconut yoghurt. 😉 Love home-cooked meals that is all about the balance of flavour, conventience, nutrition and delicious-ness.🤤 Because for me, and my family. 📍Here me out… I know it might feel weird to put a favorite on the plate every meal, but it can prevent alot of stress at mealtimes for a few reasons: 1. Have you ever said “I will just have one bite, im not that hungry” and find yourself eating the whole thing? Our bodies often tell us to eat more once we’ve started eating a favorite so this can be used to help encourage our kids eat more, without pressure. 2. With a comforting food they are excited about eating at the table, this increases the likelihood that your child will sit and start eating. They may even sit at the meal longer! 3. A positive environment is built on trust and predictable and is the first step at establishing a positive relationship with food in the long run. Having a preferred food on the plate is a simple, effective way at helping establish this ❤️ Now if you’re thinking… ”but what if they only eat their favorite?” A “favorite” can be a lot of different foods! If your little one is only eating their favorites every meal there are a couple of things to consider… -Is it possible your child isn’t that hungry this meal? -Are the other foods on the plate being offered too overwhelming or ‘hard’ for them? -Are you offering a variety of favorites throughout the day? -Are starter portions small? Tuscan shrimp over roasted sweet potato #tuscanshrimp #sweetpotato #nums Shrimp Jumbo shrimp Salt and pepper Garlic powder Flour Butter White wine (or chicken broth) Dijon mustard Heavy cream Frozen spinach (or fresh baby spinach) Sun dried tomatoes in oil Dried Basil Heat 1 Tablespoon each butter and oil from the tomatoes in a pan. Season shrimp with salt, pepper and garlic powder then sprinkle with flour and toss to coat. Cook shrimp in pan for a couple minutes on each side and remove to a plate. Deglaze the pan with the wine/chicken broth and stir in the Dijon. Add 1 cup of cream, about 1/2 cup of spinach (about 2 cups if using fresh), and about 1/4 cup of chopped tomatoes and stir. Add shrimp back to pan and stir and cook for about 5 minutes. Serve over potatoes or pasta and top with a little fresh shredded Parmesan Potatoes Sweet potatoes, peeled and diced Avocado oil Salt, pepper and smoked paprika Preheat oven to 375. Place potatoes in a single layer on a sheet pan and drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with seasonings and toss to coat. Roast for about 30 minutes or until tender and starting to brown, stirring after 20 minutes.

I asked my son what he wanted for dinner last night, he said “spinach, mushrooms and cheese and little bit of salt”. Strange order but I went with it. My husband has been traveling for work the past 3 weeks and I am beyond exhausted, I am truly amazed everyday by single parents, it’s no joke. When my husband is traveling, I never feed my kids meat. I try a variety of plant based meals. Sometimes I give JT salmon because he asks for it, but I let my husband do the meat cooking. . When my son was a baby we discovered he had a ton of food allergies, he was even allergic to oats, it was so hard to feed him. But, with some diligent work and TCM, he has overcome a few of those allergies, including dairy, egg, oat and sesame. I still mainly give him plant based cheese though, because of the inflammatory properties of dairy. He’s had a recent eczema flare because of the pollen, so I’m trying to reduce as much inflammation as possible. However, I did find these gluten free ravioli with ricotta cheese in them. I only offered him a few, he loved them. Is your child with ADHD or other behavioural issues constantly looking for snacks? Crackers, chips, pretzels, popcorn - the list goes on. ⁠ ⁠ You may think it's the 🧈fat or 🍭sugar from the snacks or their accompaniments they are craving but it can actually be the salt.⁠ ⁠ The body could be crying out for salt for a number of reasons.⁠ 1️⃣ Salt regulates our fluid and mineral balance across membranes including our cell membranes so they may actually be dehydrated. And they may actually be craving potassium which they won't get much of in those snacks.⁠ 2️⃣ It may be an indication they have been under significant stress recently. The stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol can impact the control of sodium in the body via how much is excreted via the kidneys and urine. ⁠ 3️⃣ Their body may be looking for the chloride portion of salt (ie sodium chloride). Trick or Treat? Finnish goodies and not-so-goodies from our recent trip. We stocked up on lots of Moomin snack loveliness; sweeties, biscuits, lollies, and these great little fruit bars which the kids loved. Not wanting Pete to feel left out, I brought him back a couple of delicacies of reindeer jerky and salmiaki liquer (if you've never tried it, Salmiaki is a Finnish salty liquorice sweet which is certainly an acquired taste 🤢). Finally, a huge stack of Bear pate cans we saw at the airport. Guten Morgen, heute gibt es wieder eine neue Brotdoseninspiration für euch.😊 Die hellen Sterne sind Mairüben. Schmecken wie Kohlrabi, sind nur ein wenig milder im Geschmack ( finden wir jedenfalls), dazu Gemüsesticks und Zaziki ( im blauen Pott).😊 Obst, Brot mit Knobikäse ( wir lieben Knoblauch, ihr auch?), Nüsse, Karottenkügelchen, ein kleines Schoki zum Nachtisch und von @buahfruits Erdbeeren ( Mit dem Code Annika10 spart ihr ein wenig, Werbung wegen Nennung. Snacken wir alle gerne).  Die Brotdose verlinke ich euch gleich in der Story, habe ich Montag ganz vergessen, sorry dafür. Die Woche war irgendwie so voll. Heute muss ich zwei Torten backen, eine für meinen Mann ( Karamell) und eine für Mexx ( Hack mit Kartoffel und Hüttenkäse), denn beide haben morgen Geburtstag. Ich darf die Torten nur nicht verwechseln.😁 Ja, falls jetzt Sprüche kommen - ja, mein Hund bekommt auch eine Hundegerechte Torte und freut sich mega darüber ( ist essen, klar freut er sich). Red Thai Curry Night!! My 4 year olds favourite supper. It’s requested often and he always has seconds and thirds. Want to make the most of each mouthful of food your plant based kids eat?⁠ ⁠ On a plant based diet it can be harder to meet your kids energy needs, particularly if you follow a more whole foods approach.⁠ ⁠ This is why prioritising plant based foods that are generally higher in energy than others can help make the most of each bite. Naturally food high in fat will provide more kilojoules (calories) per gram. To be specific fat provides 37.7kJ per gram compared to carbs and protein which provide 16.7kJ per gram. So including a high fat plant based food with each meal and snack can make a big difference.⁠ ⁠ Do you have a kid who is a bit of a fussy eater?
