🖐️ The return of Fast Friday 5K ☀️A beautiful sunny and calm morning, but unfortunately I never got to enjoy much of it, apart from my warm up (which I try to drag out as long as possible before a 5K). Instead I was huffing and puffing my way along the seafront, disliking every second. Hate these fast 5k’s with a passion - they are hard. Running at full speed is tough. The lungs, the legs, the mind. ☀️Almost identical time to Sundays 5k, but the splits were different. I did manage a decent first km - fastest in a while, but then levelled off. Happy with my effort now I’ve finished 🤪 🔜Back in the gym tomorrow, where I have to wear my running shoes. Absolutely nothing good can come of that. 🔟It’s taken me 10 weeks of “Terror on the Treadmill Intervals” to get through the entire set at full speed and distance! That’s a long time, but I have short little legs and definitely had a lower level of fitness when I started. (Thanks to holidays, jet lag and an over indulgent off season 🍰) 🎉Rest day yesterday which I’m sure helped, although my calf muscles are quite DOM ridden from Monday’s training. I felt strong today and as I went into the last 2 intervals I told myself it was now or never. If you are feeling strong and can’t get them done, then will it ever happen! There is a huge difference in my breathing and lungs during the intervals compared to the first few weeks, which I’m very pleased with. 🎉Really chuffed with myself but it also means there’s no going back and I will need to keep the momentum going. 👊🏻Three tough workout days since my Friday rest day - each one very different: ☠️Saturday was a leg ’n lung buster and quite the mental challenge as well. Went into the last set with these words ringing in my ears “if you want a PB you have to do your best, better than you’ve done before”. No idea where I found the strength but I smashed that last set and promptly slumped to the ground in a puffing, sweaty heap. 🏃‍♀️Sunday Runday which is my Fast 5k day at the moment. I know I have to give it everything, and I pretty much hate every minute of the run. Ended up with a Run South best time, and the first 2024 entry into my all time Top 10 times for the 5km. I’m chipping away at it. The reward was a fun and very refreshing bike ride with some of the Run South team. The cooling breeze was welcome. Finished things off with a coffee before cycling back home. 🏋️Back in the gym today for a big strength session on the legs. The lungs got a welcome break, but the legs had to work hard. 🔜Tomorrow is a most unexpected (but very welcome) rest day. After proclaiming I had sort of figured out a workout pattern and didn’t expect a rest day until next week - wrong again. ☠️Wednesday means just one thing - back on the treadmill of terror for intervals. Still not a fan, but I have seen improvement over the many weeks I’ve been doing them although I’m still 150m short of completing the full distance. Doesn’t sound like much but I’ve got short little legs and those faster speeds are a real challenge. ☠️The lungs are definitely coping a lot better - I remember the first time I did this program being slumped over the treadmill even at the medium speeds. Garmin has put today’s workout in the `”sprint” category which is a first for me. 🔜Back in the gym tomorrow and if Friday isn’t a rest day then I’ll be sending out a search party. My rest days used to be fairly predictable. You can’t turn back the years but you can turn back the time . I was regularly completing my runs with and average 11.15 per mile but this morning 💥 10.49 per mile and a nice 4miler in the bag. How’s come ? I’ve been doing one run a week with my fitter, faster running buddy and this is the progressive result of 5 months training . I’m super proud as I did yesterday’s run solo 🫶. ⏰90 Minutes, ❤️Zone 4 ☀️A beautiful morning for a run - lovely and calm with just a little breeze here and there. Felt like the warmest run in a while - could have gotten away with a vest top or a light weight t-shirt for sure. At one point I had my sleeves tucked up into my bra straps to cool down🤪 ❤️Fairly normal effort and distance for this run - not a lot to say really. Although it didn’t feel like the easiest run I’ve ever done. Took a while to get into any rhythm, but the calm conditions meant I was able to keep a fairly steady pace for most of the run. 🔟km at Zone 5 effort, or thereabouts. ❤️Not a fan of these Zone 5 efforts. They’re hard work - all legs and lungs and not much fun. ❤️Took off at a decent pace which I couldn’t sustain and leveled off. Then slowed again with the headwinds on the return, but I tried to give it some oomph into the breeze for that last km. ❤️Just made it into Zone 5 for most of the run. ☠️Back on the Treadmill of Terror for intervals.   ☠️Today didn’t seem quite so frantic as it has been.   Still very hard and sweaty work but I made it further than I have previously. Today was the @maximum_fitnesspt endorsed method after talking about it earlier in the week to find out how best to run them.  I definitely noticed an improvement today, and that’s after a 21km run yesterday.  I fully completed one extra interval and started the last two confidently, before quickly running out of steam.  Covered 6.7km including the warm up and cool down.   🤡Downside was having to go to the office afterwards – even after showering at the gym the sweat continued.  Trying to get changed quickly was like trying to get into a straightjacket. ⏰ 2 hours and 30 minutes ❤️Zone 3 running in the sunshine 👌 ☀️ Out the door by 5:30am, which I wasn’t particularly happy about when the alarm went off at 04:45, but totally worth it when the majority of the run is in the sunshine (and it’s a Zone 3 run - maybe I wouldn’t be saying the same thing for a Zone 5 run!). Beautiful conditions although there was a breeze here and there, and it’s that time of the year where you are blinded by the sun and can’t really see who is running towards you. I just say hello to everyone😂 ☀️Covered almost 22km which is fairly decent for Zone 3. Always hard to know the distance on a zone run because conditions can really make a difference, but I thought somewhere between 21 and 22km so that’s pretty decent. Time on feet wise, today’s 2.5 hours was the longest time running since the virtual NY marathon back at the end of October last year. Training is getting definitely picking up. After being under the weather part of last week,I couldn't wait to lift this morning. But after a stressful day, I certainly would have been much happier to throw on my jammies and plop in front of the TV. Nope...I got on my MYX bike and rode for 45 minutes. I need the cardio to keep my lungs and heart healthy. But what I really needed was to lower my cortisol levels, to reduce the stress and improve my mood. Stress is a silent disruptor on our mental and physical health. I would have rather been outside but the weather wasn't cooperating. ⏰ 90 minutes ❤️Zone 4 this morning. 🏃‍♀️Pretty decent conditions with light winds from the East. Slight headwind on the way out and none on the way back🎉. The lighter winds definitely help with the HR runs. 🏃‍♀️Took a few km’s to get into it, but then got into a good rhythm and zoned out. Something you can’t really do with horrible headwinds - so definitely helped by the conditions today. Longest distance I have run during a 90min Zone 4 run, so very pleased with that. Legs felt good during the run, considering yesterday’s workout. But once I stopped, the calf and quad muscles no longer wanted to work 😬 💛Out in the Vaporfly Volt’s, with matching shorts (of course I have shorts to match). My absolute favourite colour trainers ever! 🔜I have the weekend off training! 2️⃣ 2 Hour Zone 3 run this morning in lovely and calm conditions.  Litlte bit of drizzle at one point, but generally a great morning for a run. Followed by a manic turnaround to shower and be in the office at 08:31 🤣   ⚖️Zone 3 is less frustrating than zone 2, but an easier effort than zone 4 – so it was an easy-ish run for a decent amount of time.   🤡Again I was influenced by the temperature being 5C and wore long sleeves.  Again I wish I didn’t as it warms up. unlike the middle of winter where it stays cold. I definitely need to ditch the long sleeves, whatever the temperature.   🔜Back in the gym for Treadmill of Terror intervals tomorrow.  Another attempt to improve a little bit on the time I can hold out at the faster speeds.  The fear of being flung off the end of the treadmill is real.  The sweat is real, the huffing and puffing whilst slumped over the treadmill between sets is real. Not a fan of this session. 🖐️Sunday 5k with the @runsouthsea crew👌 I missed the memo about running extra distance and turned at the usual place. So everyone else ran almost 6km but just the 5 for me and my DOMS ridden legs. (I was behind the front group and running on my own at this point - thought they made a mistake so didn’t follow them - I stuck to the damn plan! 🤣) 🖐️Another run in the 25 min zone so am happy with that - 3 weeks in a row. 🏃‍♀️Threshold Tuesday (according to my Garmin). 90 Minutes, Zone 4 in more stable weather conditions than yesterday, although it was still breezy. 🏃‍♀️Covered 15.4km during the 90 minutes which I was pleased with. As usual it was slower in the second half, but I had to battle the headwinds a bit. But a good, solid run. 🎽Pompey Blue (or shades of blue) was today’s choice as it’s a big day in town 💙. 👊🏻Rest of the week wrap up. 🥵Wednesday terror on the treadmill continues. 👊🏻Thursday PT, with a strong strength session that I quite enjoyed. 😴Friday rest day, which I also quite enjoyed. A nice 45 minute stroll at low tide to get the day started. 🥵Saturday PT which was all legs, lungs and sweat. More about endurance and pushing through to the end. 🖐️5K with Run South. I’ve reached the conclusion that Sunday is my new Friday Fast Five day, as I’ve been given instructions to try to keep up with the faster group. They are a lot faster than me so I aim to keep them in sight for as long as possible. The last 2 weeks I’ve got my 5k times back down into the 25 minute bracket which I’m really pleased about. Hard, huffy & puffy work, but very satisfying to see some improvement. 🇩🇪Berlin Marathon entry submitted - entry obtained via Sports Tours International and we get a code to officially register the spot in our name. 🌀A blustery 90 minutes trying to run in zone 2. 🌀First time I’ve done a zone 2 in these conditions and whilst it was a little challenging to stay within the zone at times, it was also very enjoyable. No worries about pace (my ego has learned to live with zone 2 pacing) or trying to slog it back at a harder effort into the headwinds. Just a gentle little jog whilst trying to stay upright. 🌀I managed 80 of the 90 minutes in Zone 2 which is a pretty good attempt, given the conditions. 🏃‍♀️Run South 5km this morning and with no long run this weekend I had instructions to try stay closer to the front runners 🤪. Thankfully the seafront portion was with the wind, but running south to get there was a nice little challenge, and although the return was along roads, there was still an annoying headwind. 🏃‍♀️Went out fast, and the tailwinds were a bit of a confidence boost. Managed 3 good km’s then faded a little on the last two into the wind. But it’s the fastest 5k I’ve done with Run South and the first time I’ve seen a 25 minute run for a few months. It wasn’t easy and I had to really focus on my breathing, but felt it was a little more controlled than it has been for the past couple of months. Hoping this means I’m starting to see some little improvements. And I managed 15 minutes in Zone 5, which is way more than I’ve managed on my Zone 5 runs 🤣 🏅A huge day on the events calendar today. Well done to everyone who ran - I’ve seen some incredible results posted 👊🏼. I’ve done the Southampton Half for the last 3 years but didn’t fancy it this year. 🌀1 hour wild and windswept Friday run✅ 🌀 Another run with the goal of getting time in zone 5. Managed a few minutes in zone 5 today after being belted around by the headwinds. Last time it was zero minutes so a little better 🤣 🌀Decent first 5k running with the winds but after turning around it was a swirling, sideways, all over the place slog. 📈4th week doing the Treadmill of Terror interval workout. Still not 100% finishing the last 3 speeds for the full amount of time, but I felt stronger and a little more in control today. It’s always a huge relief to finish that last sprint (even if it’s not full distance) and I’m usually slumped over the arms of the treadmill desperately gasping for air 🤣 🥵The 1km cool down seems like a slog, even though it’s really slow in comparison. 🔜Back in the gym tomorrow and then 🤷‍♀️. Can’t even begin to guess what Friday’s plan is. 🐣Flat Lay: Spring Saturday Edition 🐣A rare Saturday long run for me tomorrow, due to a slight change in training schedule over the Easter break. Quite pleased to be honest: this mornings weather was rather damp and dreary and tomorrow is looking calm and dry - superb conditions if the forecast is right. Will be heading out in short sleeves (and no arm warmers) for the first time this year - always a milestone. 🐣Will also be trying out my new Salomon running vest for the first time. I’m sure I will find things that annoy me, which I will change on the next run - this is the whole point. By the time I’m onto the super long runs, the use of the vest and where everything is becomes second nature. 🐣Still using Tailwind for fuel - I just love the simplicity of an all in one fuel. Planning my run to finish at a coffee shop for that all important post run beverage. I had toyed with the idea of running a Pompey Loop but the weather looks so good that it would be silly to waste it running inland. 😴Found: one rest day. Finally, tomorrow is a scheduled rest day for me. A Good Friday indeed. 9️⃣ After 9 consecutive workout days (some more intense than others) I get my well earned rest day. Probably the longest workout streak without a rest day I can remember. We’re in that stamina, strength and resilience building stage of training. Menopausal! Not sure? There are so many symptoms and they vary from woman to woman and some women sail through while others have a terrible time! It's hard to determine also if what you are suffering from is menopause as a lot of symptoms could be related to something else going on. I would see a GP who has menopause knowledge or a menopause specialist if your GP is not helpful and supportive. We spend too much time in menopause to be suffering when a lot of the time we don't have to! There is a lot of help out there if you look in the right places! 😁Expectation:  rest day 🤬Reality:  One hour Zone 5 run 🧀Talk about chalk and cheese.   🤪The thought of trying to hit Zone 5 for an hour is overwhelming and I can’t sprint for anywhere near an hour so this was never going to be easy.  The brief was to get as much time as possible in zone 5.  The reality was zero minutes in zone 5 🤣 🥵I genuinely thought I’d get some time during the second half and although my breathing sounded as if I was running in zone 5, the damn HR just wouldn’t tick over.  I was right on the edge of zone 4 for a lot of the run (just 3-5 bpm off) but just didn’t have it in me to get there.   🎯But had it not been for the goal, I probably would have run slower and I briefly took a look at my 10km time and it was in the 55’s (don’t have exact time) so I’m quite pleased with that.  I keep reminding myself that I’m at the start of my training block and the speed and endurance will come back.  Just have to keep on grafting and chipping away at it.   🔜Rest day tomorrow? 🏃2 Hours Zone 4 Long Run ✅ 🤪It didn’t exactly feel easy, but it’s the longest run for 5 weeks so I’m fairly happy. Of course my jet lag is now over and the alarm had to blast me awake at 5am which I wasn’t too happy about. Then I could start to feel developing DOMS from yesterday’s training - not a great start. 🤪Arm warmers are a winner - lasted about 2km before it got too warm and I took them off and stashed them away in a pocket. Absolutely brilliant this time of the year when the weather is so changeable. 10c feels a lot warmer coming out of winter than it does at the end of summer. There was a cheeky little headwind on the second half, but my pace was fairly even for that section so not too bad. The usual reduced pace to stay within zone in the second half 🤪Now that I’ve finished my run, the DOMS are really kicking in. Everywhere. And the training week isn’t over. 🏃‍♀️Flay Lay: Spring Running Edition 🏃‍♀️First long run for just over 5 weeks tomorrow and, as I’ve now moved into Ultra training mode (early stages), it’s time for the return of regular flat lays. At the moment my long runs are short enough to do before work on a Friday. That will change. 🏃‍♀️It’s the time of year when choice of gear is tricky. Long sleeves, short sleeves, which trainers to wear. Will I need more hydration if it’s a few degrees warmer, should I wear the hydration vest. In the end I’ve opted for t-shirt and my new discovery of arm warmers. They worked really well in the Duathlon last weekend. Hydration vest with 2 bottles of water (one fuel one spare) - better to carry too much water than not enough. Vaporfly’s because it’s a Zone 4 run. Need to keep a close eye on weather conditions in spring - whilst tomorrow is looking mild, the weekend is colder again. 🥵Fresh faced pre-workout and the sweaty, red faced reality of post treadmill intervals. It isn’t pretty but it’s very satisfying once done 👊🏻. 🥵Last week saw the return of intervals and as usual I was thrown straight in the deep end with a big session. I couldn’t quite hit the speeds as planned but I improvised- and prioritized time over speed. Which turned out to be the wrong thing to do. 🥵Same interval plan today, and armed with the motto of “speed rules” I knew I had to hit the speeds on all the intervals. Improved on last week by completing more full sets, but the last 3 speedy intervals I had to break up the distance and have a little break or risk being flung off the back of the treadmill. 🥵Pleased with my effort today, even though I know I have more to give and my legs can go faster. I personally steered clear of macros for most of my journey. I hate tracking, they seemed so complicated and restrictive. And they probably are for some people, and if you're triggered by macros, you probably should just move past this post. For me they've provided insight, freedom and released me from saying no to all the treats. In the past 2 weeks, we've celebrated birthdays, anniversary and a baby. I've said no to very little. I know what triggers inflammation and I choose treats that don't make me feel like 💩. I also choose more whole foods, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins that fuel my body for life! At 56 I'm not as concerned with how I look (but let's ve honest...we all care a little bit). But I want to feel good and hang with my kids, play with my grandkids, dance and enjoy whatever time I'm blessed with. Macros are the answer for me. Could they be the answer for you too? 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️🚴‍♀️ Duathlon ✅ 🚴‍♀️ My second duathlon and it confirmed what I learnt the first time - the last 5k run is the killer. A total assault on the legs and lungs and also a huge mental challenge to keep the legs ticking over. I’m chuffed with a sub 2 hour: overall time of 1:59:43 - was honestly expecting around 2:05 - 2:10. I did set myself a little goal to finish the 24km bike in around an hour and I just got there with 1 second to spare officially. (My Garmin had it slightly faster) 🏃‍♀️The strong bike leg probably wasn’t great for my legs on that last 5km - my god it’s a slog to get going off the bike and to maintain any sort of pace. It feels as though you are running through treacle. I tried to keep a steady plod going for that last 5km. 🚴‍♀️Transition was also a bit of a mess, especially moving into the bike leg. Things were wet, and there’s a lot of gear needed for the bike. I totally screwed up my Apple Watch multi-sport activity - I should have left it on auto detection. Lesson learned, but I also had my Garmin which I’m more used to. Wearing bike shorts was a definite plus. For the transition off the bike I forgot to take off the cycling shorts and took off running in them. Never ran in them before but I didn’t want to stop and take them off, so I kept going. Arm sleeves were a great choice - definitely helped with the temperature control. 🏃‍♀️Although it looked grim, the weather wasn’t too bad in the end. The winds were tolerable on the bike - definitely had worse. Lots of puddles to negotiate as well. 🔜Back in the gym tomorrow. 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️🚴‍♀️ Flay Lay: Duathlon Edition 🚴‍♀️My first event flat lay of the year. This will be my second duathlon - the first was 2 years ago and was 5-15-5km Tomorrow is 5-24-5km so a bit of a jump in effort for me. 🏃‍♀️Because of holidays, injury and the cold, dark and rainy winter I haven’t been out on the bike at all this year and am not as prepared as I would have liked. But I’m ready to give it a go and hope I can conserve enough energy to get through that final 5km, which from memory, is the worst part of the entire event. Getting the pace of the first 5km is important - too fast and it will destroy you in the final 5k. 🚴‍♀️Time wise it will be the equivalent of a half marathon for me (or thereabouts) so significant effort is required. My fuelling strategy is ready (making sure I drink the Tailwind whilst riding) as well as additional clothing options. I don’t have a tri-suit and 24km without bike shorts would not be fun so I’ve practiced putting bike shorts over the top of running shorts - that will be my approach. I don’t do clip-in bike shoes (too scared) so will be using my Invincible trainers for all 3 stages. 🏃‍♀️Weather is not looking fun - rainy and windy. Annoyingly today would have been perfect weather. I’m excited to get out there and give it a go, even though I vividly remember the hurt of the last 5km 2 years ago. 😴Rest day walk in the rain, wind, but also daylight. Monday DOMS are almost gone - just waiting to see if any kick in from yesterdays training 😳 🥵It’s been a good training week so far. Tough getting back into it but I’m pleased to get through without any abdominal issues. I don’t wish abdominal tendinitis on anyone. I’ve gone from not being able to lift my shoulders off the ground (when attempting a sit up) to being able to do sit ups without issue, along with other ab work. 🚴🏻Duathlon weekend is here. I’m going to give it all I have - the last time I was out on my bike was 30th September 😳. I’ve done some indoor cycling but it’s no match for riding along the seafront! I still remember being absolutely dead getting off the bike for the last 5k run when I did this 2 years ago - and slumping over the fence after crossing the finish line. Headwinds were just awful so hoping for a calmer day on Sunday. 🥵I was warned by @maximum_fitnesspt that my training program would include more intervals this time around and what a brutal introduction today was. 1km warm up, 5km of interval work (actual running) and 1km cool down. 🥵When I saw the plan I knew it was ambitious for my current fitness level - long intervals and increasing speeds. I gave it my best shot but couldn’t hit the faster speeds for the required time. But I’m not upset with myself - it was an extremely tough workout and I completed it time wise. My rest time was spent slumped over the treadmill trying to catch my breath. It’s also a great “stake in the ground” workout where it will be great to measure progress in the future. 🥵Also have a decent amount of DOMS in the glutes and top of my legs from Mondays training. My freshly washed hair was ruined with sweat and I looked like I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards. ☔️10k Zone 4: dose of weather reality edition. ☔️I generally love running in the rain, but after 2 weeks of summer weather I wasn’t quite so keen this morning. Really did not want to get out of the car and get going. 10k, Zone 4 on the plan for my first run of this training block. Wasn’t too bad an effort, for the first run back - although I finished it freezing cold and totally saturated. A speedy first km, which felt quite lardy, so happy with that. ☔️Have a mild case of DOMS from training yesterday, which I could feel every now and then (the cold probably helped to mask them!) and I chose the wrong shoes. Vaporfly’s are not made for wet weather as the fabric is way too thin across the top. I knew this, but wore them anyway resulting in wet feet within the first minute of the run. I think I suffer from seasonal laziness 🙃 I had a lot of intentions and big plans, but nothing really "got off the ground". Now that the time has changed,the first habit I'm going to instill is an after dinner walk. It won't be long 20-30 minutes to start, just enough to get into the habit. Then I'll move on to the next item on my list. Changing too many things at once can cause anxiety and stress which could make the new habits feel overwhelming and unsustainable. Adopting just one at time feels more manageable. 👊🏻Holidays are over, off season is over and we’re now back with one eye on the big goals for the year. They are still some way away, but the time of ambling along the beach, late morning workouts and running just for the fun of it is over. I also expect Legs ’n Lung workouts to return - and to be fair I need it. 👊🏻Back in training at the gym this morning for some strength work. The session included sit-ups which I was extremely pleased to be able to do without issue. ☹️Last holiday workout completed in the hotel gym in badly air conditioned comfort 🤣. The aircon was on but did not stop me from sweating the usual buckets. Indoor bike workout - did not fancy the treadmill at all and the bikes had some good workout options. ✈️Been for a little trip into Sydney Nike stores to see what bargains I can get. Ended up with a pair of Invincible’s but my visit to the other store was thwarted by the release of some Air Jordan shoes which caused queues. Couldn’t be bothered with that. ✈️Back to the UK overnight where I will magically get almost a 36 hour birthday due to the time zones 🤣 🔜Friday will be a rest day. ☀️Woke up in time to get a sneaky 5km run in before heading along the coast to the airport for my flight to Sydney. ☀️Another run without any goals and I veered off the beach onto a track as it was high tide and the small amount of sand was a little soft. Didn’t have the energy to slog through sand! I’m full of Tassie food and wine and not very fast at the moment 🤣 ☀️I was very much looking out for snakes on the path (there were none) but a couple of wallabies hopped across the path and had a good look at me. ☀️Flying back to Sydney this afternoon and then leaving for the UK tomorrow afternoon. 🌀I chose the windiest day to run up “The Nut” for my @runsouthsea International edition. 🌀Running may also be a slight exaggeration of my skill level when attempting to take the short and sharp path upwards. There was a lot of huffing and puffing and stopping for photos. The path was so steep that I almost lost control on the way down as well. 🌀It was wild and windy at the top - in one place I could hardly stand upright. But there is also a little sheltered rainforest section which was lovely to run through. 🔜Another run tomorrow. 🏖️Tourist Run around town✅ 🏖️Decided on a little tourist run around town this morning. No distance or pace goals - just stop and take some pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery. 🏖️There are two beaches in town (how incredible is that) so I ran towards the other one via the lower track of “The Nut” which meant a few inclines but also some lovely photo spots. It also allowed me to scope out the track to the top of The Nut- I may try that tomorrow although the weather is looking much windier tomorrow. Then ran along the beach for some different views. Feet and shoes completely soaked but worth it. 🔜Another run tomorrow - hopefully up and around The Nut for Run South International edition. Found out there was a 101km Ultra Run starting in town this morning. I was too late to go cheer them off. Another Pump app workout finished. The superset of pull-ups with pushups and only 10 seconds rest between each superset was brutal, but boy, did I feel good afterwards! I’m amazed at the progress I’m making and I’m only at the start of my second full program. My goal? ☀️Friday Zone 3 beach run ✅ ☀️Beautiful morning for my first beach run in Tasmania- calm and sunny, warm but not hot and the tide was on the way out. ☀️Decided on a one hour Zone 3 run and as expected, my HR crept up at times in the sand. But it’s firm enough most of the way to run on. There was one section where it was really soft and a slog - my feet were sinking into the sand so I turned around after a while. Still lots of fun. ☀️It’s a huge beach but I saw probably 4 people and 2 dogs for the whole way. Views are spectacular. Glad I went in the morning when it was calm as it’s a lot windier this afternoon. 🔜Another run tomorrow although I’m not sure what I will do yet. 📆February ✅ (I know it’s still Feb for one more day but it’s a rest/travel day for me.) 🏃Somehow I managed to keep running in February even if it was slower than I would have liked and still suffering from abdominal tendinitis (self assessed) after the longer efforts. But I kept running even if I did sacrifice the 2 x Coastal Half marathons for long term recovery. 🚑In the gym there was a focus on rehab which meant less time on base building strength work and I feel as though my cardio fitness has taken a big hit. From giving blood to tendinitis to having a lurgy for a few days and then flying to Australia and jet lag. The year has not started in style. But I have run a beautiful scenic route through Sydney and across the Harbour Bridge and I’m thankful I was able to do that. 🔜 As well as ditching the running torch and winter layers, March should see my training start to focus on the first big goal of the year - Serpent Trail 50k.
