Most of you know I have a fusion. I made a new friend, Annemarie, who needs a fusion too. While I am slowly but steady fighting to get better. Annemarie is fighting just as hard, but without the surgery she will never win this fight. I feel so connected to her and feel sick to my stomach that I can't really help her that much. While I needed 9 vertebrae fixed to my skull and thought that was invasive because I cannot move my neck at all. Annemarie needs her entire spine fixed to her skull and hips. Can you even imagine that? Only being able to move your arms and legs and being able to bend at your hips? And that be it? But she'll gladly give that up to get her life back. Annemarie needs €210.000 to fund her surgeries in Barcelona which aren't covered by her healthinsurance because her own country has a lack of knowledge. Primera cirugía ✅ Muchísimas gracias a todas las personas que han estado pendientes y mandándome mensajitos 🙏🏻 La cirugía salió super bien! Fue un poco más complicada de lo que esperaba el Dr (duró poco más del doble) y salí bastante maltratada. En esta cirugía tenía que estar despierta para indicar las zonas de mayor dolor y poder hacer un mapeo de las raíces nerviosas dañadas para la próxima cirugía que si tendré que estar full dormida. Fue un reto para todos, para mí por que fue de muchísimo dolor por aprox 2.5 horas 😢 (el Dr me dijo, sos increíblemente valiente) fue muy muy fuerte. Para el doctor por que el plan inicial cambió completamente y para todo el personal de sala por que era algo totalmente nuevo para todos, pero tuve al mejor equipo de trabajo 🥹🙏🏻 estoy sumamente agradecida con todos por cómo me trataron, cuidaron y ayudaron. Y sumamente agradecida con el @hospital_int_la_catolica por todo el apoyo y tener la mejor disposición y trato. Ahora a descansar unos días, y prepararnos para la próxima cirugía que va a ser larga y complicada, así que no bajemos la guardia y síganme poniendo en sus oraciones 🙏🏻. Seguimos para adelante! Практично всі анатомічні структури піддаються змінам. Зв’язки і суглоби збільшуються під навантаженням (гіпертрофуються), а суглобова поверхня стирається. Міжхребцеві диски втрачають свою пружність. На МРТ такий диск може бути чорного кольору, з меншою висотою і зміненою формою. Тіла хребців також можуть стискатись і обростати навколо крайовими кістковими наростами, які добре видно на КТ. Отже, рентгенолог не може заявити, що ваш хребет абсолютно здоровий. Його завдання - описати все, що він бачить. Day 4 results yesterday were pretty good. I felt some relief like I did after the very first appt I had. It lasted for a while which was a super nice feeling for me. My big struggle still seems to be sleeping. For some reason, I just cannot find that perfect pillow for my neck. I cannot find a comfortable position for my head and neck while I sleep. So upon waking this morning, my neck was so sore again. I’m coming to the conclusion that sleep is one thing that seems to make my neck feel worse. So today, DAY 5, I decompressed for twenty-five minutes and then I had a 20 minute matrix treatment and a 5 minute cold laser therapy treatment. I was sore initially after all the treatments today, which I am learning I am so impatient about because I’m tired of it, and then I eventually started loosening up. I just seem to be getting “kinks” in my neck now as the day goes on. Sometimes I feel them on the right side of my neck and other times they are on the left side. I am hoping they will diminish as I get more of these therapies under my belt. My primary doctor has now put urgent orders in for the ENT so hopefully I will hear from them soon and tomorrow I am supposed to get the allergy appt all set up. Here is hoping I can get all of these tests and appts completed before my summer vacation🙏🏻 I would love to go on vacation and have all of this completed so they are not hanging over my head while away. My cousins hubby was a chiro and he reached out to me which was so nice. I’m sending him copies of my imaging and I’m going to get his take on all of this. I should have everything he needs by the end of the week and then I will mail everything to him. Im extremely curious to hear his perspective. I’m trying to be patient with all of this but after all these years and everything that I’ve already gone through and now all this current stuff, I’m finding it hard to do. Being an #academicmum means that you are on the rail tracks a lot - even more so as a #commuting academic #mum. The train becomes you third #office in addition to the one at university and your #homeoffice. Usually when I am on the train, I retreat into my #mindpalace (Ha! I wish … More like a crammed boxroom.), which is quite solitary. The greater the joy when you meet a colleague and fellow academic mum who a) not only is very nice and b) does fascinating research (This meeting counts as a #oneminute lecture in regenerative #neurogenesis and axonal pathfinding in #spinalcord regeneration. I loved it! Also, I could look at fish.), but c) is also kindred soul when it comes to wearing a mask in crowded spaces. So, when a #neuroscientist, who knows quite well what SARS-CoV-2 can do to your brain, and a #nursingscientist, who teaches #infectionprotection, both continue to #wearamask on the train - take it as a recommendation. This was a fun ride.
