An alliance between the Vampyres and Werewolves is achieved when an arranged marriage between Misery, the daughter of a Vampyre councilman, and Lowe, the Alpha werewolf, is made. But Misery has her own personal reasons for agreeing to the union. I don't normally reach for paranormal or shifter romances but an exception was made for Bride because of the author. Hazelwood has tried something different instead of her usual STEM romances with this paranormal world, and the addition of a mystery subplot. The overlaps ard there, in that both our MCs are intelligent, and have interests and hobbies that show that intelligence. Misery and Lowe are written to perfection. Their chemistry leapt off the page. The author's signature tension and banter is at an all time high. They are both complex and compelling characters. Lowe might be the Alpha but he is kind and considerate, and the way he treated Misery is sweet, and the sibling relationship with Ana is touching too. The side characters are likeable and memorable. I especially like Ana. She is fun and brought some lightness to the book. I adored this book from start to finish. The book started off strong and ended off strong. The world building, story telling, twists, and political intrigue all combine to form a great book. I loved the world created and I would happily read any more books set in this world. My only complaint is I would have loved Lowe's POV, especially on the wedding day! Dragons always know. - Iron Flame Hi all, shops are on “vacation” from now until Easter morning. See previous post for other details. Just an update on pending orders: We have been working on Fourth Wing and Iron Flame non-stop for a few months now, with other books in between. We had issues for this series and caused several delays. - Iron Flame and the red Fourth Wing were released in November and shipments were delayed with our other holiday orders - Shipments started arriving in Jan-Feb with several other series that we also had to paint. We also had Black Friday orders from overseas to pack and ship. - We hired a printer to help us with the customizations, but this is the first time we tried this custom cover. 😅 In addition, the printer had to relocate in February, so we had to stop production while waiting for them to get re-settled. - We had a Shopee glitch in March where orders were removed or duplicated. We’ve sorted most of these but will re-check all orders to be sure. - We’ve finished several batches and shipped them this March along with some other books, like the stenciled OUABH UK. - We’ve sent some photos of books to buyers so they can see the condition of their copies. We’re continuing to sort and pack, and will ship more books this April. After this, we can move on to the other books on our list. We will pause pre-orders for Fourth Wing so we can do the next series on our 2024 line-up. - OUABH US editions - Divine Rivals duology - The Stolen Heir duology - Tales of the Celestial Kingdom (with Daughter of the Moon Goddess and Heart of the Sun Warrior) Other books will be announced but ETA will be in late Q2 or in Q3, due to book publication dates or shipping timelines. Hi everyone, PH is on national holiday starting today and most businesses are on break until Easter Sunday. To observe the Lenten holiday, our shops will be put on “vacation” starting 6pm, today,Thursday to 6am Sunday. Hannah’s Review - The Lamplighters - Emma Stonex When I saw Rhiannon’s gorgeous copy of this a few years ago I knew I had to own it... and then I promptly put it on my shelf and forgot it existed so I stuck it on my 24 in 24 list and finally got round to reading it. Boy howdy, I was not expecting it to hit me so hard! Inspired by the true story of three lighthouse keepers who disappeared from the Flannan Isle Lighthouse, it is told across dual timelines. In 1972, we set foot upon the dock of the Maiden Rock lighthouse, only to find it deserted, the three keepers missing and all of the clocks stopped at the same time. Fast forward a few decades and a writer, researching the story, approaches the wives who were left behind to try to find answers. The story switches between the last few weeks of the keepers’ time on the rock and the women’s accounts of what happened back then. At first I thought this was going to be good ol’ fashioned locked room mystery, with the added atmospheric setting of the sea-battered lighthouse, and it gave me all of that in abundance. There are secrets and twists a plenty, assumptions made but there was also a whole heap of love and loss from all sides. Without spoiling anything, the character I connected with the most was Helen Black (and her husband Arthur), their story was especially personal to me and I sobbed uncontrollably through a lot of their sections! But all of the women’s stories were very emotional, not just the unexpected and immediate loss of their partners but also their stories of life as a keeper’s wife. It seemed like a way of life that is not for everyone and, whilst I do love to be on the water, I certainly couldn’t hack it! For me this was a really interesting study on isolation, of course, the obvious physical isolation that you can imagine that job brings, but the isolation a person can feel within a relationship, and within grief. When her younger sister is sold to the Unseelie king to pay a debt, she is desperate enough to make a deal with the Unseelie king to steal 3 relics from the Seelie court for him. She poses as a potential bride for the Seelie Prince to get access to the court, and soon she's caught between the two courts and she has to decide who to trust. Brie's love and loyalty for her sister is admirable. She's a fighter, determined to do whatever it takes to save her sister. Both the love interests, Finn and Ronan, are complex characters as neither are what they seem. Yes there's a love triangle, but I thought it's well written and handled, and I have already picked my favourite! Looking forward to book 2 to find out if I'm right. The story is entirely from Brie's POV, meaning we learn all about the fae world along with her. The world building and the political rift between the two courts captivated me from the start. The plot was gripping and masterful with perfect pacing. It had everything I wanted and more. The ending has a shocking twist, even though the crumbs were left for us to figure it out, but I didn't guess all the twists! Yes it's a typical fantasy and it's predictable but it's compelling, fun and pure escapism. There's no need to reinvent the wheel, what matters is that it's written well. One of my favourites from this year so far! Here are the differences. - UK is still thicker and a bit larger than the US version - US has a gradient design going to black - UK has characters on the endpapers whereas US has a map, swipe to see. We were just replying to people on Shopee that our printer had to relocate this Feb, and thus we could not get our books with customizations (see a couple rows down). We enjoyed the banter of Emily and Wendell in particular, although part of the charm of the first book was also the people and creatures of their Norwegian island setting. 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝚁𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠: 𝙹𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚗 𝚂𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝙼𝚛 𝙽𝚘𝚛𝚛𝚎𝚕𝚕 𝚋𝚢 𝚂𝚞𝚜𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚊 𝙲𝚕𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚎. An alternate historical fantasy set in the 1800s. Practical magic has faded into history, but there remains one magician in England. A reclusive Mr Norrell, whose displays of magic thrill the country. He's challenged by a young novice Jonathan Strange. And so begins a lifelong battle which causes more trouble than they could imagine. There is much more detail and plot lines than what I summarised above. This is not to say that the plot is confusing. It's quite the opposite. It is well constructed, complex but so clever and original! I was so intimidated by it, as it's been sitting on my shelf for about 3 years. I finally cracked it open and I don't know why I waited that long. It's a chunky one but it's so EPIC. And what's even more impressive is that it was a debut novel! It's been written in the style of a 19th century novel, so it isn't fast paced. The story is intricate, spanning years and countries, with some funny and witty moments too. All the characters are well written, with distinctive voices and personalities. I have a few favourites including Childermass, Norell's enagmatic servent; Arabella, Strange's sweet wife; and of course Norrell and Strange whose battle is the centre of the book. There are so many others but you're never confused as to who is who. About the battle, it's more a scholarly battle, but never boring. It's compelling and interesting. There's also a Fae Gentleman whose schemes include kidnapping and enslaving innocent people. His storyline is more sinister but very entertaining. I was so engrossed in this fictional world, I didn't want it to end. I remained within that world long after returning the book to my shelf. The footnotes - they are numerous and sometimes lengthy but I highly recommend not skipping them. The author uses them masterfully, sometimes just adding some details but often including anecdotal tales that provide depth to the story. The book took Susanna Clarke 10 years to write and it shows, especially in its' meticulous world building. Continued in comments including question.

We’ve been eying to sneak this Dune Messiah in our TBR, in between all other books on our pile. We’ll, it’s thin and we’re familiar with the story, so it should be quick! She gets help from an expert rival who gets under her skin more than she’d like to admit. This is light academia and was a easy and fun read. These are the UK and US editions of this first book in a duology. The US edition is smaller, quite different from most books. It also has NO dust jacket. The beige UK edition is currently sold out, we might get stocks next year when book 2 comes out. Both sequels are ready for pre-orders on our shop. It's darker, and features an antiheroine who you'll root for. For the 1st few chapters it didn't feel like a fantasy, as the fantasy elements of gods, shamans and spirit worlds are slowly introduced. I thought that the book would just be about Rin's time at Sinegard, but halfway through the book we are thrown into the war zone. Rin's character development in this book is amazing. She goes from being a worthless peasant orphan girl to a headstrong soldier with immense powers. She's determined, hard working, stubborn and hotheaded. The supporting cast of side characters ranges from the quirky teacher Jiang, to her best friend Kitay, and her unit of soldiers. They are all fleshed out and unique. The world building is rich, fully formed with 12 provinces, government and history. The world is built as the story progressed rather than info dumping at the beginning of the book. The brutality of war is not shied away from, and it's a bit hard to read at times, especially comparing it to events occurring in the world right now. (I am aware that The Poppy War is based off actual Chinese history). I'm interested to see where the 2nd book leads all the characters. If you're looking for a dark adult fantasy and you don't mind the gore and violence, I highly recommend The Poppy War. We haven’t designed merch with quotes of Saints, but this book dustbag (snug like its blanket)has the Hope quote from Nikolai. Here in the PH, we celebrate All Saints Day and All Souls Day after Halloween. Although the Saints in our traditions are neither fighters nor have magic, they have their own powers, mainly to also change the lives of the people they touch. We have two canonized Saints, three Beatified, and eight Venerables. The latest Venerable was declared in May last year. They are not as celebrated as our heroes, but also noteworthy. She has a one of 35 chance of being the next Queen of Illéa. It's a chance of a lifetime and many girls would kill to be in her place. But for America being one of The Selected is a nightmare. The Selection is a light, quick and easy read with just enough angst. The writing is uncomplicated, the world with the caste system interesting enough that you want to know more. It not only dives into America's journey in the Selection process and her love triangle, but also the monarchy and it's flaws. America remains true to herself which I liked. She's honest, sassy and outspoken. I thought her relationship with her parents and her sister May was captured quite well. I was surprised by how much I liked Prince Maxon. He is polite, kind and understanding. I was drawn into Americas story, even though it's a quick read, the story line has constant momentum and I just had to know what happens next. This was good dystopian society set up, and the caste system is effective, but I wish we had a bit more explanation and background regarding it. It is a tad predictable and cheesy but a fun read nevertheless. It's like a guilty pleasure. This stencil for Heart of the Sun Warrior by @suelynntan was fun to do, with firebird silhouettes and clouds. The UK Daughter of the Moon Goddess has a matching design with swallows.
