A HUGE shout-out needs to be given to the Zumba Gold Zeeps at Fitness Pro. The fun we had rocking out to Christmas music, dancing some freestyles in a Soul Train set up, and Wobbling our way out of 2023 will be a day I will not soon forget. I started out as a participant of my dear friend, Jenni's Gold class, became a sub for Gold, and unexpectedly became the permanent Gold instructor in March of this year. It has been a whirlwind, and I wouldn't change it for anything. Thank you, my Zumba Gold family, for embracing me so quickly and warmly. You all mean the world to me, and I'm grateful for you. Resistance training at an older age and combating age related muscle loss,, “SARCOPENIA” What is SARCOPENIA? Sarcopenia is defined as the loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength, with muscle atrophy beginning at age 25, Muscle is essential for maintaining muscle action, functional independence, managing daily activities, and living a healthy active lifestyle. Inactive adults experience a 3% to 8% loss of muscle mass per decade, accompanied by a lower resting metabolic rate, fat accumulation, and weight gain. Evidence also shows that strength declines at a greater rate than the loss of muscle of about 12-15% per decade after the fifth decade of life. Does this affect all? It’s sure can,, Strength training, nutrition and an active lifestyle is how you prevent this and you can actually build muscle, REVERSING the process. Yeah I probably could have done a cute little pose with a cute little caption but we’re all about the raw and real on this account. How many time have you compared your body to somebody else’s? How many times have you looked at someone and thought, “Wow, I wish I looked like that.” Honestly, everyone struggles with this, guys and girls alike. Sometimes, I find myself doing the same thing I’m not going to lie. And it sucks. It sucks not feeling like you are enough the way you are. If you struggle with comparing yourself to others on a daily basis just know you are not alone. So many people do it! I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who didn’t dream of having somebody else’s “body”. Because to them that other person was “summer bod goals” or what they wanted to look like for the summer. Remember, just because someone looks like they are in great physically shape doesn’t mean that you don’t look just as good. Why would you want to look like someone else when you could be instead, the best version of yourself. The best version of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically. If perhaps you are on your own fitness journey, remember this. Your mental health and mindset going into it is the most important thing. If you have an unhealthy mindset you will not succeed. Day 3 of eating no processed or added sugars...okay this actually isn’t that bad. I’ve been eating a lot of fruits and that kinda curbs my sweet tooth. Last night at work I ate 1 pound of mango slices😂 That’s all I have to say for now but I know later on down the road it might get harder😬 My workout at the gym was pretty bomb and I am SO freakin sore from walking. 2.75 miles (moderate to fast pace) 20 (✖️3) ball slams with 12lbs medicine ball. 5 minutes of handstand practice. Tomorrow I’ll do something more interesting I’m just trying to get into the swing of things still after being gone for so long.
