So I got to work. I asked my mentor for help. I asked my professional network for help. I thanked the amazing woman who took a chance on me and showed me how to start and run a practice over 10 years ago. I have been slowly and quietly bringing my idea to life. It feels so freeing to try something new and be true to what I value and want to contribute to the community. It has also been very uncomfortable putting myself out there. I must be on the right path to my next chapter because I have NEVER typed anything this long about myself. ESPECIALLY not to post publicly on the internet. I also know I must be on the right path because my contract was terminated last week. Instead of panic or a sense of failure, I felt relief and gratitude. I knew I was not on the right path or working towards something that would give me the sense of purpose I seem to value so much in my daily life, but I didn’t know how to let go of it (even after all that work on being true to myself 🙄). I am confident today that I can no longer remain in spaces where I water myself down, make myself small, or settle for less out of fear. This topic is WAY too important to not acknowledge…Nurturing one’s mental health is hands down one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. I LOVE that our society is finally starting to remove the stigma and shame around mental healthcare. And the beauty about it, mental healthcare can look however you want it to look…disconnecting and going into nature, formal therapy or counseling, taking a day to just do only what feels good for your heart, utilizing support groups, neurofeedback, etc…it all matters!! So, to my ABSOLUTE SHOCK, I discovered through an intensive session that my ‘why’ is 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦. I thought this over for a bit. That statement felt so true for me, and yet I couldn’t imagine how I would do it. My skill set is practice management, not mentorship or counseling. So I thought it over some more. While I was overthinking it, I had already quit the job I hated (Dobby is a free elf!) I took on a contract role to build a practice from the ground up. It seemed like a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, be financially stable, and find some purpose in my work. I asked for help and hired a mentor to guide me. I made agendas and did research. I created processes and projected costs. I was so excited to build a practice that ran efficiently and helped others (even if it was everyone) heal their insides so that they could live the lives they wanted. After a couple months of roadblocks and some red flags, I realized the business I contracted with didn’t share the same ‘why’ with me. So now, disillusioned and overthinking, I was once again - WHAT DO I DO!? I thought to myself - 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 “𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬” 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞…𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧, 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐞. I can usually handle criticism because I learn from it. Have a really tough time with rejection because it is based on someone else's feelings which are out of my control and/or I don't understand the basis of the rejection (sometimes called Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria). Amidst the day-to-day that I found so frustrating, there were moments that I got to have real conversations with women, both colleagues and clients, that I felt fulfilled, like what I did made a difference, and like I had a purpose.  I love the feeling of connecting with other women. Long before I had this recent existential crisis with work, I  found myself the most alone I have ever felt. I was completely hopeless and was so unhappy with who I was and what I was doing with my life. This was the first time in my life that I remember asking for help. I was met with kindness and compassion from some amazing women. Some of the “help” didn’t seem very helpful: I was asked to look at myself (um, no thank you) to first consider how I could change and grow to improve my life. I have written letters to my inner child, listed my flaws and assets, done positive affirmations IN A MIRROR 🫠, identified where the negative thoughts I tell myself come from, challenged those thoughts with loving kindness to myself, prayer & meditation, AND SO MANY LISTS. There’s more, but my point is the help I was offered required work on my part and I wasn’t totally stoked about it at the time, BUT the pain of staying the same hurt more than the pain of change.  So I did it.  Every time I’ve done the work, I’ve gotten a little more freedom from the things that weigh me down and ITS SO RAD. Every. Single. Time.  Counseling was suggested to me by women who had sought professional help and found that it helped them address deeply rooted issues that venting, community, and friendship could not address appropriately. It was a little awkward at first, sorting my truth out with a stranger. But the insight I gained and the relationships I developed were so much more rewarding than I ever expected when I started. On the days you wake up in a "funk", give yourself grace and show yourself some EXTRA love as you feel your way through it! ✌️🫶😘 After a busy and stressful week I woke up in the "funkiest" mood today, and no matter how hard I tried to shake it, I couldn't! I had to remind myself - it's okay to not always feel okay, you're going through a lot right now". That little moment of GRACE helped me SHIFT into being KINDER to myself today! 🤗❤️ Then I reminded myself that taking care of me today was even more essential because how I was feeling, when I lean into the things that help uplift me it makes a difference, even on the hard days. Some days may look and feel different, it's about supporting your mental, physical, and spiritual health with what you need! 🙏❤️💪 Lord knows had I not made it a MUST to rise and shine, read my Bible, daily devotional, p.d., gratitude journal, move my body, and soak in the vitamin D with my walk - I would still be in a "funky" mood, but I feel BETTER than what I did when I first woke up, to me that's a WIN! 🙌🫶😍 Remember if you're having a hard day too, it's going to be okay, this too shall pass, and let yourself feel your way through it! Prioritize what you need mentally, physically, and spiritually - YOUR health is important too! ❤️😘 This is YOUR reminder to lean into the things that help your mind, body, and soul feel more aligned! 🙌 It's true what they say "where your focus goes, your energy will flow" - you can choose to stay in the "funk" or allow yourself to work through it and work on bringing more JOY in! 🤗 And as always if YOU need a hand getting started along journey, I'm always here to lend a helping hand! 🤲 Always a message away when you're ready to make your health a priority! 💌🫶😘
