I thought meditation was supposed to help my panic, but it didn't help. So, I went back to my father and told him about my disappointing experience with meditation. My father said, 'Don't say 'Get out!' to panic. You must welcome the panic. During meditation, panic doesn't have to become an obstacle. Panic is okay; no panic is okay.' I thought 'Wow, interesting.' So then I changed my style of meditation a little bit. In Pali, an ancient language of Buddhism, the word ”Vipassana” means “seeing things as they really are.” The literal translation is “special seeing.” It involves observing your thoughts and emotions as they are, without judging or dwelling on them.  Vipassana is one of the most documented studied meditation techniques with well known benefits including; reducing stress, reducing anxiety, improved mental wellness, improves brain plasticity, helps treat addiction. In Vipassana, you simply observe your inner self instead of consciously controlling the experience. There are no other images, tasks, or stimuli. The goal, although stated simply, can be difficult at first. It may be helpful to remind yourself to focus on quieting our mind, focusing on the present, accepting thoughts, emotions and sensations as they are right now and respond to what is present based in the current reality of what you are experiencing without getting involved in any additional stories.  You can practice in a quiet place or on the go.  You can practice laying down with eyes closed or seated at your office desk with a light gaze.  You can also practice with us during an amazing 10 day Hawaiian yoga retreat training. When I share yoga & wellbeing practices with children & teens, I always practice Mindfulness with them too. Always looking for diverse ways to share it so that all children can understand & incorporate it, I love hearing different Mindfulness teachings. Meditation does NOT have to be sitting in silence with your legs crossed, being as still as a statue 🧘‍♀️ Meditation can be - 🎶 Pressing play on a piece of music you love, closing your eyes and being fully present in the music. 🏃 Going for a walk or run with no phone, no headphones just you, yourself and nature. 🐶 Sitting stroking your pet and being fully present with them, not being on your phone or watching tv. Just you and them. 💪 A HIIT workout. 🌳 Sitting in the forest next to a tree and just breathing. 💮 A yoga class! And making sure to be fully present in it. And maybe the best option 😉👇😝 💜 Joining an X-Hail Meditation class with me and learning to meditate the X-Hail way! So really, meditation can be lots of thing and YOU get to choose what works for you! You cannot get it wrong. Meditation can be for everyone but not every TYPE of meditation is for everyone. I tried something new! I went to my first hot yoga class 😅 I was nervous, I had all sorts of stereotypes about the practice and about myself, non of which were true! As soon as I went into the space, I received a friendly welcome, I knew it would be okay. I was guided so beautifully by @nowjessyoga. I was given the space to explore, to try things out. We all start from a different point. We may come to a meditation practice after an ease full day, we may then feel even more calm and grounded. Perhaps we come to our practice after a very busy day, lots of rushing around, feelings of stress and so a practice may reduce this a little, we may move towards quiet, but not quite as much as another day. So each day the practice is different , because each day WE are different. We experience different things, we have different outside impacts on our lives, which impact us internally. The holidays are over, the kids are back to school. I do love it when they are off. Our bodies benefit from less rushing around, going at our pace, being in sink with our nervous systems and what we need. No little tiny tummies full of worry because of social structures placed on us. But my mind does miss the routine, the anticipation of the alarm, the getting up, with the knowing what’s happening today, even despite the constant juggle.
