I’m in bed sick today and felt so badly this morning that I wasn’t able to get the kids ready for camp/child care like I usually do…which reminded me of this old comic. As Ben and the kids were about to walk out the door I asked my daughter to brush her hair and Ben responded with, “She’s fine!” After they left I was thinking about it and realized that I don’t really care if she brushes her hair—it did look fine—I just don’t want to be judged as a mother bc my daughter hasn’t brushed her hair. Ben doesn’t worry about this kind of thing bc he’s never felt judged for how the kids look or act. I was trying to explain to my husband how we were going to start working out “at-home” and we would be using DVD’s to view the workouts . His response … 😒 We weren’t “new” to working out , but we had become very inconsistent after the kiddos were born . We also realized it was time to switch up “how” we got the workouts done because “time for ourselves” was so minimal . - Insert random person on Instagram ➡️ who shared with me all about “BODi” fitness platform , the accountability group to check in with daily and was there for me as my “coach” — (an accountability buddy, who was going to be there to guide and support me throughout my journey) I was IN and convinced my hubby to join me at 5:30 AM in our family room for the workouts and weeks later my entire life transformed ! Sharing this subscriber comic (from Feb) today bc we’ve made SO much progress in this area in just 6 months that I think it’s worth mentioning! 🎉 Background: over the years, for a number of logistical reasons ( the fact that Ben works evenings 3 nights/week), I became the default and preferred bedtime parent for both of our kids. This meant that if I was at home, I had to be the one to put them to bed or we’d face serious meltdowns. Every night, bedtime would drag on for an hour or so and I would be frazzled, angry, and resentful while Ben was downstairs relaxing after doing the dishes. Back in January, we decided that this HAD to change and so we took steps to change it. “All” it took (lol) was us setting keeping some serious bedtime boundaries, working together, and getting through some horribly tough nights at the beginning…but now we’ve FINALLY gotten to a place where Ben can put the kids to bed while I’m at home (downstairs) without a total meltdown. This is HUGE for us! In fact, when Ben puts them to bed they get through the bedtime routine MUCH faster he gets a break from dish duty (which I don’t mind at all if it means I don’t have to do bedtime) so it’s a win-win for all. I say all of this for those of you who, like me, thought you were stuck being the only parent who could do bedtime. It IS possible to break the preferred parent cycle but it takes serious buy-in from both parents and a plan of action. Het is nu voor onze kleine grote meid de tijd om af te tellen naar haar verjaardag. Ze is daar ook al druk mee bezig, elke dag plakt ze de dag af met een sticker op de aftelkalender. Wat heeft Sila er zin in, want dan is ze een nog grotere meid, 4 jaar! Dat betekent officieel naar de basisschool en gezellig met haar grote broer bij dezelfde bso. Vandaag werd ze door de juf al meegenomen in de lijst voor koningsspelen, blijer kan je ons meisje niet maken. Vanaf het begin met het ontbijt, spelletjes en tot aan de afsluiting zat ze in de klas als een echte groep "ééner" (swipe voor een foto van vandaag). Ik was er als hulpmoeder de hele dag bij, vanaf het smeren van broodjes tot ook de afsluiting. Ik zag hoe Sila al goed in de groep valt, iedereen wilt haar helpen en met haar spelen. Het lijkt zelfs alsof ze allemaal grote broers erbij heeft gekregen, want de vriendjes van Sion kijken allemaal naar haar om. Ze was 1x gevallen en meteen de grote jongens om haar heen om haar te helpen 🥹. Dus ik weet dat ze in goede handen is in de "ook weer niet" nieuwe omgeving. Ze ging natuurlijk al vaak mee om Sion te brengen of op te halen. Voor Sila is het maandag en dinsdag de laatste dagen bij haar huidige opvang, woensdag is ze jarig en de dag daarna mag ze gezellig samen met Sion naar de bso. Ik kan zelf ook niet wachten om ze heerlijk samen weg te kunnen brengen en niet van de één naar de ander. Dus een win-win 🤗. Maar even, de tijd vlirgt voorbij. Exploring the streets of Old Porvoo Last Sunday we did a little trip with my fav little humans to the Old Porvoo and visited a friend of mine at the same time. Porvoo is so beautiful city with old wooden houses. It’s packed w turists during summer season and I don’t wonder why 🏠 She didn’t care about the beautiful buildings, we was just excited to run around and checking through the Windows what’s inside the shops.
