I had a birthday in January. I don't like to announce it because to me it's actually my new year. I’ve always wanted to be a mom, but never anticipated the overstimulation and increased anxieties that it would come with. I had a very unexpected pregnancy and was depressed for the duration of it - I struggled with body dysmorphia throughout and mourned the life I had as well as how I had imagined it would have been had it been expected/planned. NONE of these things take from the love I have for my daughter, my life and being a mom. All of these things can exist simultaneously. I’ve also struggled with mental health for a large portion of my life and knew I was at risk for PPD. But I had know idea id struggle with PPA, overstimulation and mom rage TOO. The transition from none to one quite frankly kicked my A$$. But I’m here to tell you, you’re not alone and it DOES and WILL get better. Because you’ll get used to it, you’ll get better at your routine, you’ll start to find yourself again. It’s still a daily battle, but it’s not even close to how hard it used to be. My life changed in ways I never could have imagined when this guy was born 8 years ago. Being a parent wasn’t something I was sure I wanted (let’s be honest, some days I’m still not sure 🫠), but I love this guy with all my heart. He looks so big and mature these days, but still loves a good fart joke. Some of his favorite things are snuggling with the dogs, baseball, and reading (just like his mom 😍).
