La alianza del mal sigue siendo la misma, una casta política tenebrosa, esta vez encarnada en una pareja a punto de perder su inmunidad: el ex primer ministro del Reino Unido Adam Lang y su mujer, un par de auténticas víboras shakesperianas (impecables Pierce Brosnan y Olivia Williams). La película empieza con una autobiografía complaciente y un nuevo escritor fantasma contratado para urdirla (Ewan McGregor, pálido del miedo), ya que el anterior sueña ahora con los peces. Es curioso el comentario de un personaje secundario al bueno de Ewan en un momento de la historia: a este tipo tú lo votaste. Cómo no hacerlo, responde él, era un encantador de serpientes. Polanski sabe mejor que nadie que el mal no se acerca solo, al menos alguien le ha puesto la firma para llamarlo, ya sea una persona o una nación entera. Toda la puesta en escena que veremos a continuación, con sus pistas falsas, sus caídos en desgracia o sus hilos en las sombras académicas no son más que piezas intercambiables de un teatro de la crueldad. Un relato pesimista, como las novelas negras y policiales de antaño, cínicas y sabias, en las que el ciudadano de a pie no llegaba a comprender del todo en qué se sostenía su ética y al que solo le queda especular mientras agoniza. Polanski filmó esta estupenda película cerca de cumplir los 80 años, pero le saca varias cabezas a cineastas famosos de la actualidad con la mitad de su edad y su talento. Un maestro de la tensión haciendo un thriller político inteligentísimo y que jamás va a superponer tiempos o apurar el ritmo porque es lo que demanda el espectador del momento; es más, las angustiantes escenas finales no se atropellan ni duran menos que las iniciales. Es que al destino hay que respetarlo y hay que dejarlo desplegarse con pasmosa naturalidad.

Non sono un amante di George Clooney in generale (non come regista, non come attore ed ancora meno come personaggio pubblico), ma questo film credo sia profondamente sottovalutato. Uscito nel lontano duemilasette, lo andai a vedere al cinema con la mia fidanzata dell’epoca. I temi trattati nella pellicola difficilmente ti lasciano indifferente (un’azienda cerca di nascondere i danni che sta compiendo alla popolazione). Uno dei thriller che più facilmente consiglio a chi me lo chiede. Quando lo vidi, ad ogni modo, ero una persona profondamente diversa da quella che sono oggi; chiunque lo guarderà noterà sicuramente la profonda differenza tra la fiction del film e la vita reale. Batman Begins: 📀📀📀📀📀📀📀📀(8/10 discs) “Why do we fall Bruce?” A memorable quote that sets up the story for our hero Bruce Wayne. Also in a way a line dedicated toward the predecessors of the Batman films that fell off and stunk up the theater before this one. Warner Brothers taking Batman out from the ice cold oath the last one lead and asked Christopher Nolan to restart the franchise and make this incredible origin story. Easily the best Batman when it was released. The reason this film is so above the previous is its focus on the story of Bruce Wayne and Batman and barely on the villains. Seeing how Bruce trained and gained his fighting knowledge before even coming up with his alter ego Batman. Once he does become Batman, how he acquired his gadgets, his suit, his Batmobile. Seeing him beat up early and figuring out the suit and mask was never done and hasn’t since. It was a perfect prequel that was so good they asked Nolan to remake the classic original Batman. Better each watch knowing the future of the trilogy and how much more down to earth this one is. Christian Bale is a very solid Batman and might be an even better Bruce Wayne. Honestly very impressed with all the casting except one. Katie Holmes seems to have been a studio decision based on the fact that she isn’t in the sequels and overall isn’t that great for the role. That said, Morgan Freeman as Lucius, Michael Caine as Alfred, even Tom Wilkinson as Falcone and Cillian Murphy as the scarecrow were amazing performances. At the time Liam Neeson as an actor star was a rare sight, now not the case but he still is great. The film stars Laura Linney as a lawyer who is hired to defend a priest (Tom Wilkinson) who is charge with the murder of Emily Rose (Jennifer Carpenter) following a failed exorcism. I remember being fascinated by this film when it was released. I guess the true story aspect gripped me. While I think now the present day courtroom scenes are a little dry, the performances are great, but the flashbacks with Jennifer Carpenter's Emily Rose are incredible. She gives such a sincere performance and those possession scenes are great. The scene where she leaves her body is creepy AF. I just rewatched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and initially I wasn’t going to write a review for it because I want to focus on recent releases, but my rewatch made me remember how much I adore this film (it is in my top 10 of all time). Eternal Sunshine is one of the most, if not the most honest depiction of a relationship in film. Joel and Clementine’s relationship is simultaneously heartbreaking and comforting, the film message to the audience is simultaneously cynical and hopeful and none of these ideas lose out to or contradict the other. Jim Carrey gives a career best performance as a deeply broken and desperate man, and Kate Winslet plays two different characters in a way, the real very grounded version of Clementine and the version that only exists in the mind of Joel. The cinematography is both naturalistic and dreamy whilst also being very memorable and beautiful, the editing is very creative, and the music is genuinely fantastic. This film beautifully conveys ideas of how we remember others and our expectations for others and ourselves. The subplot with Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Wilkinson, and Elijah Wood works very well in reflecting the themes of the Main plot line inside Joel’s memory. The story told by Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman in this film is shattering, essential, and absolutely universal. This is truly an unforgettable masterpiece on every level. The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005-2012) _ My least favorite of the Nolan Batman trilogy is Batman Begins. I rarely watch it. I don’t think it’s a bad movie, per se. I would just rather watch The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises. The Dark Knight is incredible in all aspects. So many great lines and shots. This was the film that sold me on how great of a director Nolan really was. The Dark Knight Rises is a fantastic end to a hell of a trilogy. Christopher Nolan knocked the series out of the park. Phenomenal casting.
