I'm going to Istanbul at the end of June, and as usual, I decided to find some books related to my trip destination. Orhan Pamuk seemed a great choice as he's one of the most famous Turkish writers, winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, and a person who has been living all his life in Istabul (at the same apartment building owned by his family). I read "The Museum of Innocense" last year and was fascinated by Pamuk's writing and talent to create vivid images. "Istanbul. Memories and the City" has the same beauty and ability to provide a profound sense of atmosphere and spirit of the city. It was difficult to put this book aside once I started it, and the next thing I knew, I got to the middle of it in less than twenty-four hours. “𝐒𝐧𝐨𝐰” 𝐛𝐲 𝐎𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐤 It’s hard to believe that the story is fictional, so I had to Google (although I knew it was fictional) just to make sure there was no mistake in my understanding. It’s like hoping for a better end in a movie you’ve watched a thousand times. And it happens because we have two protagonists: Ka, the main hero of this story, a poet returning from exile in Germany to his hometown Kars, Turkey, and Orhan himself. So, I’m sure you can understand my confusion. It all feels very realistic. Originally, Ka comes to Kars as a journalist to investigate a spate of suicides by religious Muslim women protesting the injunction to remove their headscarves at school. Due to a heavy snowstorm, he gets stuck in Kars for 3 days. And oh my God, so much happens in those 3 days. A whole life! As Ka navigates the political tensions and personal dramas, he becomes entangled in a web of love, betrayal, and ideological conflict. The atmospheric descriptions of the snow-covered landscape evoke a sense of isolation and melancholy, mirroring the characters’ inner turmoil. There is a lot happening in the book, but 2 things for me were the most interesting: 1. Art in everyday life 2. An ability to manipulate people. I must admit that I really enjoyed the first 250 pages, but then it became very repetitive and lost me completely. I was also disappointed that the author didn’t deliver what felt like a very natural thing to do. I can’t say more without spoiling it for you. I’ll just mention that a snowflake diagram of poetry is involved. Orhan Pamuk was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006. #cr: My name is Red by orhan pamuk it is a murder mystery with glorious descriptions of traditional ottoman miniatures. the book comes and goes between perspectives of various characters, including a depiction of a tree, a dog (the murderer's dog, I may add), and a coin. The book elaborates on various aspects of Ottoman society since I always loved orhan pamuk's writing it is going quite well. If you are at least a little bit curious, you should give it a shot! Also, all those talks on old tales of lovers (ferhat and sirin & leyla and mecnun) made me want to pick a folk tales book! They are always very poetic and dramatic, and last I read was when I was in high school... I hope I can find some time for that🫂 I will write a review after I finish this book, but since I have not shared anything for a month now, I wanted to update this little blog I have🥺 Hope everyone is okay!♡

His training involved offering optimal professional performance without any mention of rest. I am a civilian- less than 8 hrs sleep is a sacrilege. We’d get on a call & I’d wait for him to doze off in our conversation gaps, glad that THAT night I may get my mandatory rest. As I would happily anticipate cutting the call, my finger hovering over the end button, he would jolt out of his power nap and send out a flurry of hellos. We’d slip into conversation, and I’d wait for him to doze off again- the charade put on repeat. Reading The Idiot was something like that. Every time I’d think of forsaking the book, a gem would sparkle and I’d get hopeful again. There are very few boring books that I have outlasted. This is one of them. Maybe the only one. I don't know if I should congratulate myself or the writer. The book is a seemingly clever exploration of being a student (Selin) in an Ivy League college. I found it slightly condescending, absolutely brilliant in the parts that it was, but mostly tedious. Some bits like falling for toxic people, the mundanity of youthful experiences or travelling could have been explored better. But… I had forgotten what it was to be young and unwise because life hadn't damaged you enough. Wisdom is a hard-earned keep and I could debate you on how a 40 year old is exponentially sagacious compared to someone half their age. Unless you are Harry Potter, an orphan, someone with a disability or have scraped the bottom of the poverty urn, if you are not yet 20 or just about, you may be damn clever but may also feature dangerously close to stupid on the wisdom grid. Which is why the young make mistakes. Which is how you grow. The dialogue- uff! It was for the lack of a better word- infantile. It made doubly arduous an experience already tiresome. Despite that as a reader I just gel better with character-driven stories, I was willing to cut it some slack but honestly even the plot is like Selin- dull & uninteresting. I would have had more fun with the Golf Digest. :-/

Jedným z neodmysliteľných symbolov ázijskej časti Istanbulu je socha bojujúceho býka, ktorá sa nachádza na spojnici šiestich ciest – na Kadıköy Altıyol. Zopár rýchlych faktov o soche býka v Kadıköy 📝  📍Socha je vytvorená z bronzu známym francúzskym sochárom Isidorom Bonheurom v roku 1864 a je vo veľkosti reálneho dospelého býka. 📍Socha bola vystavená na námestí v Alsasko-lotrínskej území Francúzska, ako spomienka na víťazstvo nad nemcami. Dlho na tomto mieste nepobudla a v roku 1870, keď bolo Alsasko-lotrínske územie obsadené nemcami, bola presunutá do nemeckého Berlína. 📍Presun sochy z Európy do Ázie má dve alternatívy: Podľa prvej alternatívy bola socha darovaná a zaslaná v roku 1917 Wilhelmom II. osmanskému generálovi Envervi Paşovi počas prvej svetovej vojny, ktorý ju umiestnil do paláca Yıldız a po skončení prvej svetovej vojny ostala opustená v paláci. Podľa druhej alternatívy bola socha objednaná sultánom Abdülaziz, ktorý v 60. rokoch 19 storočia navštívil Paríž, kde hľadal unikátne umenie a objednal si až 24 sôch, ktoré dal umiestniť do paláca Yıldız, pričom po skončení vojny boli tieto sochy pošli vlastným osudom. 📍V roku 1940 bola socha umiestnená pred kongresový a výstavný palác Lütfü Kırdar. 📍V roku 1955 bola socha premiestnená k hotelu Istanbul Hilton, neďaleko Taksimského námestia. 📍V roku 1970 bola socha premiestnená pred úrad v Kadıköy a v roku 1990 bola umiestnená na už spomenutú križovatku šiestich ciest. 📍V roku 2012, pre zápasom medzi Fenerbahçe a Galatasaray bola socha pomaľovaná na žltočerveno. İtiraflarda ailenin o güne kadar yaşadıkları herkesin kendi bakış açısından anlatılmaktadır. Sırlar ortaya çıktıkça arka arkasına dramlar da gelmekte ve ailenin yaşantısının hiç de göründüğü gibi olmadığı anlaşılmaktadır. Her sayfa bir öncekinden daha ağır dramlar, daha ağır süprizler içermekte , bu durum da, okuyucu da farklı duygusal değişimler yaratmaktadır. Kitap çok akıcı ve sürükleyici. Yazarın basit ve kısa cümleler içeren bir anlatımı var. Sıkıcı betimlemeler fazla kullanılmamış, sadece olaylara odaklanılmış. Bu durum da okumayı çok kolaylaştırıyor. Bir de arka arkasına gelen ve insanın adeta içini yakan dramları eklediğimiz de kitap, çok hızlı bir şekilde okunuyor. Büyük beğeniyle okudum. Kesinlikle herkesin okumasını tavsiye ederim. Hatta mutlaka okuyun diyorum. Kitabın arka kapağında bu yorumu okudum. Bahsedilen üç isme de yakınlık duyan bir okuyucu olarak bunun 'abartılı' bir yorum olduğunu düşündüm. Oysa Drogo'nun Bastiani Kalesi'ne tırmanışıyla başlayıp kaleden inişiyle biten romanın, bu yorumun fazlasını bile hak ettiğini düşünerek kapağını kapattım. Kitap boyunca zihnimde Ahmet Cemiller, Yabancılar, Godotlar resmi geçit düzenledi.😅 Fakat bu, kitabın özgünlüğüne zerre zarar vermedi. Tezer Ozlu, lead a tragic life died early fighting Breast Cancer and before that she fought mental illness. Her writing is an original voice, screaming out from the streets of Istanbul. She talks about mental and physical abuse she talks about love and how funny we all are with our rules and need to own others in relationships and marriages. I found the book to be a prolonged scream full of beautiful quiet moments when she talks about streets and rain and spring and her city. V minulosti bola centrom väčšieho komplexu pozostávajúceho z teologickej školy, kuchyne a kúpeľov.  Zopár rýchlych faktov o Mešite Eyüp Sultan 📝 📍Najsvätejšia a najdôležitejšia mešita v celom Turecku. 📍Štvrtým najsvätejším miestom pre moslimov po Mekke, Medine a Jeruzaleme. 📍Mauzoléum Ebu Ejup el-Ansárí (Abú Ajjúb al-Ansárí)(obr. 3 a 8), ktorý bol vlajkonosičom a blízkym priateľom proroka Mohameda. Ebu Ejup el-Ansárí (Abú Ajjúb al-Ansárí) zahynul počas prvého arabského obliehania Konštantínopolu. 📍Mešitu dal postaviť sultán Mehmed II., známy aj ako Mehmet Dobyvateľ, a to v roku 1458, len päť rokov po dobytí Konštantínopolu, nakoľko sa jeho učiteľovi Akşemseddinovi prisnil sen o výstavbe pamätnej mešity na mieste, kde bol pochovaný Ebu Ejup el-Ansárího (Abú Ajjúb al-Ansárího). 📍Koncom 18. storočia bola mešita v zlom stave, zrejme v dôsledku zemetrasenia – sultán Selim III. nariadil mešitu zbúrať a prestavať (okrem minaretov). 📍V mešite sa nachádzajú posvätné relikvie, o ktorých sa predpokladá, že patria samotnému Mohamedovi. 📍Vzhľadom na posvätnosť tohto miesta sú v blízkosti mešity pochované významné osmanské osobnosti, napr.
