FACE TO FACE FRIDAY! 🎉⁠ ⁠ I have not had a dramatic weight loss experience, about 20 pounds, but most of that was inflammation. So, I don't have a ton of before and after pictures. I also didn't take many pictures of myself when I was feeling like complete shit, which I'm sure you can relate to.⁠ ⁠ I thought I'd share a photo of me from when I might look just fine on the outside, but I am feeling really crappy on the inside. ⁠ ⁠ This was taken on April 28th, 2021—almost three years to the day. We were living full-time in our motorhome (this one we just bought) and were in Austin, TX. I was feeling bloated, exhausted, and generally stressed out. My weight was up about 15 pounds from my normal weight, and I was really pushing it wearing these jeans—hence the long sweater.⁠ ⁠ Since then, I've learned a lot about my health and have been able to get myself back to my happy place. But if I could go back in time and tell myself one thing, it would be to BREATHE!⁠ ⁠ My daily breath work has really helped my stress levels and has been a major part of my healing. I take four breath breaks daily, which means that no matter where I am, I take a few moments to take four deep breaths and more if I need to. Breathe in for a count of six to eight, hold for a count of four, and exhale for a count of six to eight. Spring is definitely in the air. On our weekend walk we caught sight of the first blooming bluebells. Now, if it would only stop raining! These mini spring tarts are to me, a celebration of spring. Filled with broad beans, peas, asparagus and chives, encased in wholegrain and white spelt pastry. Always blind bake the pastry until crisp and cooked through. Edible flowers to decorate of course 😊 And important to note, finish baking the tarts at a low temperature (150C fan) so as not to burn the flowers. I’m heading into town today, the lovely @ozlems_turkish_table has invited me to the launch of her new book #Sebze. More on that later.

Did you know some of the worst air quality we are exposed to is in our house? Our houses are so well insulated these days that the air continuously circulates exposing us to environmental toxins such as VOCs from personal care and cleaning products, fragrances, clothes, bedding, appliances, and furniture. The filters in our furnace typically aren’t catching these small particles either. Not to mention some homes have mold issues contributing to poor air quality, which altogether can bog down our bodies leading to unwanted signs and symptoms such as frequent headaches, fatigue, stuffy sinuses, weight gain, poor sleep, and more. One of the best things we added to our house to help were our air purifiers! We tried a couple different ones and the ones from @airdoctor have been by far the best! It catches so much more including potential mold spores. Other air purifiers I have heard good things about: Winix, Austin Air, IQAir. Good Friday ✝️ “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23.34) REFLECTION by Dr Taylor Marshall: “One thing that we all struggle with in this life is walking around with an injured soul. I cannot speak for ever single one of you. However, everyone that I’ve come to know intimately shares with that he or she bears a few wounds that have not been healed up perfectly. Think of the person who has hurt you the most. Think of the most painful wound that you have ever received in your entire life. Don’t we all bear wounds like this? I know it is not easy, but as we meditate on our Lord Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins, maybe we can “locate” our wounds in His wounds. Truth be told, we wounded Him more than anyone will ever wound us. Yet He says, “Father, forgive them.” More than that, He gives us a place within His own family: “Behold your mother.” Even more than this, He suffers His own wounds AND our wounds with us. Consider those wounds and pains that you bear and place them in the pierced side of Jesus Christ. Insert them into His pierced side and manually push them up until they are snug with His Sacred Heart. Know that your hurts are felt by His Sacred Heart. You may not be ready to utter the words, “Father forgive him/her” concerning the person who hurt you. However, if you place your pain inside His pain, His voice speaks for you. Eventually His voice will become your voice. You will say, “I forgive you.” Good Friday is a wonderful day to do some heavy lifting in our spiritual life. Shoulder up the cross and give it a go. It’s your last chance before Easter to do something truly heroic with Christ. This sourdough starter had been with me since March, 2020. I love sourdough, I love the health benefits of sourdough, but mostly I love the organoleptic experience (it involves the use of all of our senses) involved in making sourdough. Wild yeast in the starter used to make sourdough is incredibly beneficial to our gut and when the bread is long fermented, it offers a reduced gluten load, making digestion easier to anyone who may have a gluten sensitivity.
