📌 Bal Bach, Lord Hereford's Knob (Twmpa), Hay Bluff, Hatterrall Ridge, Offa's Dyke - Bannau Brycheiniog National Park 📆 06/05/2024 👣 16.66 miles ⏱ 8 hours What a day! I finally got to do Lord Hereford's Knob! 👀 It's hard to believe that it started off with beautiful sunny weather and then walking into fog, heavy rain and what felt like a scene from Silent Hill! The walk was originally supposed to be 18 miles, but due to how badly the weather turned and time was getting on, we had to take a shortcut. I ended up with terrible blisters only 2 miles into the hike, which meant once I patched them up, I basically had to push through the rest of the hike in agony 😅 I blame the socks! Poor Buck was freezing his tinkle off, so Rob had to run back to the car towards the end to get the dogs warm and dry! There’s no better place in Britain to see how castles gradually evolved to cope with ever more destructive weaponry – and the grandiose ambitions of their owners. For more than six centuries Chepstow was home to some of the wealthiest and most powerful men of the medieval and Tudor ages. Building was started in 1067 by Earl William fitz Osbern, close friend of William the Conqueror, making it one of the first Norman strongholds in Wales. In turn William Marshal (Earl of Pembroke), Roger Bigod (Earl of Norfolk) and Charles Somerset (Earl of Worcester) all made their mark before the castle declined after the Civil War. These magnates and power-brokers were constantly on the move. Another day another fantastic light house located off the incredible Welsh coast! South stack boasts its position on an island, off an island, off another island… yes even thought it’s on the Isle of Anglesey it’s located on Holy island which is technically a separate island again and then the lighthouse is on a small islet just off this dramatic coastline! Have you ever been?
