Movie : Memento (2000) Director: Cristopher Nolan My RATING: (08/10) Characters: “Memento” is the story of Leonard, who tries to find his wife’s killer and the person responsible for his short-term memory loss. The reason Leonard’s character is so great is because he is a very unreliable narrator. The audience can never trust him because of his situation and the people he influences. These people are both Natalie and Teddy. Natalie is a well-written character, as the story progresses we find out that her intentions are not so innocent and she is not as she seems. Teddy is actually Leonard’s only friend, throughout the movie we see Teddy constantly giving advice to Leonard but for some reason he never trusts her. Writing/Directing: In Christopher Nolan's first film, he has shown just how talented he really is. The way Nolan has directed this film is truly one of the most creative efforts in film history. Nolan has made a very confusing film easy to watch by using black on white to convey time differences, subtle color differences, and even more subtle context clues. What makes this film special and unique is its strange inverted plot. The beginning of the film is the actual chronological end of the story and the events of the story happen in reverse. Acting: Guy Pearce stars as Leonard and his supporting cast is Carrie-Ann Moss as Natalie and Joe Pantoliano. Pearce gives a career performance as the troubled Leonard and he shows how much of a great actor he can be with the right script. Moss gives an expectedly good performance as the twisted Natalie. But the true standout is Pantoliano as Teddy. In conclusion, this is a good movie. #dumbmoney was a big surprise. The story is based on real-life events. Keith Gill battled Wall Street to make Game Stop a very valuable company. Apart from all the cussing, I would say it is quite informative, fun, and interesting. Makes you wonder how much of the market has been 'gamed'. This was a good watch. The cast were on point. While not remotely as good as the original, I think Robo 2 has actually aged decently and is a bit underrated. It has a very promising first act that sets up an interesting subplot of Murphy checking on his wife and kid, but that never gets explored/developed. It gets dropped in favor of robot action and violence, and essentially becomes just an action movie. It’s fun, but it lacks the existential drama, satire, and the humor is more juvenile. Verhoeven’s direction is very sorely missed. But even with the drop in quality after the first act, you do have the OCP boardroom scenes where they talk of sanitizing their Robo creation to make him more family-friendly, which may have been a thinly-veiled jab at Orion development meeting. So yesterday, I asked you all what you thought the scariest Vampire movie ever made was. To be fair, I didn’t ask “Best” because I’m sure we all have different ideas on how and what a Vampire movie should entail. So, I’m going to share one of my favorites and also one of the scariest IMO, as it has that Romero detail that makes you think that this could actually happen. Todays afternoon watch is a revisit to Martin Written and Directed by George A. Romero and premiered in 1977 this overlooked classic is a suspenseful yet rewarding tale of Vampirism or is it? I’d highly suggest checking it out if you’re into Romero or very detailed and intriguing storytelling. This has recently been released on 4K and I can’t wait to watch it fully restored. Voyage of the Rock Aliens (1984) Directed by James Fargo Watched: 18/04/2024 Rating: 8.5/10 I love movies that feel almost like feature-length music videos, and Voyage of the Rock Aliens kind of feels like one (1984's Electric Dreams also qualifies; also from 1984 is Streets of Fire, which doesn't feel like one long music video necessarily, but did scratch the same bombastic itch Voyage of the Rock Aliens did). It's a musical with a particularly large amount of music, and even if it features a decent number of its best songs early on (so many musicals seem to), I think it kept the energy at a good level for the rest of the movie. It's silly, madcap, chaotic, but also kind of charming, by the end of it all. It's not the sort of thing that'd be for everyone, but it was for me. It's much better than you'd expect a movie called Voyage of the Rock Aliens to be, and there were at least half-a-dozen songs in here that are going to be on heavy rotation for me in the coming weeks, possibly even months. I also don't know if I can show this to anyone who'll enjoy it, but I think I'll return to it in any event sooner rather than later. It's an acquired taste, it's messy, and sometimes I felt like I was laughing at it rather than with it (mostly just at the "Nature of the Beast" scene - that was insane), but like I said, it was strangely endearing by the time everything concluded. Narratively, it's impressive how it kind of gets by without traditional heroes and villains... like, no joke. The characters aren't deep, but they are used well. There are also a few moments where it feels like a tacky/poorly-aged joke is about to be made, but much of the time, it didn't really push the mean-spiritedness you might expect a 40-year-old movie to. I think, in that ways and a few others, Voyage of the Rock Aliens has aged surprisingly well, all the while completely being a kitschy product of its time. This was such a wholesome story about love, grief, memories, and relationships. A few days ago, it was raining in the morning. After a long winter, it rained after so long, and it made me happy to want to watch something. Thankfully, I didn't have much to do that day, so I was able to pick this movie. I had seen a few edits of this movie on Pinterest, which made me interested in knowing the story. Most of the time, I feel easily distracted while watching movies, but this time I watched the movie thoroughly in one sitting 😅.It felt slow at times, but a lot of things happened too, which was perfect for a cloudy weather. It was warm and comforting. The story was about waiting, and while waiting, you go through a process of growing. It also showed me how important it is to follow your passion. There's nothing wrong with not having a clear ambition or goal. The most important thing is not following others' goals and getting lost in others' dreams while trying to copy them. Most of the characters in this movie didn't have any clear, or I would say, rich goal in their life. They wanted to keep on doing what they enjoy, and they are completely happy and satisfied with that. While there are contents that showcase characters with big goals and becoming successful in a way society views, it's also important to realize that it's totally fine if you live a simple life. I don't understand what's wrong with wanting to live a simple, stress-free life. I totally loved this movie and how it was simple yet beautiful. I want to watch more content like this where they emphasize simplicity over a busy and hectic life, where you want to be like the characters, and where the story has the power to calm your mind and remind you to take a step back and enjoy life.
