Giant sequoia trees are the largest trees by volume in the world. Many giant sequoias are between 250 and 300 feet tall, the tallest being about 325 feet high. While their height is impressive, the real wonder of a giant sequoia lies in its bulk Impressive right? #seqouianationalpark #seqouiakingscanyonnationalpark #sequoianps #california #californiaadventure #californianps #natgeotravelpic #natgeo #natgeotravel #usa_travel #usaroadtrip #usanps #usanature #usanationalparks @explore.the.usa

Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are perfect for the creation of dunes, and while individual grains move, and ripples form, the dune field remains. These dunes are named for the mesquite tree which grows in abundance in the area. The trees must twist and grow to avoid being buried, and leafless brown trunks are often exposed by the shifting sands. #deathvalleynationalpark #deathvalley #californianps #california #californiaadventure #california @exploreus.ca #usaroadtrip #usanps #usa_travel #usanature #usanationalparks #usatravel

Death Valley is a land of extremes as the hottest, driest, and lowest-elevation national park. Death Valley is the driest place in North America, with some areas receiving less than two inches of rain per year, and is the location of the highest temperature (134 °F on July 10, 1913) ever recorded in the United States. Even though it's least rained area we were unlucky to be at this place on a rainy day!I wish we hit this place on normal weather to enjoy the best. #deathvalley #deathvalleynationalpark #deathvalleynps #california #californianps

First trip of the year, and happy to report it was a good one. Nothing quite like setting up camp at the base of a dune for a few days and seeing what happens. Third trip out to Death Valley National Park but first time visiting this particular remote dune. Outside of a drone flying overhead for a few minutes (😡), we didn’t see another soul for the entire excursion. The dunes were pristine — not a footprint in sight, especially after an insane windstorm cleared the slate the night before our sunrise hike. This image is one of my favorites — that white sand in the morning glow felt so clean and reminded me of rolling waves. HOW TO FEEL SMALL in this big beautiful world: Step 1) Visit the Sequoias. Step 2) Feel small. Step 3) Repeat as desired. 🤓 But seriously... it's simply impossible to visit Sequoia National Park and not realize just how little space we as individuals occupy in this world. These trees are SO tall... SO old (some over 3,000 years!)... and so strong that you will feel beautifully insignificant to this giant earth. 🌎 ❤ Want to learn more? ➳ Let's talk SEQUOIAS 🌳 and FIRE. 🔥 ➳ Did you know that fire - to a certain extent - is actually good and necessary for the life of a Sequoia tree? ➳ Pinecones full of seeds grow near the top of the trees, and without fire or insects to crack the cone open, the seeds would stay trapped inside. Fire dries out the cones, which allows them to crack open and their seeds fall to the forest floor. ➳ At the same time, loads of dry leaves, bark, and debris fall around the Sequoia trees' bases and prevents falling seeds from reaching the soil. Fire clears the forest floor, and allows the seeds to take root.       ➳ Only a small percentage of seeds ever reach adulthood. But those that do can live for more than 3,000 years. ➳ Drop me a 🌳🔥 if you learned something new!! #sequoia #californiaparks #californianps #hikesoutherncalifornia #hikeca #lahikers #hikersofinstagram #canationalparks #socal #womenwhohike #idhikethat #hikingbangers #california #sequoianationalpark #thisrareearth #lostcreators #sequoianps #calparks #visitcalifornia #visitvisalia #visittheusa #visitlosangeles #sequoiaandkingscanyon #sequoiatrees #congresstrail #generalsherman #nps #iflnps #girlgetoutside #nationalparks

➳ Oh, Sequoia National Park! 🌳 How do I love thee? Let me count the ways! 1️⃣ You sure are an impressive bunch! Some of the largest trees in the world live here. Sometimes this means by height, sometimes this means by volume, and sometimes this means by width. 💫 2️⃣ You sure look good for your age! Some of these trees exceed 3,000 years old! Can you even comprehend all that they've seen in their lives? I sure can't! 🤯 3️⃣ Well weren't you a trendsetter? Sequoia was the first park created to protect a living organism. ♻️ 4️⃣ You've sure stayed wild. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks span across 1,353 square miles -- and over 95% of those acres is designated wilderness. 🦌 5️⃣ And, you're an extrovert. With over 800 miles of trails winding through the land, you're just begging us to come hang out. 🥾 6️⃣ You like to keep it interesting! The elevation ranges anywhere from 1,300 feet to 14,494 feet high. Such a large range in elevation creates a huge diversity of plant life, ecosystems, temperatures, and animals. 🌱 ➳ This was not my first visit to Sequoia, but it was certainly the most fun! Me and Dana spent the days hugging trees, learning about the ecosystem, gazing up at giant Sequoias and barely scratching the surface of the many miles of trails. ➳ Until next time Sequoia! SO good to see you thrive! ✌ 🙏 #sequoia #sequoianationalpark #sequoianps #visitcalifornia #hikecalifornia #californiahiking #sequoiaandkingscanyon #earthday #hugatree #iflnps #visittheusa #thegreatputdoors #thisrareearth #lostcreators #comeawaywithme #socalhikers #hikesoutherncalifornia #hikersofinstagram #nps #sequoiatrees #sequoiakingsnps #californianps #treehuggers #idhikethat #socalhikes #socal #socalhikers #explorethewild #keepitwild #congresstrail

The best part about calling California home is the opportunity for year-round explorations. As the weather turns frigid here in Montana, I’m thinking back to the optimal temps this time of year in places like Pinnacles National Park. While you could explore the entirety of the park in a matter of days, it doesn’t lack in uniqueness, especially during the fall months when the chaparral turns from green to gold and red. The summer months are scorching here so it was always a place I’d visit in late fall or early spring.

one of the favorite stops in Joshua Tree is Skull Rock. the formation began long time ago when rain drops accumulated in tiny depressions and started to erode the granite. As more rock eroded, more water accumulated leading to more erosion until as time passed, two hollowed-out eye sockets formed and the rock began to resemble a skull . the skull rock is located along the main East-West park road and is not hard to miss hoping to come back and take some astro shots as I didn’t have the opportunity last time we went . . . . . . . . . . . . #joshuatree #joshuatreenps #yournationalparksguude #californianps #visitjoshuatree #climbjoshuatree #usanationalparks #californiaadventure #travelusa #allaboutadventure #stayoutside #keepexploring #nature_perfection #landcapeshots #skullrock #skullrockjoshuatree

➳ DID YOU KNOW, Joshua Tree was only designated a National Park as recently as 1994?! ➳ It's such a unique place that it seems like it should have been protected long ago. So, why is it so special? 🤔 • The Joshua Tree requires a pretty specific elevation and environment to survive. 🌵 There are few places in the world that you can even find these guys. • Hours from both Los Angeles and San Diego, light pollution is kept to a minimum. 🌟 It's an official Dark Sky Park, meaning that the stargazing is UNREAL! • Fun activities include hiking, camping, rock climbing, photo ops, and stargazing, to name a few. 📷 • There are no showers within the park boundaries. 🙅🏼‍♀️ If you camp (which you should) be prepared to go au naturale! ➳ I have multiple articles about the Park, such as: how to spend one day here, where the best sunrise spots can be found, and what exactly a "Joshua Tree" is in the first place. ➳ LINK IN BIO! 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 / 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲! The largest fire in Joshua Tree National Park’s history. The sky was filled with smoke, roads and trails were closed and some campgrounds were evacuated. No one predicted or imagined its size. A typical holiday weekend turned into a hellish event that burned nearly 14,000 acres of slow growing California junipers, pinyon pines and Joshua trees. It is the largest fire in the park’s history. Joshua National Park has seen centuries of lightning caused fires. On May 27, 1999 a passing thunderstorm sparked four fires. High winds increased the flames and it reached 40 to 60-foot height. The fires’ spread was startling but firefighters prevailed in stopping the blaze. #joshuatreenationalpark #joshuatree #californianationalparks #californianps #theroadtripss

AN ENTIRE FREAKING YEAR! That’s how long it’s been since our last day in office before starting WFH and lockdown officially started. It’s been more than a year since we’ve - seen our parents and other family - hung out with friends except a few social distanced meetups - been on an airplane - gone outside of California - had anyone over at our house or gone to anyone’s place - went on any trips (except for one during the fall, just the two of us when restrictions eased up) - eaten at a restaurant Life certainly turned upside down, there have been rough times, and we put off big life plans. BUT seeing vaccine rollout pickup up pace is giving me so much hope and the light at the end of this long tunnel is finally visible! #oneyearofcovid

Keep a little fire burning. However small, however hidden - Cormac McCarthy . I got lucky and scored a day pass for Yosemite this week. So we popped over for a quick visit to experience the firefall! After almost 8 miles of walking around and scouring the park, finally found a spot and got this beautiful view. It was quite cloudy, which almost ruined the view but then a ray of light appeared and gave us this beauty. Have y’all heard the news?! A federal judge stated that it’s unconstitutional for the National Park Service to require permits/charge fees for commercial filming within the parks. This is H U G E. Though the case focused on video, there were some footnotes in the final brief regarding still photography, which means that this ruling may also apply to us photographers. In super broad sweeping layman’s terms, and please go watch @thelegalpaige’s IGTV about this bc shes a lawyer and can talk better about this, but to my understanding the judge said that the rules for requiring a permit were too broad and in general don’t make sense. Aka why should a videographer with a crew of one and a handheld camera have to pay the same permit price as a blockbuster film crew? On top of that you can’t say that that videographer is making the same environmental impact as a potential film crew of 15-30 people. Even more so, a non profit org doesn’t need a filming permit according to NP rules, so they could walk into a NP & film with a 30 person crew without needing a permit. So as of right now, filmmakers (and potentially photogs) are in the clear when it comes to needing a filming permit in a national park. The NPS still has 60 days to appeal the case, but I think moving forward we’re going to see some big changes when it comes to permitting in national parks and likely some more clear guidelines on who needs a permit and some new tiers of permitting. Ideally I’d love to have the permit process 100% online, pricing chopped in half and for the application process to take less than 1 week. So we shall see! Though I love the prospect of there no longer being permits, I do think they serve a role in maintaining and preserving our national parks, so it’s tough for me to see them go. I want to know your thoughts on this!! Let’s chat 👇🏼
