Wednesday workout!! This workout is great for pregnancy and postpartum or if you’re just trying to build up some glutes!! 3x12-15 reps bridges - keep core tight and push through the heels. Activate those glutes! 3x8-10 reps split stand deadlift with back foot against the wall. Keep the back neutral, and pushhhh those hips as far back as possible. Keep the knee right overtop the foot for more glutes or keep the knee more stiff for more hamstrings Then finish off with 3x15 reps of side plank leg lifts to really hit the glute medius and deep core. Keep the top knee bent to make it easier. This workout is short but effective! MEET CHELSEA! 💕 Chelsea and James were part of the first Post Natal Program of the year starting in January! Her little man, James, was only seven and a half weeks old and she was keen to get back into her training 🏋🏼‍♀️ Chelsea made great progress without rushing the process and has continued to train since the initial Program completed. Shoutout to these amazing mums + bubs! First up tempo run in 15 months! Progressive runs are a favourite of mine, the idea is that with each set distance you gradually increase your pace until you reach threshold. I fell out on the last km but man it felt good to get a bit of pace back in the legs 🙌🏼 I wouldn't recommend you progress pace until you've been back running regularly for a little bit, and you've been focusing on strengthening. 💪🏼 During pregnancy our bodies undergo a LOT of change to accommodate our growing baby, this includes changes to our core, pelvis, pelvic floor and ligaments so it's important you don't progress too quickly and definitely not before 12 weeks, and after your women's health physio assessment 💕 Do you want to get back to running safely? Hi everyone, I thought I would say hi 👋 I'm Caroline, a Swede in London, entrepreneur and mother of 3 (yes, I count the dog as my child too). Many of you know me as a mindset (NLP) coach and outdoor pre- and postnatal personal trainer. I set up my company Mamaste Fitness five years ago after a corporate career in sustainability amongst other things and I haven't looked back since. Last year I started coaching women on their perimenopause journey as I found that there were so many different issues that came up that could benefit from a supportive, knowledgeable and safe listening environment: anxiety and stress, hormonal upheaval, short-term memory problems, overwhelm, stubborn weight gain etc. As part of this, I've been doing further studies, including health coaching with the amazing @healthcoachesacademy and ADHD coaching with the fantastic @adhdworks . That's partly why you're seeing (or not) so many more posts about holistic health and neurodiversity on my feed. I've always been about holistic health and now I've finally found a way to embody it. As I 've learnt to work with my own ADHD rather than against it I've discovered that coaching others on this journey is incredibly rewarding and it pairs beautifully with health and mindset. I thank my Swedish upbringing for my love of the outdoors, exercise and sense of social justice, my ADHD for my bravery, honesty and passion and my hip dysplasia for teaching me to listen to my body and empathising with people with chronic pain. Hallo, ich bin Stephanie… Während meines Studiums im Jahr 2000 kam ich zum Yoga und es gab keinen Weg zurück. Sobald ich mein Studium beendet hatte, bin ich im Januar 2003 nach Indien und Südostasien gereist um dort meiner Leidenschaft zu folgen, so viel wie möglich über Yoga, Meditation, Ernährung, gesunden Lebensstil, Massagetechniken und Ayurveda zu lernen. Seit 2003 absolvierte ich verschiedene Yoga- und Massageausbildungen in Indien und Thailand, unter anderem Ayurvedische Yoga Massage, Tibetische Massage und Fußreflexzonenmassage. 2004 absolvierte ich meine erste Hatha Yogalehrerausbildung in Indien. Seitdem habe ich Yoga unterrichtet und verschiedene Massagetechniken praktiziert. 2004 verbrachte ich außerdem einige Zeit in zwei verschiedenen Klöstern, in einem buddhistischen Kloster in Thailand und einem im indischen Himalaya, in denen ich unter anderem jeweils ein zehntägiges Vipassana Meditation Retreat in Stille absolvierte. Nach jedem dieser Meditationsretreats beschloss ich zu bleiben und zu verlängern. Über die Jahre folgten verschiedene Ausbildungen weltweit als Personal Trainer, Entspannungstrainer, Vinyasa Yogalehrerin in Goa, Ayurveda Therapeutin bei einem Arzt aus Kerala, Prä- und Postnatalyoga in Deutschland, Österreich und Irland, Yoga Weiterbildungen unter anderem in Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga bei Sadie Nardini in New York und in Prana Vinyasa Yoga bei Shiva Rea in LA, einem Kurs bei dem bekannten New Yorker Ernährungsberater Manu Dawson, einer Raw Food Ausbildung in England und einem Diplom in Anatomie, Physiologie und Holistischer Massage an der London School of Massage. Seit 2006 begleite ich Frauen (und auch einige Männer;) zur besten Version ihrer Selbst - gesunde Gewohnheiten und einen gesunden Lebensstil zu schaffen. MEET AFFY 💕 From the first conversation with Affy, she was excited, super keen and committed instantly! After having had her second bub, Affy was keen to get her body moving again, but having been through it once before with challenges, wanted to ensure that she was looking after her body and rebuilding appropriately with guidance. She was a keen participant and soaked up all the information, mentioning a few times how surprised she was that she wasn’t already aware of a lot of the things we go over. After a short time she was impressed with how strong she felt and said it was ‘the best thing for me post partum, not only physically but emotionally’. Affy has returned to playing her fave sport 🏑 and hasn’t experienced any of the back pain she previously had, which is testament to her progression and patience with rebuilding steadily! FEBRUARY 2024 MUMS!! 🤩 Big congrats to our group of six new mums who last week completed the Post Natal Foundations Program to return them to exercise progressively and effectively!! 🙌🏼 We always begin with the foundations and the education behind it, with a strong focus on re-connecting with the core and pelvic floor through specific exercises, including everyday mum movements. As the program progresses we increase: > exercise selection > range > intensity > load > incorporate impact Mum life is a strength sport! 🏋🏼‍♀️ Consider the things mums are constantly carrying and loading in and out of cars - and it’s not just the kids. 🤩 The goal is to get you strong, and keep you injury free IN and most importantly OUT, of the gym as your children grow and get heavier and more active! We incorporate prep moves for impact, with the goal to be symptom free and comfortable when returning to running, sports and other higher impact activities if they choose. And chasing after your toddler is running 🏃🏼‍♀️ All of these mums made great progress for their individual needs, with the understanding of their bodies and limitations as they move forward with their training. 9 months in vs. 9 months out. So much has changed since this first photo was taken. In my body, in my mind, in my heart… Postpartum is no walk in the park, and adding kiddo number two to the mix was a challenging transition for me, so to anyone who might be in the thick of it, here is your reminder that it does get better. With time. I am finally starting to feel a little more like myself after having two babies in 2 years and moving states 3 times since June of 2020 😳🫠. I feel as though I’ve been in a constant state of change and transition and pivoting and adapting and regrouping and NOW, I am ready to settle into this new version of myself. The same old me, but also different. I have a newfound respect for my body and what it is capable of. The amount of change it’s been through and how much of a practice it has been to accept each stage, especially throughout pregnancy & postpartum. Movement has always been my source of medicine and keeping my body moving, in ways that felt safe and GOOD internally, helped me to feel a little more calm, grounded and steady throughout the last few years. A shout out to the Empower by E.M. community - I am forever grateful to anyone who has ever stepped into one of my private sessions or group classes and has put their trust in me as their movement guide. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 To these amazing mums who are our first graduates for 2024 of the Post Natal ‘Return to Exercise’ Foundations Program!! 🙏🏼 Our youngest bub was six weeks old and the oldest at five months, and the mums came from varying pre-pregnancy exercise history, pregnancy and birth experiences. We always begin with the foundations and the education behind it, when returning to exercise post partum with a strong focus on re-connecting with the core and pelvic floor through specific exercises. As the program progresses we increase: > exercise selection > range > intensity > load We incorporate prep moves for impact, with the goal to be symptom and pain free when returning to running, sports and other higher impact activities if they choose! And chasing after your toddler is running 😉 Along the way always going through our ‘Checks and Changes’ - checking in with their bodies - breathing, posture, form, red flags - and changing if required. All of these mums made incredible progress for their individual needs, with the understanding of their bodies and limitations as they move forward with their training. Eine Frage die immer noch auf kommt. Die Antwort ist ganz klar. Grundsätzlich ist Sport wichtig und gut. Jetzt kommt es etwas natürlich auch auf das wie an. Wenn du in Kursformate gehst die extra für schwangere Frauen gemacht sind, dann sind die Übungen dem entsprechend angepasst. Da fallen mir natürlich das Präkanga, Pilates, MamaWORKOUT mit Babybauch und Yoga für Schwanger ein. Gut sind Kursformate in denen auch schon der Beckenboden aktiviert wird, aber eben auch entspannt. So wirst du auf die Geburt und dann auch für hinterher für die Rückbildung vorbereitet. Ansonsten ist es immer wichtig, wenn du auf dein Gefühl hörst. Hast du so gar keine Lust dann lass es. Hast du Lust mach es und spüre in dich rein was tut mir gut und was nicht. Meine Tipps: 1.Die geraden Bauchmuskeln dürfen nicht mehr trainiert werden. 2.Alle Bewegungen mit zu viel Zug auf die Symphyse sind nicht gut z.b. Sitekicks. 3. Ich würde alles mit einem erhöhten Verletzungsrisiko vermeiden, da in der Schwangerschaft nur konservative Therapien möglich sind. 4. Alles bei dem du langfristig in einer Sauerstoffschuld bist. D.h. intensives Ausdauertraining ist nicht geeignet. Wie ging/geht es dir in der Schwangerschaft? Machst/Hast du Sport gemacht? Und wenn ja welchen? Wie fühlst du dich dabei? MEET KYLA!! 💕 Kyla is a mum of two and joined the ‘Return to Exercise’ Post Natal Program last August after the birth of her second baby, Cooper. Kyla is a qualified Pilates instructor, and with her Pilates background, had a very strong awareness of her core and posture. She hadn’t been in a strength training environment before however, so it was something very new to her. She suffers from migraines and found weights would trigger them at times. However with a steady introduction and managing the loads progressively, she has thrived! Her form has always been perfect and as well as all the other benefits or regular training, she has found her migraines have almost ceased altogether!! Shortest month of the year yet filled with some many wins… thank you February 💕 Started the month off by assessing what areas in my life aligned with who I am + where I want to go so I took the leap and started offering in-home personal training vs at a gym and I am SO happy I did !! Having more control over my time (and who I allow to occupy my time) was so needed. -PROTEIN- Protein is a pretty awesome macronutrient. Trying to to build muscle? Healing after an injury? Pregnant and growing a human? Healing after birth? Trying to lose weight? Making sure you aren't starving by 10am? Protein can help with all of these. What does it do? Growth and repair. Proteins are the main building blocks of our body. Trying to build muscle, grow a baby or heal an injury? Your protein needs are going to be higher than someone who isn't. Protein and satiety Protein helps you feel full (or satiated). Studies show that meals higher in protein will make you feel fuller. A calorie of protein will leave you more satisfied than a calorie of fat or carbohydrate. If you're trying to lose weight or struggling with being hungry not long after eating try and get a bit of protein in each meal/snack throughout the day. How much do we need? Between 0.8g-1.8g/kg of bodyweight. Depending on your activity level and build. Not into measuring out your food and logging it in detail? Me neither. Keep it simple - just try and get some in each meal. I really notice the difference if I have a breakfast that is high in protein - no stomach rumblings by 10am! Great protein sources Meat, fish, eggs, dairy, seeds and nuts, legumes and pulses such as lentils and beans, tofu, quorn. Do I need protein shakes to supplement my diet? You should be able to satisfy all your protein needs from the food you take in - however sometimes a protein shake can be an easy way to get a bit more protein in. For example: As a vegetarian who likes the gym and doesn't really like eggs (and should avoid beans and pulses for the sake of those around me) I find that even when making a real effort to plan meals that are high in protein I can struggle. For me a protein shake is an easy and quick way to add a bit more protein in. Got a protein question? MEET ZARA!!! Zara is a recent graduate of our Post Natal Program, taking part in November for six weeks! Zara wasn’t a first-time mumma, in fact, her little Maci was her fourth child. Fitness has been a big part of her life, for many many years, and she was keen to get back into it again after having Maci. Upon meeting Zara, she was an absolute ray of sunshine - so bubbly and friendly with her beautiful big smile! She fast became friends with all the mums in the program. 💕 Zara’s feedback along the way was that she had never been shown how to activate and strengthen her core and pelvic floor before and after her four children, knew this was of huge importance for the training she wanted to continue with in the future. She progressed so much during the program and is continuing to train feeling strong, and knowing she’s done the inner work to support her training.
