4th March VS 30th April For someone who struggles with body dismorphia I look at these and struggle to see a difference. Like I see it, but I don't see it 😕 Looking back as an adult and remembering comments from family saying "you eat too much" "you need to exercise" "you're too fat" "I'm skinnier than you" "I'll never be fat like you" Island kid problems 😅 I know that no ill will was intended 100% buuuuut they are the type of comments that create this mindset that I now have as an adult when looking at my body in the mirror. But I'm reminding myself that although I may be overweight I HAVE fat, I can lose that I can also eat too much, but I need to make up for it and move my body I count my blessings that I can physically move my body every single day, some people aren't as fortunate My body has also homed 3 babies and some mummas struggle with weight gain afterwards It's sad that it takes becoming an adult to understand these things. Almost ready for my holiday I cannot wait to have a break it’s been over 10 years since I’ve been on a plane and left the UK.. 🇿🇦 here I come 😝😝😝 Now I have been thinking this would also be a great opportunity to show you all how you can still have the cake and literally eat it, still enjoy the break and keep active. Well I shall do my best as I’ve said it’s my first time away with my family in years so I’m gonna be overwhelmed myself. I’ll share as much as I can. Progress ✌🏼 Through all the gluten juggling, the lactose avoidance, the hormones , the PCOS, the wrangling of two girlies, the business, the housework, the husband and general chaos in my ADHD brain I forget that my little gym and running moments are not only doing wonders for my brain but I’m starting to notice a difference in my body again. I avoid scales like the plague..and From where I was 2 years ago I just need to give myself an Insta pat on the back for my consistent progress to be honest! Post wedding stress loss has crept back in & Still got lots of work to do and a half marathon to attempt sometime this year/ early 2025 but a little progress post never hurt nobody and I went up 5/10kg on my lifts myself today and that itself has made me Yay! ✨Client Spotlight✨ . . Wow! What a weekend with this absolute superstar! The standard at the first show with the incredible @pca_official was insane and my client @sjkeenan_ took a well deserved first place (and an invite to compete for Team GB 🇬🇧 at the PCA Universe) in a stacked category and was super super close to taking the overall (according to the judges, they were split on who it was and she narrowly missed the coveted 🗡️…next time!). . . Show number 2 we bought an even better look than the day before but unfortunately not the outcome we wanted as the judging panel were looking for a slightly different look (this is bodybuilding!) but we still took a respectable 4th and 2nd place so another good day at the office💪. . . Sarah’s been an absolute pleasure to coach. Prepping for a show is very very very hard. Especially getting correctly stage ready. You have to pull bodyfat percentage down to a levels the body doesn’t like or want and to do it with 2 kiddies, full time work and hubby (great support by the way @mr_keenan 👌) is no easy feat but she smashed it! What is the best exercise for weight loss? Nutrition…..it’s all about your diet. So many think that the more they do cardio and burn as many calories as possible is the only way to weight loss. Let me be real…the truth is not that simple. To be really honest the amount of calories burned during exercise isn’t enough. Let’s break this down a bit for you, your metabolism will slow down and store fat the more you workout and manage calorie intake. This happens because your metabolism wants to compensate by slowing down to maintain your current weight this is called metabolic compensation, it kicks in because it wants to preserve and store fat for future energy. This also happens when you decide to starve yourself for weight loss, your metabolism over compensates and stores fat as it is afraid when it will next get its source of energy. The body does this as it interprets a lack of calories as a sign of distress. Metabolic compensation is not the only thing to slow or prevent your weight loss, your hormones will increase your urges to eat. Fat cells produce leptin, which tells your brain when you’re full and fat cells shrink when you lose weight, producing less leptin, which means that you don’t feel as full. Your emotional health is also a factor and your genetics. So many reasons as to why you may be struggling with weight loss. So what the fck do I do then ? You ask me…. Some simple strategies, such as making protein a staple of your meals, having a structured and balanced meal plan suited to your needs. Start a weight loss routine with cardio before switching to weight training and resistance later on, this can help support your weight loss goals.focus on small, achievable lifestyle goals for your emotional health during your weight loss journey. For example, instead of looking for that number on the scale, focus on reaching a point where you feel comfortable to level up your training program. Aim for realistic goals and this will always help your efforts to your goal. In general I would suggest not to go for the diet labelled foods, you need fat to fuel just like protein, most of diet labelled foods are often actually higher in sugars.

“Joining maxout30 has been brilliant. I love and hate the workouts in equal measures but I LOVE how I feel afterwards and always proud of myself for getting up and getting it done. Some days I enjoy the whole workout 😂.James changes them and it is never boring! James makes you feel capable and is really encouraging, I even brought some 10kg dumbells but I can only use them for squats so far , I am excited to build up to them. I joined the community as I work full time, am a busy mum and the last couple of years ive found it hard to fit in and prioritise exercise. On top of that, life for me has been going through one of those stages where there had been a lot of stress, grief and uncertainty which has contributed to me having a lack of energy and motivation, turning to rubbish food and not moving enough. Not looking after myself. I am trying to change that and use James’ guidance, encouragement to make wiser food choices and to get up and get the workout done before I start work. About a year ago I started a bit of a plan to have more fun after a huge amount of reflection led me to the glaringly obvious conclusion that for a health & fitness coach who promotes balance, I wasn’t living a very balanced life. It’s taken me time to unpick habits of overworking that started at school & really came to a head when I was knee deep in avoiding my grief from our son’s death. Lots of things were going on for me, & my routines around work were keeping me feeling safe. But they were also stopping me from living my life. Though of course I didn’t know it. I saw @holliepoetry perform a few nights ago & she spoke about the way people talk about days that are supposed to be the happiest days of your life. The day you get married, the day you have a child. The reality is, & I agree with @holliepoetry on this, I think we’re living them now. I think *these* are some of the best days for us. Not those hard hard years when Kitty was so tiny when I couldn’t think straight, let alone feel. When I was scared to death of doing things wrong with this tiny person. Not the sunny lockdown years that I hated because they felt like loss all over again. Not when I was working 60/70 hour weeks establishing my business. After I burnout 2 years ago, I’ve done a lot of intentional work… & now I feel like I’m living my life again, not just observing it. In the last year I’ve drastically changed how I work & my relationship with my work, got my first tattoo, joined a Choir, met Father Christmas, done some gardening, started an imperfect podcast, relearnt to snowboard, got my first pull up, attended a meditation retreat, done a photo shoot & this weekend learnt how to ride a mountain bike. I’ve started doing things that I wanted to do but was scared to do. Maybe because I didn’t think that ‘someone like me’ did them. I’m suddenly hugely aware of all the time I *haven’t* got. I’m aware of the paused years. It’s a new part of grief after losing Jim. I think. This was our Easter 🌞

And we can’t not put them side by side from last years show 😎 Clare stepped off stage in July 2023 where she competed for the first time at the Manchester show, she came off stage feeling like she hadn’t achieved what she set out to do. So after some very very long conversations and discussions we agreed that we would go into a short building phase before jumping back into prep. Even though Clare only had a short off season, we still managed to bring up the delts, the back and glutes. Clare is now going into a MASSIVE off season where she will be having at LEAST 12 months to grow before considering getting back on stage. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮…⁣ ⁣ The perfect plan doesn’t exist ⁣ ⁣ 100% on it isn’t realistic⁣ ⁣ This is something I’ve learned as I’ve got older and even more so now I have a family myself ⁣ ⁣ One of my clients this weekend said to me he likes that I understand real life ⁣ ⁣ Other coaches he had worked with wanted him to be 100% on it at all times ⁣ ⁣ The thing is that might work when your in your early 20s⁣ ⁣ I used to go to the gym 6 times a week for 90mins at a time plus the 20 min drive each way⁣ ⁣ I’d hit my 10k steps everyday ⁣ ⁣ I’d have football all day on a Saturday ⁣ ⁣ I ate on plan all the time and would dread going out for meals because I wasn’t sure what I could have that would keep me on plan ⁣ ⁣ I think I even walked on the treadmill once for an extra 200 calories so I could have a pint of Guiness at the pub that night 🤦🏻‍♂️⁣ ⁣ Fast forward to now and I still love training ⁣ ⁣ I love staying fit and staying in shape but it doesn’t consume my life anymore⁣ ⁣ It still is my life and always will be but I have balance⁣ It improves my life rather than consuming it ⁣ With a family now⁣ i don’t have the time to be in the gym for 90 mins 6 times a week let alone spend an hour travelling to and from the gym ⁣ ⁣ I like eating dinner at night with Lauren and I can’t say no to a cake or a brownie when I come across one ⁣ ⁣ But this doesn’t mean my standards or my fittest has dropped ⁣ ⁣ It doesn’t mean I’ve let my physique go either⁣ ⁣ When I do have a specific goal or event I make sure the work gets done to get me ready for it ⁣ ⁣ That’s because it’s what you do the majority of the time that gets you progress and results⁣ ⁣ It’s what you can sustain for a prolonged period of time that gets you to your goals ⁣ ⁣ Consistently good beats occasionally perfect⁣ ⁣ Yes there will be times when you need to be that bit more focused, if you have a specific goal coming up ⁣ ⁣ But then there are times when you can relax like holidays and meals out with your family ⁣ ⁣ Remember fitness is there to improve your life and your families life not make it feel like a prison sentence ⁣ ⁣ Be built for anything ⁣ ⁣ 🧱⁣ ⁣ ⁣

I know it’s a big mindset shift for some women but if you can focus on building muscle and losing body fat instead of just weight loss and scale numbers amazing things will happen. You maybe not go down on the scales but your body will change dramatically. Our weight can fluctuate from day to day and often leave us feeling deflated so try to keep ( if you must) weighing yourself to monthly. Pictures and measurements are so much better for seeing progress. Lowerbody looked a little like this today ⬇️ A1: Barbell squats: 2 x warm up sets 10-12 reps > 3 working sets 5 reps PLUS a set on 100kg to test the water.. managed 2 reps which I’m happy with considering it’s been nearly 2 years since I’ve had that weight on my back 👶🏼 B1: Smith machine sumo squats: 4 x 10 reps - 5 bottom range > 5 full range 🤮 SUPERSET WITH B2: Bulgarian split squats: 4 x 5 reps - tempo focused 4/1/10 - 4 seconds on the eccentric with a pause before a big drive up (felt my soul leave my body) C1: Hamstring curls: 2 x 21 reps - 7 reps at bottom range > 7 reps at top range > 7 reps full range SUPERSET WITH C2: Leg extensions: 2 x 21 reps - 7 reps at bottom range > 7 reps at top range > 7 reps full range I look like I hate life but I actually enjoyed this session 🙃😂 @kinggymfalmouth

5 days out from competing in @deka.australia.nz.fiji and I'm absolutely shitting myself 😂 it's one of those moments where I'm thinking "It was a good idea at the time" but I'm committed to seeing it through. Alot of these functional fitness comps people do for time or for the W but for me it's the accomplishment, the feeling that I committed to something I have never done before and successfully completing it anything else on top of that would be a bonus. Two weeks no exercise and eating and drinking what I want. A few years ago the anxiety about this would have been all consuming. Now I know my body well enough to know it doesn’t matter.
