Hey guys, just want to share a super easy meal idea. Beef cheeks and rice Mexican bowl. So easy whether you’re counting macros or not. I had the beef cheeks in the slow cooker doing there thing, then just added some lettuce, cucumber & corn to my rice then the beef cheeks! I use @mingleseasoning taco mix for the Mexican feel. I had never made gnocchi until last year because it sounded so intimidating, but since finally going for it, it has become a regular in our home because it is actually so simple! Pair with pasta sauce and beef, pesto and chicken, or add to your favorite soup! In my cookbook, I have a soup recipe and a sheet pan chicken dish featuring gnocchi - and if I had to pick a personal favorite recipe from the book, I would say the gnocchi soup would be a top contender! SOURDOUGH GNOCCHI 2 russet potatoes, peeled & cubed 1 cup flour 80g active starter 1 egg Boil potatoes until VERY soft so you don’t have lumps. Mash smooth, and then add remaining ingredients. Knead while adding additional flour as needed. You want a smooth dough with minimal stickiness. Cover and set on counter for a couple hours. Taking a small amount at a time, roll into a “snake” and cut into half inch chunks. Bring heavily salted water to a boil and add gnocchi for about 5 minutes - they will float when ready! If you want to omit the sourdough, just adjust flour as needed to get a smooth dough. I like to make a double batch and freeze the extra for future use. Once you have them cut, lay them on a sheet pan with parchment paper and make sure they aren’t touching. Spring has sprung and I’m feeling back in my flow. My postpartum meals have dwindled from the freezer and I’m back in the kitchen making all the things for us. As most of you know I tend to be an intuitive eater, but I will not throw out my knowledge on HOW to make all the foods I feel like eating better for my body. I really do think there are seasons for everything in a way and the climate you live in will largely dictate what your body needs and what you should eat. We have been craving lots of light foods with the warmer weather and are totally listening to the call to include more well cooked veggies and fresh herbs into our meals. We usually cycle off heavy starch meals in the spring and summer and this just feels natural as fruit also becomes more abundant. We are not completely off sourdough but I’m likely going to be making baked goods instead of a loaf a week, since most of our meals will be containing fruit instead of starch. As we are fresh into the New Year, I know that it is normal to start making goals for weight loss. So if you've made some goals to lose weight and hit the gym every day, but are starting to fall off the wagon and feel discouraged. I just want to encourage you! But I want to encourage you to prioritize your health over a number on the scale. If you do, it will stick long term. I say this from experience and do not want you to make the same mistakes I made. I prioritized that “magic number” for so many years and yes I did achieve that number, but it only brought more health issues. I had not only lost weight, I had actually deprived my body from so many nutrients. I truly did believe I was making healthier choices by eating less even if if my body was crying out for more food, by working out even if my body was crying out for rest. I believed I was becoming healthier because the number on the scale was going down. Don’t get me wrong, having the goal to lose weight did help me eat less processed foods which in turn did make me a bit healthier in some way. BUT… what actually did not change or got worse was that I was always bloated I did not have regular bowel movements I suffered with headaches daily & I had low energy I had no idea that my body was depleted, stressed , and crying out for help. I actually needed nourishment and rest. In charge of the food this holiday?! We’re here to help 🤓 these recipes are honestly all pretty simple but packed full of rich taste & nutrients. You won’t be left slaving away in the kitchen all day if you follow a good prep schedule — Night before / make dinner roll & cupcake initial sourdough mix + brine pork chops or meat of choice 5 hours before meal - - mix cupcake batter, bake, allow to cool - allow cream cheese & butter to sit at room temp 4 hours before meal - - divide dinner rolls, let rise - boil mushrooms for green beans if not prepped - start prepping potato and apple dishes (chop, peel) - whip cream cheese, pipe onto cooled cupcakes - set cupcakes aside, covered 3 hours before meal - - bake apple dish (~1 hour) - let pork chops sit out at room temp 2-1 hours before meal - - cook potato dish (-45 min) - prepare green bean dish (~30 min) - when apples are finished, broil potato dish 30 min before meal - - bake dinner rolls - start sautéing pork chops Keep apple, potato, & green bean dishes warm in oven on low, covered, until ready to serve. Let chops rest for 5 min before cutting against the grain. Allow dinner rolls to cool slightly before serving. Parents you know this is a must with kiddos 🤣. Why not do the same for yourself? My kiddo eats what we eat. Say "No thank you" to the pufa rich peanuts bag + iron laden pretzels on your next flight 👍⁣.⁣ ⁣⁣ 2️⃣ Research : Do some research before your trip so you can scout nearby local health food stores, healthy restaurant spots to hit up. NUTRIENT DENSE KID FOODS⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ i throw around the phrase "nutrient dense" a lot. what i mean is food that give the most nutrient bang for its calorie buck. i'm looking for vitamins and minerals in the MOST bioavailable (or easily usable by the body) form. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ many of us think of vegetables as the most nutritious food on the planet BUT they have barely any calories in them which makes it HARD to eat the amounts required to get many nutrients in. also, most vegetables (besides the "fruit and root" vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, carrots, radishes, beets, onions, squash, potatoes, and eggplant, among others) have anti-nutrients in them that actually take nutrients AWAY from your body!!! YIKES. on top of that, they are pretty hard to digest unless they are really, really well cooked. on top of that, the bitter flavors are biologically unpalatable to children! no wonder we have a hard time getting kiddos to "eat their vegetables."⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ i'm not as extreme as saying my kids don't need veggies. we eat them regularly! it's just not my MAIN focus in their diet. i'm wanting to give them high calorie, super easily digestible, nutrient dense foods of the absolute highest quality! they are still getting allllll of those yummy vitamins and minerals, but also some solid protein, fats, and carbs to back it up and fuel their bodies for the hard work of GROWING. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #prometabolicnutrition #prometabolickids #prometabolicmeals #prometabolicfoods #prometabolicfamilies #prometabolic

✨ Your Breakfast Sets The Tone For Rest Of Your Day. ✨⁣ ⁣ Is breakfast the most important meal of the day? 🤔⁣ ⁣ IMO yes it is. Why is that you ask?⁣ ⁣ Well if we start by looking at the word - breakfast is literally means to break fast. ⁣ ⁣ When we eat breakfast we are essentially breaking our 7-9 hour fast (depending on how long we have slept for and when we decide to take our first bite of food).⁣ ⁣ I've written about how prolonged and chronic fasting is stressful to the body #1 and also how food is the #1 way we can lower stress in the body.⁣ ⁣ When we wake up our metabolism is at it's lowest point and our stress hormones are at their highest, not to mention we are in a very depleted state in the a.m.⁣ ⁣ So how exactly can a balanced, satiating, and appropriately dense breakfast set the tone for the rest of your day?⁣ ⁣ ✨ Your blood sugar is balanced.⁣ ✨ Your body's replenished of nutrients.⁣ ✨ Energy rises steadily and is consistent. ⁣ ✨ Brain fucntion is better (yay carbs!)⁣ ✨ Your stress hormones go ⬇️.⁣ ✨ You no longer in a catabolic state.⁣ ✨ Your metabolism is ignited 🔥.⁣ ✨ Liver glycogen stores will replenish.⁣ ✨ Appetite and digestion improve.⁣ ✨ Your body gets rehydrated.⁣ ✨ Your mood improves.⁣ ⁣ If your appetite is non existent or very low this is a sign of stress folks. ARE YOU RUNNING ON EMPTY? ⁣🤔⁣ ⁣⁣ Under eating is an issue often overlooked when it comes to health. ⁣You don't expect your phone to work with out charging it right? Then why would you expect your body to fucntion optimally running off of fumes?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Contrary to what you've been told "diets" don't work and they sure as hell are not sustainable. ⁣⁣When you go on yo yo diets, restrict, go low carb, keto, fast, and workout more you're creating a short term solution to lose a few pounds. ⁣ ⁣ Under eating eventually backfires creating more issues down the road like more weight gain, and you guessed it DIGESTIVE ISSUES + A TRASHED METABOLISM 😫⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You see when you drastically restrict your calories you are essentially creating a stress in the body. When your body is in starvation mode it will adapt and use less energy to get its work done not to mention it will run off of stress hormones like cortisol. Hypocaloric diets tell your metabolism to slowwwww down in order to conserve it's energy. Without enough nutrients we can't create enough energy that is required for regular bodily functions let alone heal itself. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When your metabolism is healthy you can usually eat MORE and work out LESS and your body composition will balance out without much effort. There is always context of course peeps. If you're in a low metabolic state you first need to work on the foundations of repairing your metabolism before even thinking about weight loss. ⁣ ⁣ Wait what? Yup...⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You need to heal your metabolism first in order to lose weight and heal your digestion. Supply your body with ENOUGH of the proper nutrition to support it's needs and see what happens. Weight loss is not the definition of health! You need to eat and fuel your metabolism to thrive. Finding the right balance of calories, macronutrients, and movement is bioindividual. Stress Less About Food And Enjoy Your Thanksgiving 🥧⁣ ⁣ Oh the holidays! A lot of celebration is going on and it can bring so much joy but also a lot of stress for some people.⁣ ⁣ If you have a lot of gut issues, and food sensitivities it can make the holidays that much more stressful. ⁣ ⁣ So here 6️⃣ simple ways to keep the cheer and joy while ditching the stress of food during the holidays ⬇️⁣ ⁣ 🥧 Prepare! If you don't know what will be served and if you can have certain things that will be served at your get together then make your own plate of food and bring it along with you. Friends and family will understand that you have to eat a certain way to keep your tummy happy.⁣ ⁣ 🥧 Ask! Usually family and friends will know that you try to avoid certain foods for the sake of your tummy. Asking ahead of time what will be on the menu can save you the worry or stress of what to expect. This way you can figure out what you'll be ok having and what items you may want to pass on. ⁣ ⁣ 🥧 Pot luck! Ask to bring items that you can have if the menu contains items that don't agree with your body. Usually the more food the better and most people are really open to eating "healthier" or alternatives to common dishes.⁣ ⁣ 🥧 Digestive aids! If you can't bring your own food or don't want to then have the food at your get together but bring in digestive aids! Bitters, enzymes, and eating when relaxed will help with digestion and ease discomfort that may be brought on by any foods that don't sit well with you.⁣ ⁣ 🥧 Eat before you go to your gathering and fill up a bit before hand. You can just graze, snack, or eat a smaller plate/portion of food that will be served at your celebration. 🍳I like to incorporate raw egg yolk somewhere in my diet everyday. 🍳 . Today, I made a little egg nog by mixing two egg yolks with raw milk, vanilla, maple syrup, salt and pumpkin spice. . With the left over whites I made a frittata. I simply poured a little cream salt and pepper into the whites, beat them, poured them onto a pan and folded them up with grass fed cheddar. The sprouts and avocado made it taste extra good. Kinda like avocado toast without the toast 😆. . 3 important mid week reminders! It’s hump day!! And this usually means that everyone who has been on a low carb diet since Monday is starting to get hangry. So how do you avoid giving up mid week? 1️⃣ Just eat the damn carbs (balanced with some protein & fat) I’ve said this a million times and I’ll say it again…. Your cells prefer to use glucose as energy NOT fat. Your hormones, your liver, brain, ovaries, thyroid ALL need carbs to function properly. Sure, they can function without for a bit…until your body get’s tired of having to manufacture it’s own energy and gives up…hint hint this is when all the symptoms come up. Carbs aren’t the problem. Isn’t that a relief? Wouldn’t it make it easier if you didn’t have to cut them out anyways?? 2️⃣ If you don’t get something right on the first try, try again until you get it! I would roll my eyes if you got it 100% perfect the first time around, even the second or third. It takes 10,000 hours to master a skill…so remember that next time you want to give up! So if you haven’t gotten everything 100% by Wednesday, don’t wait until Monday to start over again. Just get back on track. It works the same every day. 3️⃣ Cauliflower is a vegetable, not pizza or rice I remember when I used to make cauliflower pizza and pretend I didn’t care that it just broke apart and wasn’t crispy at all 😂 Let’s just quit trying to replace carbs with low-calorie options altogether, how’s that sound? It’s unnecessary and eating an excessive amount of cauliflower isn’t any better for your digestive system. And if you don’t digest carbs well, then put in the work to restore your metabolism and gut health so that you CAN enjoy pizza, rice, potatoes, and any other carbs without it setting you back. Is A Lack Of Animal Based Nutrition Wrecking Your Health? 🤔 ⁣ ⁣ Before any of you get into a hissy fit and get triggered let me explain.⁣ ⁣ I used to be a hard-core vegetarian for 9 1/2 years. I did eat eggs occasionally thank God! It might have been a my saving grace. ⁣ ⁣ At the tail end of my plant based diet I ended up being diagnosed with an auto immune dis-ease known as Ulcerative Col⁣itis (a form of inflammatory bowel disease). Needless to say it was a very debilitating and destructive health issue. ⁣ ⁣ I now know that my attempt to create health with a diet like vegetarianism did not work, in fact it backfired on me.⁣ ⁣ I'm not shaming, belittling, or trying to tear anyone down based on their diet choice. ⁣ ⁣ What I aim to do is share my experience, knowledge, and the fundamental foods for human physiology.⁣ ⁣ There are numerous ways in which a nutrition plan that is void of quality animal foods can cause the body to breakdown and end up imbalanced.⁣ ⁣ I've worked with ex vegans and vegetarians and they all experience the same negative issues, some early on other years later. ⁣ ⁣ There are way too many real super foods we miss out on when we avoid animal foods. This is a huge disservice to our health and well-being. ⁣ ⁣ For instance you're missing out on pre formed vitamin A aka retinol. Sorry folks but beta carotene is not the same. I've acutally talked about this before in other posts. ⁣ ⁣ Just lacking this one fat soluble nutrient has enormous consequences on our physiology. Okay. Confession time. Over the course of this summer, I can count how many times I ate the carrot salad on three hands. This isn’t my proudest moment. But I learned something important about myself: I simply will never do things that I don’t enjoy. At least not for long. And to be honest, I don’t enjoy eating the raw carrot salad. I think I’ve been both so fatigued and so over-stressed for so much of my life, that my brain is constantly, frantically searching for the absolute easiest way to do everything. Quick dinner: frozen tilapia filet with bone broth cooked rice topped with honey balsamic glaze. To make the glaze: 1/4c balsamic vinegar 1-2 tbsp honey (maple syrup or white sugar would be good, too) 1 tbsp butter Add balsamic to a hot pan, then add honey. Cook and reduce for a couple minutes until glossy and thickened slightly. To finish, turn off the heat and add butter. Stir until butter is melted, and it’s done!

Dlux Recipes: Summer Chicken Tostada 🌮⁣ ⁣ I wanted to share a tasty and uber easy recipe with you guys ( I actually ate this for lunch yesterday). ⁣ It's grain free, gluten free, and can be made dairy free of you can't do dairy just yet 😉. ⁣ What you'll need ⬇️⁣ ⁣ 🔥 Tortillas I used @sietefoods in cassava⁣ 🔥 Organic rotisserie chicken ⁣ 🔥 Organic ghee @ancientorganics ⁣ 🔥 Organic mild mango salsa⁣ 🔥 Organic pomegranate seeds⁣ 🔥 Organic sour cream⁣ 🔥 Raw cheddar @raw_farm_by_op 🔥 1/4 cup chopped onion ⁣ 🔥 Chopped parsley or cilantro⁣ 🔥 icelandic sea salt @crucialfour ⁣ How to ⬇️⁣ ⁣ 🌮 Get all your ingredients out and have everything chopped and ready to go. ⁣ 🌮 Shred your rotisserie chicken up with your fingers and get some of the chicken dripping at the bottom too and set aside. ⁣ 🌮 But a dollop of ghee in a pan on medium heat and once it's melted throw your tortilla(s) on and let it "fry" typically until you see it start to brown up. Lift to check on the browning. Then flip and do the other side. Once done put it on plate. ⁣ 🌮 Toss your onion into your pan and add more ghee to saute for a couple minutes and then add in your chicken and drippings. Salt to taste. Heat up until it's warm and then turn your heat off. ⁣ 🌮 Now it's time to layer: first put a layer of warmed chicken + onions, add some raw cheese, then the mango salsa, next is the pomegranates, then add the sour cream, lastly add your parsley to garnish. Enjoy👍. Tip ➡️ You can omit the onion and reheating of the chicken to make it even easier and faster meal👌⁣ ⁣ I usually make 1-2 to make sure to get enough protein and make sure I'm nice and nourished. Through a great deal of trial and error, I’ve found this to be the breakfast that works best for my body. I need a LOT of protein throughout the day or I’m toast. • So usually have raw milk, sometimes with raw eggs and maple syrup as pictured. (Basically eggnog.) Plus some nutrient-dense ruminant muscle meat. Usually cow. • I’ve found I’ve been lacking in protein, so this should be good start to the day • 2 cups of milk = 16 g. 4 whole eggs = 27 g. 3.3 oz ground beef = 14 g. Total = 57 g. • Lots of good saturated fat and digestible sugars. I might round things out with a bit of fruit, but I’ll listen to my body after eating and see if she wants that 🍒🍈🍉 • Not bad on protein just for breakfast though! I could add some collagen to “beef” my drink up even more too. The most essential nutrient for human health. • Let’s say yes to saying “no” more often. • We live in a hustle culture that glorifies behaviors which lead to burnout. • How do we overcome this? Start giving yourself permission to do less. • Give yourself grace. • Find peace in still moments. • Go for a drive or walk by yourself. • Do something nice for yourself. It’s okay to want things. • Listen to your body’s cues. Sleep when you’re tired. Eat when you’re hungry. Don’t go to the gym if you’re not feeling motivated, and then DONT feel bad about it later. Fruit has gotta a bad rep over the last few years due to the low / no carb craze. So, I thought I would drop some fast facts in regards to fruit. 🍒every cell in your body needs fructose to function, from your brain to your liver. 🍎Avoiding sugars? You are probably going to be moody, tired and fighting some serious cravings. 🍌Fruit and organic fruit juices contain fructose and and glucose which are ideal for regulating blood sugar. NOPE ‼️‼️ You slept in. Hit the snooze 5x. Now your running behind. You can’t find your matching sock. Don’t have time to make breakfast. Your going to be late for work. So, you just grab a coffee and haul ass out of the door, you’ll eat later. Sounds pretty typical? Most of us don’t get a good night sleep so we rely on that cup of joe in the morning to help us getting started with the day. Seems harmless right? WRONG‼️ Drinking coffee on a empty stomach will cause your blood sugar to drop, forcing your body to release stress hormone cortisol (your stressed AF already, can’t find your sock, your rushed and going to be late for work) to bring your blood sugar back up. ALWAYS drink your coffee after a balanced breakfast containing protein, easily digested carbs and fats. My breakfast normally looks like 1/2 cup of organic pulp free OJ (Adrenal Cocktail, see a couple of posts back for recipe), 2 organic grassed eggs, 1 tsp of coconut oil and 1 cup of organic cherries. . 🍊🥩 🥛 🍐 🥤 • tangerine + ACV + steak spice + condensed milk + pears Maine + Root + cola • A modest metabolic meal. • I’m five months into supporting my metabolism and nourishing my body. My morning appetite still hasn’t come back. But I nourish as best I can while honoring the fact that I’m not that hungry. I have enough to fuel my body, without force-feeding myself. Today I’m eating late. I was up for three hours before having this meal. • Not ideal, but it’s real. I learn to deal. Such is life with two toddlers. Forest and Oona are my treasures. • It sounds crazy, but I usually start the day with a ginger ale. Immediately after getting up in the morning 😭 You’ve heard the benefits of lemon and ginger in water in the morning? Well Reed’s ginger ale is all that plus, sugar and bubbles. A great metabolic twist on an old favorite. And then I graze while I cook. • Started taking aspirin this week. Boy was Dr. Peat right about it being a wonder drug. Liver isn’t the only organ that provides a broad spectrum of nutrients. Organ meats in general are rich in minerals and important fat-soluble vitamins like A (retinol), E and K. Heart ❤️is my favorite organ taste-wise. It offers the benefits of an organ while not tasting like one too much 😉 It is a huge muscle, so it tastes more like muscle meat than any other organ. Beef heart is especially high in CoQ10 (coenzyme Q10, a powerful antioxidant) and collagen. And it’s usually pretty cheap! My favorite preparation method: Slice the heart very thinly and fry for just 1 or 2 minutes in a pan. I have added some tomatoes, but the variety is endless - just use whatever you like. I had it with a side of cooked apples and dates with some goat yoghurt. Casein brownies Found this recipe on @jessicaashwellness page. So delicious and SO satisfying! It’s a little chewy, a little fudgy, a little cakey. It’s a great blend of protein fat and carbs, but without starch. Nothing against starch, but I personally don’t do well with high amounts, particularly when it’s not thoroughly cooked. And I’m eating to support my metabolism here! I made several tweaks to Jess’ recipe, so this is just my take. Scroll back to July 2020 in Jess’ feed for her original post and recipe. • • • Ingredients: 3/4 c. Pure casein powder 3/4 c. White sugar 1/4 c. Cocoa powder 1/4 c. Coconut oil 1/4 c. Milk 2 eggs • Mix all the dry ingredients together. Add the eggs and milk. Stream in melted coconut oil. Bake at 350° until a toothpick inserted comes out with only a small amount of batter on it. • Not going to give an exact cook time, because all ovens have their own needs and wants and special personalities. Talk to your oven. See what she likes.
