💙 Let's talk. I've spent all of last week in Edinburgh & while wandering through the streets & not having my laptop with me to write in the evenings; it set me to think about a lot of things. Why have I chosen to pursue writing & publishing? Why did it take me so long to find this path? And a handful of other questions. The thing is, creativity was never not in my life. My parents actually nourished it & pushed my brother & me to find creative solutions to problems & have a hobby besides school & work. Second was that even as a kid I already was making up stories. I used to dream about these grand Kingdoms with fairies having to fight for justice. At the age of about 8 to 9 I'd written down my words for the first time, which was a ghost story in a huge mansion based on a movie I had seen the day prior. Don't ask me about the name because I can't remember it at all. Being in Edinburgh, a city with such a rich history, had me think back to all of my reasons. But the thing is that I always loved stories, yet it wasn't the initial reason why I wanted to publish a book. Not at first though. I was lucky enough to grow up in a family that supports creative endeavours but the reason why I decided to become serious with my writing was because other people (past colleagues & such) made fun of me because I liked writing. Things such as; "It's just a hobby, not a job" or "You will be a nobody" or "That is not a career, you are a nobody" were said to me daily & on repeat. A part of me, let's call it spiteful me, wanted to prove them so, so wrong! I'm happy that during the last four years of working on Fire Fox, my attitude changed when it came to that. I love writing & do it for myself in the first place. I want to share my stories because I hope it will make other people feel seen & that they will know they aren't alone. My original reason to become an author wasn't a pretty one but I've learned so much about the craft & myself in the process. My relationship with writing has become so much healthier than it was. And for that I'm grateful 😊. And if you come from the same roots; it's okay. We learn as we go! [CONTINUED IN COMMENTS]...

My recent trip to Spain in pictures - Seville, Spain by far was my favorite region and also quite similar to my beloved state of California (a Spainish colony from 1769-1821). The narrow cobblestone alleyways that lead to huge open spaces, echoes of Church bells (once the Muslim call to prayer, prior to Spain's conquest/colonization, I must add), the passionate flamenco dancers, balconies and the clip clop of people's heels on the streets below were a few of my simple yet most special moments. Bidding a fond farewell to San Miguel de Allende and my second international writers conference. I have lots to be thankful for when it comes to this particular trip. While I taught for San Miguel during covid, it's been so amazing to be here in person this time around.
