I remember when Allyn Johnston explained to me the drawn out ending that her and Mem and Helen had come up with. It opened my eyes to the magic of page turns, the dynamic pacing of a picture book. It really is a beautiful ending. There’s the refrain about little digits throughout, with love all around, but the baby o’ mine gets a little extra love. Here's how to create it yourself! 👇🏼💚🐑 Where is the Green Sheep? 🐑💚 A cute activity for little ones who love this classic story! 📚 Provide an array of collage materials in all different colours and either draw some sheep on paper or print off pictures of sheep. 🐑🐑🐑🐑 Here I 👉🏼 drew sheep from the story and using coloured bowls, the children collected items that were the colour of the sheep they wanted to create. The children then coloured in their sheep and glued on the collage items. If this Mem Fox book looks a little beat up, it’s only because it’s been so well read in this home. (I’m pretty sure I can still recite the entire book!) This beautiful little book lets us meet lots of different babies, but keeps reminding us that we’re also all the same with our “ten little fingers and ten little toes”. * * 【コラム】正しい読み聞かせとは？ * あっという間に3月も後半ですね！ わが家も春休みはどのように過ごそうかと 娘のお友達の親御さんに連絡をしながら、 帰省の日程や私の仕事の予定も見ながら、 スケジュールを調整しています。 子どもはお休みでも、大人は仕事なので…(^^; * さて、今月の英語絵本ワークショップでは、 Mem Foxさんという、オーストラリアでは 知らない方はいない！…であろう、 大人気作家さんの絵本を取り上げました。 （ワークショップのご感想はまた改めて…♡） * そのワークショップでもご案内したのですが、 Mem Foxさんは『Reading Magic』という、 絵本の読み聞かせの大切さを教えてくれる本も 出版しています。 * 私が最初にこの本を読んだのは6年ほど前、 リードアラウドという手法にはじめて出会ったとき。 私の師匠である大島先生が「師匠」というのだから、 それはもう私の師匠なのだ！と思って読みました。 * そのときはすべての内容にうなずき、共感し、 付箋を貼れるだけ貼ったかのようにすごいことに なったのですが、その後読み返すチャンスがなく、 付箋もそのまま（写真２）。 でも大島先生のブログで、20年ぶりに新装版が出たと 知り、私も再読しようと思って手に取りました。 * まだChapter ９ぐらいまでしか読めていないのですが、 その中で出会ったこちらの文章が、 私はすべてを言い表しているのではないかな…と 思っています(*^^*) * ---✂︎--------------------------------------------- There’s no right way of reading aloud, other than to try to be as lively as possible. Each of us will have our own special way of doing it. Once upon a time, but not very long ago, deep in the Today is International Read to Me Day, and in the world of children’s literature, few tales captivate both young and old quite like Mem Fox's timeless classic, 'Possum Magic.' The story of Hush and Grandma Poss holds an unexpected link to Early Childhood Education: the concept of making learning visible. Similar to Hush's invisibility, learning in our early childhood settings can sometimes seem invisible, even though we know that it is occurring all the time. Like Grandma Poss, we can forget the process that makes learning seen. However, through a few simple tweaks, we can reveal the magic of learning to children, families, and ourselves. Throughout 'Possum Magic,' Hush and Grandma Poss embarked on a journey that wasn't linear. It was filled with twists, turns, and unexpected discoveries. Much like their adventure, the learning journey of children in our care often follows a non-linear path. It's a journey marked by exploration, experimentation, and the occasional stumble. Awwww. How cute is this photo of Bryn as a four month old bub reading his bedtime story to Dad? The book, ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ by Mem Fox, was one of our favourites. Bryn has been surrounded by books since he was a newborn. He was a reflux baby, and was unable to lie down without pain for a good chunk of his first year, so we spent a lot of time reading books to survive! Fast forward nearly nine years and the reading is still going strong. Will it survive the tween and teen years though?
