Nazmo k Afsaane...... By @ssumitsarkar999 I don't even remember when was the last time I read a book, that was in Hindi completely. And that made the experience so much more amazing for me. This poetry book has touched a lot of topics and even, corners of my heart. The way it is written is just simple words, but that will dig deeper into your heart and some even touch the core. So, the way I read poetry books is I randomly flip through the pages and stop when I feel so. Then I go ahead and read it. If the poem struck no chords at that moment, I'd try again but this time at the very end. But as I always say, it could either be a hit or a miss. Mostly were a hit for this book. One of the poems, that was named 'karm', felt like the one that will be motivating you. It felt like the words of an older brother or sister trying to encourage you. It felt personal. There also was this poem named 'bhul gye' and it talks about the differences we face in love. And it's been portrayed very beautifully. At times, we do hate the very moments we used to love and cherish. It all gets clouded by the ego and all the 'i am the right one' thoughts. Do give it a try. I am that migrant parent with a sad past and a desire to no longer be called resilient. I no longer wish to move, I wish to grow roots, to grow community, to let go of running and looking for greener pastures. I no longer wish to be called strong or expect to be strong. I want my soul to find rest, to find freedom, to heal so hard and load myself up with so many good memories and a beautiful present that the wounds I carry from myself and my ancestors are just a passing ghostly memory of things that were. Of things I wanted but never came to term. As a child in the U.S coming from Mexico, I had to learn from a young age to run so far away from myself and to be as American as possible. To leave my food which had “odd” smells behind, to leave my lingo behind, to leave any Mexican trace of me behind in order to be accepted into a system that was not even built to support anyone.
