We had an enriching weekend in Philly, where I had the privilege of attending church in a wonderfully diverse congregation. From a young mother with a newborn in the NICU to a man raised in foster care, each speaker shared their unique journey yet echoed a unified message of faith, love and acceptance. As I’ve reflected on this experience, I’m reminded of King Benjamin’s teachings in the Book of Mormon, where he emphasized our shared humanity by asking, ‘Are we not all beggars?’ Regardless of our backgrounds or circumstances, we are all dependent on God’s grace. King Benjamin recognized a shared vulnerability which promoted inclusivity as he encouraged his people to care for one another regardless of their differences. The Sunday I’ve needed for a long time… 📍 Fowey When I saw the sunshine this morning, I knew I just needed to get out and make the most of it and I wanted to explore somewhere different today, so we headed to Fowey! We made the most of strolling through the town, had a little boat trip, looked through the shops, got ice cream (super tasty) and then a swim and play on the beach! We bought a ball at the little beach shop for £2.50 at readymoney cove, we played catch for ages and I tell you what it was the best thing we did! Sundays… Sundays are for ICECREAM!! I had a funny day today that made me think about a lot of things. Let’s talk about bullies… yep, you read that right… When I was a little girl (way back in the 80’s) I had a PT teacher who was an epitome of a person who should have never worked with children. She had favourites and I wasn’t one of them. I hated PT classes because I knew I’d be laughed at, yelled at, and on one occasion she threw rocks at me for being too slow… I didn’t know back then that the same teacher will become a head teacher many years later and carry on being a bully and causing a lot more damage… And I think that’s where my deeply rooted hatred for bullies comes from. Over the years, I was told many times not to fight battles that are not my own because I was always the one who stood up to bullies… And you’d be surprised, they can take many “forms”. It is not always your typical “bully”… Oh and before you ask, I don’t plan to change 😜😜😜 So we got a lot of coffees when I got home, ice cream from our favourite van (honestly, ice cream vans the time right in front of your house - THE best invention ever!!) and said to one another that tomorrow is a new day… hopefully one without drama for a change. (And if you’re asking what happened to the teacher - she was suspended a few years ago following an investigation. Today in the church, Pastor Kevin read Lamentations 3: 21-25 “This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.” These words were exactly the Scripture I was reading last night. When I needed to remind myself that He is there, even if I can’t seem feel like He is there, God will always make a way to keep telling me His existence. When my emotion covers the light and hope I have, it is okay because the truth of the matter is God is faithful. It is the truth. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. My feelings will change but the truth of God’s existence and His faithfulness won’t. Happy Sunday!
