This was absolutely one of the best classes I’ve ever had the honor to coach. The work that these guys put in for 8-10 hours a day every day was inspiring. Speed Work, Combine Skills, Weight Room, Position Work, Classroom Work, Rehab and Recovery, Diet, Nutrition, Supplements, the overall mental and physical stress these guys accepted the challenge and now it pays off. Remember no one’s path to accomplishing their dreams is a straight line. There are setbacks, pivots, ups and downs, but at the end of the day always know that God has you right where he wants you. I remember hearing about the initial production of “The Meg” (2018) which was supposed to be a rated-R “bloodbath” with intense violence and gore. As we know, this vision was altered by Warner Bros. studio executives, and opted to remove the more adult-centered content. A more widely accessible movie tailored to younger audiences was produced, resulting in a PG-13 rating. Despite the rating adjustment, I thought the original Meg was a really entertaining Summer flick. I really enjoyed watching a prehistoric fish eat some Spring Break beachgoers. The performances by Rainn Wilson and Cliff Curtis as ‘Mac’ made this fun flick even more enjoyable, contributing a good chunk of humor. It’s about to go down. Here in Indy at the @nfl_combine about to watch my guy @k_ballin__ go off this week. Been training since the day after he won a national championship @umichfootball and now we are finally here. This years entire group has put so much work in. SERIES Highlight: the MEG by Steve Alten. I listened through this series last year when I found out that all of these were available for free with audible. The main review might sound like it leans heavily into the negative, but I still found these to be a lot of fun. Check out my full write up on FanFiAddict. The author has this very misogynistic way of writing female characters. Especially their bodies and how men view them. It was one of the main threads in the series that made me consider stopping multiple times. Outside of that, these are fast, bloody, ridiculous, and they can be a lot of fun too. The plot kind of goes off the rails by book five, but the sixth drew it back in. My average for the series is a 7.15/10. Then there’s the movie adaptations. The first was kind of silly but enjoyable, the big CGI scenes were alright with me. I read The Trench, the second book in the Meg series, for entertainment and for my mind to have a little easy-to-read treat between more substantial books. In this 1999 publication, I was pleasantly surprised to read a couple of lines that are so accurate and reflect a theme we have seen through history to the modern day. From the character Benedict Singer: "In response to your statement, labeling one a terrorist or freedom fighter depends more on one's politics than actions. Were the British colonists of the late 1700s any less violent?" On that note, I really love the reading journal I started using this year made by Kunitsa Co. Jonas Taylor, who has been studying Angel, the last surviving known Megalodon, is called back to the trench to investigate. But the company is hiding something, and the new owners will kill anyone who finds out. The Trench by Steve Alten was a fun, shocking journey back into the Mariana Trench. The downside is that Steve Alten relied heavily on badly written female characters, two forgettable villains, all wrapped up in a fascinating journey into the deep abyss. This series has been a blast to read on the beach. Just when they thought they were safe. After defeating the first Megalodon the whole left caused some deep sea creatures to escape. Now Jonas and his crew must deal with all with another Megalodon and all types of other creatures. The first movie wasn’t bad. I expected them to build off the first and be better. 🚫No Spoilers🚫 The DC Extended Universe is officially over. I saw Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom over the weekend and I have to say it was better than I thought it would be. I wasn’t going in with high expectations, so I went out liking it. James Wan is back as director. His style of horror shines in some moments. The story, I’ll admit, is convoluted, but fun. Jason Momoa gives a fantastic performance as Arthur Curry, but this time, he’s playing himself, but a lot more prevalently. Patrick Wilson as Orm is here again and he is good and funny this time. Amber Heard is back, she’s ok, but her legal issues overshadowed her performance every time she was on screen, which wasn’t a lot. Nicole Kidman and Temuera Morrison are both back and underutilized. I wanted more from them both, though. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is great as Black Manta is good here, but is underutilized compared to the first film. The CGI here is some of the better effects in comic book movies this year. And there were actually practical sets that they built, too. Some of the hair on characters underwater looked strange. Rupert Gregson-Williams’ score stood out. The synth sounds, especially the villainous score, are excellent. In terms of negatives, there are a few. I was not a fan of the macguffin trident, or that much of it was on land. Minor spoilers: the villain they teased throughout the movie was just that, a tease. Overall, I’d give it a 7/10. In my opinion, it’s an ok end for the DCEU. The first Aquaman made over a billion dollars at the box office, which it’ll be hard even to reach half that figure.
