i’m not gonna lie! life got hard! i withdrew from the remainder of my semester at school and am planning on taking the semester off in the spring. in the meantime i’m focusing on taking care of myself. that includes going back to therapy. which has taken me a while to be okay with. i don’t like taking steps backwards, but it’s so important to realize that healing and recovery are not linear. needing help is okay. but that also means i’ll have more time to read! and that’s something i’m very excited about. i’ve felt really out of touch with my books and my love for reading recently and the fact that i can do it guilt-free in my free time now is such an enjoyable thought. here’s to the next chapter.

So we made it to Wednesday! These last two weeks have felt like two years 😅. I apologize as I have severely neglected in shouting at you all about these books by @nataliewalters_writer !!!! Living Lies is the first in the trilogy. Each book can stand on its own which is really cool. Each one has their own mystery and a side character from the first book becomes a main one in the second and so forth. Silent Shadows and Deadly Deceit are the name of the other two. 💚🤍 The series is romantic suspense and you won’t want to put it down! Great mystery, fun characters, and humorous moments in the middle of a crazy story. They do fall under the Christian book genre, but it is an undertone more real aspect of the story versus being preachy and overtaking the book. I absolutely love these and cannot wait to see what Natalie Walters comes up with next! 💚🤍 When I took this photo it was 98 degrees and I walked up a small mountain for this shot. I am happy to report I finally got around to reading Jo & Laurie! It is a retelling of Little Women, portraying Jo as the author of the books and the twists and turns that come with that. I was hesitant at first, but it ended up being the story I didn’t know I needed. I maybe cried a couple times. I will treasure it just as much as the original! 📝💜 Usually I am fine with fairy tale retellings, but certain classics being retold can irk me. Part of the reason I came around to being okay with the original classic being rewritten, is that Louisa May Alcott didn’t want to write the book in the first place, and made some character choices out of snark. So while it’s still lovely, it does give some leeway for other people to jump in and write something wonderful too! 📝💜 I love how these editions compliment each other in color. A fascinating look at when the world of science and unforeseen possibilities collide with a regular fisherman. Life changes for all of them in a blink of an eye. 🐠🕰 I really liked that this book feature Vietnam and has a diverse cast of characters. Even though I wanted to get to know some of them in depth a bit more, the plot itself and the idea behind stretching the concept of time kept me riveted! Any author that says in their bio that their “dream has always been to write books that would inspire readers to get involved in solving some of the greatest challenges faced by humanity” has my vote. This book works as a standalone but I could also see a possibility for a second one and I would be really curious to read it! 🐠🕰 Be aware this book will also have you craving fish curry and wishing that the character Minh could hand you a cup of her chai from the pages of the story. I started my week with this book and oddly enough ended it by visiting the Biosphere2 at night. They are not allowing people in right now, but it was really surreal seeing it appear in the middle of the desert. Photos in my stories. I grew up hearing about this place that was envisioned by geniuses and did not realize it was still making scientific discoveries to this day. I feel like this book could’ve fit right in there with the idea of thinking beyond what we know to be real. Thank you to @raziimam.author and @booksforwardpr for sending me this sci-fi fantasy thriller, Masters of the Broken Watches! A fascinating look at when the world of science and unforeseen possibilities collide with a regular fisherman. Life changes for all of them in a blink of an eye. 🐠🕰 I really liked that this book feature Vietnam and has a diverse cast of characters. Even though I wanted to get to know some of them in depth a bit more, the plot itself and the idea behind stretching the concept of time kept me riveted! Any author that says in their bio that their “dream has always been to write books that would inspire readers to get involved in solving some of the greatest challenges faced by humanity” has my vote. This book works as a standalone but I could also see a possibility for a second one and I would be really curious to read it! 🐠🕰 Be aware this book will also have you craving fish curry and wishing that the character Minh could hand you a cup of her chai from the pages of the story. I started my week with this book and oddly enough ended it by visiting the Biosphere2 at night. They are not allowing people in right now, but it was really surreal seeing it appear in the middle of the desert. Photos in my stories. I grew up hearing about this place that was envisioned by geniuses and did not realize it was still making scientific discoveries to this day. I feel like this book could’ve fit right in there with the idea of thinking beyond what we know to be real. I can honestly say that I never thought I’d be taking a Twilight themed picture again! 😂 The release of Midnight Sun after all these years has me feeling all types of nostalgia. My 14 year old self would be over the moon that I finally have my hands on it! Do you have a favorite book dragon? (Besides yourself 😉) Both of these middle grade books feature adorable tiny dragons!! For some reason I love when they are baby or stunted in their growth so they fit in a pocket breathing tiny little flames. So cute!! 🐉😍 The Girl Who Drank the Moon came out in 2016, won the Newberry Award, and even though I have owned it for a long time I did not read it until this year. Oh my gosh it’s SO good! It was five stars for me and ended up being one of my favorites of this year. 🐉😍 The Magnificent Monsters of Cedar Street came out this year by Lauren Oliver. You might recognize her from some YA reads, but I am a big fan of her middle grade books. (Favorite is Liesl and Po) This one was a fun romp but lagged in a few places. 3.5 stars. If you pick this up, there is a massive glossary of monsters at the beginning which can be daunting for a young reader. Might be fun to flip through as you read or to look at afterwards. Happy Monday friends! I’ve been doing a lot of reading for the start of July, and it’s been nice to get through so many good books. This one was one I was anticipating, since I’m waiting for the paperback copy to complete my set. I managed to snag it from the library after a short wait. I picked up Melinda Leigh's ℂ𝕣𝕠𝕤𝕤 ℍ𝕖𝕣 ℍ𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕥 on a whim. I had never read any of her other books, and I was pleasantly surprised by this one! It's been a long time since I read a book in a single day, let alone on a day when I was at work for 9 hours. I started this one during my half hour lunch at work and then couldn't put it down the rest of the night. . This was described as a police procedural, but I felt like it was more akin to a mystery, suspense, or a thriller. I loved a lot of the characters, and I was invested in their stories from early on. Bree Taggert was a strong protagonist, and Matt Flynn was a great compliment to her. I can't wait to see where their stories go in the next book! . 🎵Music Monday🎵 in my stories and I am back playing. This one you might not quite understand if you haven’t read this book, but it’s still a well know piece. 👻🎵 Okay this book was crazy. I have never ever EVER gotten the full on hairs rising on my arms CHILLS while reading any thrillers before. I’ve been jumpy and scared, but never gone completely cold. Recommend reading when it’s dark and stormy out for the full affect. One of my favorite Riley Sager books, and the format was really interesting too since it’s a story within a story. Definitely swear warnings and whatnot, but if you can take the scary leap- read this! Happy Sunday friends! It's been a busy weekend, and there's been a lot of baking and not so much reading and writing. I've taken my first attempts into the realm of sourdough baking. I feel like it's going to be an evolution in trying to figure out the best way to make bread, but I'm excited to experiment more. ✖️✖️ I finished this book on Thursday while I was eating lunch, and I can say it lived up to the expectations that I had for it. I loved the twist on some of the mythological ideas that we're all familiar with, and I loved the way that magic was woven into the contemporary setting. My dad gave me the love of all things sci-fi and both my parents were instrumental in the love I have of books today. 🪐🌑 Dune is one of his favorite science fiction books, which I bonded with Veronica Roth over because her dad also raves about that book. My copy is a worn out mass market edition that he wrote in, and it’s such a treasure to me that I hesitate to use it for rereads. So I’m happy to own this marvelous @barnesandnoble blue edged edition to read from in preparation for the new movie. Isn’t it stunning?!! (Thanks to @kendigronie for the bday giftcard towards this!) 🪐🌑 The pin is Star Wars and at a young age the theater with the largest screen ever replayed the original three films. My dad was so excited to take me to see these in theater and I will never forget that first experience being introduced to that world. Somehow they had managed to keep me from most spoilers or seeing it at a friends house up to that point. It has been fun the last couple Christmases to have the tradition of seeing the latest Star Wars together even though it’s not quite the same impact. 🪐🌑 Anyway, my dad is awesome and I’m so proud of the work he does and who he is as a person. Anytime I need business advice he is the one to ask and I’m ever so grateful for that. Meanwhile my husband is feverishly hoping I do not end up with as many books as my dad has. 😂😅 We shall see! All around the City of Tucson messages of hope and support have shown up on murals scattered all over the city. Some will disappear soon as the wall spaces were designated for something else, and some (like this one) will be around for a long time. I could not grab a photo of the whole thing because I was sweating so bad at this point lol! It has been amazing to see the outpour of messages. You will see a couple of them over the next month in my photos. 🌈 💖 I had to stand on my tip toes and raise the book over my head with a sun glare so I think this came out pretty well with all that! I am so excited to read this beautiful book that was in last months @litjoycrate . With Litjoy there is reverse art on the other side of the cover, you have the option to get the book only versus the box if you choose, and then do some of their fun add-ons. 🌈💖 Living in a small town where magic is frowned upon, Sam needs his friends James and Delia—and their time together in their school's magic club—to see him through to graduation. And the story goes on from there...magic, LGBTQ main character rep, and what looks to be a YA fantasy standalone with a contemporary feel. When I read a The Cruel Prince a couple months ago, I liked it, but I didn’t love it. May was a really great reading month for me, and I was pleasantly surprised to have so many four and five star reads.
