Storm Rising by Chris Hauty Swipe for synopsis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Storm Rising is a fast paced explosive thriller that is fiction but, honestly, hits a little close to home. Hayley Chill is a “deeper state operative” (this was repeated no less than 20 times throughout the book) searching to find out why her father died the way he did. As she is seeking answers, she realizes that there is a faction of people trying to overthrow the US government (sound familiar?). It’s a well written novel that grabs from the first page. This is also the third book in a series so there were definitely characters that were present in this one from the previous novels. I didn’t feel that I was missing anything by not reading the first two books (and the second book seemed a little too prescient for me). The characters are well developed and I liked how Hayley Chill was a badass all on her own. The twists were a roller coaster ride and the end was just as explosive as the beginning. The patient followed up with his ENT (👂👃😮) The Otolaryngologist MD 👨🏼⚕️ remarked with surprise, “How did you even know to come in??” and was glad to catch the area early in order to monitor it. This has been the standard of care for > 20 years and part of dental training for dentists and hygienists — and should not be a surprise. However, we are happy to surprise and delight! 🙌 PERSONAL STORY: 🤕 The importance of these regular checkups hit close to home recently. Dr. Grace’s dad, lives on the east coast and unfortunately, she only infrequently gets to help with his dental care. He lapsed with regular dental care with his local dentist, much to her chagrin, and recently had oral cancer detected on his tongue. This required immediate surgery, tongue graft and then a plan for 6 weeks of radiation starting next month. He is lucky to have a good prognosis and is healing well (relieved to be able to start to take sips of 🌅coffee ☕️ again —he really missed it!) but still has a long road of recovery. Many affected by oral cancer are not so lucky…it is often a very aggressive cancer…the part that is identified is just a tip of the 🧊🥶 iceberg. Dr. Grace had a patient, Marty, during dental school training 20+ years ago whom she will never forget. He lost an eye, nose and part of his upper jaw. He had to spend 45 minutes every night just to clean around the removable facial prosthesis he wore 🥸. So early detection is very key! #gettingreal Please make sure to come in regularly for your dental care, not just for your 🦷🪥😁 but also for general head and neck health.
