Away with the girls so did some #parkruntourism today - that was an amazing parkrun. Super flat and all by the sea. I loved it! Kept to easy HR & ran a very slight progression - I think I need to come back to this one again someday. Thanks to all the friendly volunteers and locals i chatted to 🙌 The first half marathon I ever ran was in Hastings but it was incredibly hilly - not like this parkrun. I was in my twenties and very under prepared. Being by the sea here reminded me of the finish! I was running with my friends Ellie and Annabel. Annabel later died of cancer when we were 27 🥲. I thought of her today. The lushest morning for a run 🌞 Had no plan in mind, so just plodded along and ended up doing a 7km out to the barrage and back. It was LUSH! Good endorphins to start the day 🥰

Это был тот день, когда с первого шага я поняла "сил нет вообще" и хоть в уши мне вливалась мотивация, типо ты молодец, раз ты бежишь, легче не становилось. Думаю, что тут есть 2 причины - 2 недели перерыв от бега и началась аллергия на цветение (а я же молодец, как обычно про нее вспоминаю, когда уже полностью больная). И есть ещё такая штука, как подсознание или сознание, или и то, и другое, которое шепчет на ушко всякую всячину... Хоть, я и рада тому, что изучила себя, но все равно тяжело поступать так, как надо было бы.... И иногда мой достигатор даёт слабину... Хочешь расскажу, почему? #run #hmtraining #runbythesea

Long training run went horribly wrong today! Was aiming for 30k today. Jeffing 7min run, 1min walk. 7 to 7:30 /km pace. From only a couple of KM in everything hurt, legs, hips, as soon as I ran got really out of breath despite not trying to push hard. Bailed out and got a wife-cab home. Not worth pushing through this and causing injury, better (IMO) to be able to maintain steady training through the week. Chucking it down with rain most of today, couldn't resist strapping on the trail shoes and going for a very wet lunchtime trail and beach run. Didn't go mad, just plodded around but loved every minute. Today was all about the fun. I was wet through already so even threw in a quick dip. Didn't want to risk full immersion and cold water shock, but up to the waist the sea temp didn't feel too bad. Long run targets this week: ✅ Rerun same route as I did a couple of weeks ago (when I felt unwell and probably shouldn't have long run) ✅ Complete this run feeling in good shape ✅ Focus on my jeffing pace routine (7mins run / 1min walk) ✅ Practice fuelling All boxes ticked! I was sore at the end but its easing quickly so recovery is looking good. Hips were the biggest pain point so going to do some strength work around them. New shoes worked well, laces needed a little bit of dialing in and a little rubbing on socks but got better as the run progressed. Plan for the coming weeks is to build my running training quantity and more strength training focusing on lower body. Complemented with some ride and swim. As a child I used to love magazine stories about beautiful life in places very far away from me. I would watch beautiful girls in the sunshine exercising near the ocean on the pages of the magazine, and I could not even think of trying to imagine myself in their shoes. Where was their world, and where was mine? Here’s one of the stories: The girl finishes her morning run along the beachfront, the sun warming her skin, her hair is flowing. The girl feels tired but also strong and beautiful. She walks to the big car, an SUV, picks up a bottle of water, a sweatshirt, and a pink exercise band, and returns to the beachfront. Sports and the long waterfront seem like a natural part of her lifestyle. It’s not something to show off but part of the morning routine. She stretches in bright pink sneakers, puts on her wellness sweatshirt, and catches glances from the older people on the nearby bench. And then she returns to the car because there’s a whole day ahead, breakfast with lots of berries, exciting work, and in the evening she can go to the sea again. And just the other day, I was that girl. I’m not always her, but that morning, I felt like that girl from the magazine from my childhood. A 13-year-old me would have been surprised to hear that. The now 31-year-old me was also surprised and even decided to memorize the moment. I accidentally experienced a California girl moment, and I loved it, and I loved myself in it, too. Grateful for everything I have in my life 🖤

🌞 Running the sunset 🌞 After a day in Gary Lams back garden we got back to Hermosa Beach and I just had to go for a run! I love the vibe of this place, I loved seeing the guy in his 50s skateboarding and cranking out tunes from his stereo, I loved seeing the woman roller blading with her dog running alongside her, it was great seeing people playing volleyball on the beach, groups enjoying some beers overlooking the sea - all the cliches you see in Americam films etc seem to be based on some reality! Pleased to get a run in - first of the year 🤣 Would love to get another run in but not sure we will get the time - 2 full on days now at the Insanto Academy in Marina Del Ray before we fly home! I’ve made it to double figures 🙌 🙌, meaning I’ve managed to complete 10 half marathons in as many days to help raise money for the beautiful Hudgell family. This is now a third of the way through my challenge of running a half marathon every day of January, which makes this seem just that little bit more manageable. I’ve mentioned my strategy of breaking things down a couple of times so far in this challenge as for me it really helps me to make it seem more manageable. I do this not only with the overall challenge but also with the daily task of completing 13.1 miles. The other gem I realised today that helped, was changing the time I got out the door. If there was an award for procrastinating, I’d be a strong contender to win….it’s definitely one of my superpowers!! Having to fit this challenge around work and other commitments though, the main thing I have to be is flexible. It isn’t always convenient to run at the time that suits me best (which happens to be first thing in the morning at the moment) but I’ve been trying to make it a habit. 9 year old @tonyhudgell.bem had to have both his legs amputated when he was two years old, due to having been horrifically abused by his birth parents at 6 weeks old. He will soon undergo extensive surgery, which will require weekly trips from Kent to Sheffield, which is going to be extremely costly for the family. Looking forward to chatting on BBC Radio Wiltshire this morning to help raise awareness for this brave little boy.
