Update/highlights from this weeks training âââââââââââââââââ Feels good to lift some heavy weights again and make some progress. The End of last year was a right off with too many comps and too many injuryâs, even though I performed well in all of them but nationals, I made next to no progress in the gym. This year the plan was to take a extended break from comps and focus on bringing my general strength back up and get the body functioning again like it used to. The end of last year was mentally draining dealing with nerve damage/pain, knowing that I could lift more but my body wouldnât let me was really frustrating. I remember struggling with weights that used to be warm ups. Makes it hard on the mind to go all in and give your best when you know you canât. For the end of last year I felt like I was backed into a corner, I felt like I was always a step behind everyone else and couldnât do a thing about it. A lot of people didnât know what I was going through and I didnât want to make excuses why I didnât perform so I pushed on through and did what I could. I learnt a lot from last year and already made massive gains this year, especially in the last 10 week training block. Feels good to be back âââââââââââââââââ Hereâs a few lifts from this week, nice to see some progress and know thereâs more in the tank on each lift. Strongman Saturday âââââââââââââââââ By far the best workout of the lockdown, everything felt good today. Been dealing with a lower back tweak from 4 or so weeks ago, happened during the block pulls. Nice to get a workout in near pain free. Introduced the chain yoke back into training, been a year or 2 since Iâve done this variation. Started light, will build this back up to where it used to be. I know that when I was training this in the past my yoke was at its best. The focus and intensity wasnât the same. Few changes to training since Iâm at home, less strongman focused, will be more focused on the gym lifts squats, strict overhead press & deadlift. Going into todayâs workout the hernia has been locking up my hip/lower back complex, just had to work around that and see how I went. Really happy to be able to hit all my working weights. Not my best yoke run at 380kg but I know when this settles down things will be looking real good. âââââââââââââââââ ð¹log press 122kg 2 x 1, back down work at 115kg ð¹farmers & yoke medley top set 145kg per hand (low pickup) & 380kg yoke. Anvil carry has been progressing well, in the past Carry events have been a big weakness for me every since I had the hernia in 2017, I would always get back pain On the side my hernia was. Had to change training from Saturday to Sunday this week, which will affect my whole training week, not looking forward to squat tomorrow, may have to make a few changes but well worth the session. ââââââââââââââââââââââââ ð¹log press 117kg x 2, back down sets at 107kg 2 x 2 (was meant to do triples but right trap locked up) ð¹MDB 60kg x 4, 70kg x 4, 75kg x 4 (Left arm still feeling unstable so just used the right) ð¹farmers & yoke medley top set 135kg per hand, yoke 340kg. Then 155kg per hand holds and 380kg yoke pick up & hold to get the body use to heavier loads. ð¹natural stones 2 x stone run warm ups 107, 112, 130kg, then 2 sets on the 166kg (first time loading this particular stone, has given me a lot of grief in the past) ââââââââââââââââââââââââbodies feeling strong and healthy. Progress update after calf tear âââââââââââââââââ Training is going really well right now, strength is coming back real fast. Took a good off season after tearing my calf to let everything settle down, as I also had a pinched nerve in my neck that affected my right shoulder & tricep that I wanted to rest up. For the first 6 weeks I trained light upper body only, then eased my way back into light strength training mixed with conditioning for the next 4 weeks going no heavier than 60% on squats or deadâs. Im now 3 weeks into regular strongman training, the bodies feeling good and strength is already close to fully being back. Did a little testing this week before I head into a mini deload next week to see where Iâm at, didnât max out on anything, just built up to some good numbers. Really enjoying being back training strongman, canât wait to see the progress over the next few weeks. ââââââââââââââââââââââââCouple highlights from this week, 120kg log press, easy run on farmers & yoke medley, 220kg back squat with no knee sleeves (first back squat since calf tear) and 260kg deadlift.
