Four good books in April! 8 ⭐️ out of 10 for all! 📚Safe and Sound by Laura McHugh: This was my 2nd LM book. I loved the alternating perspectives (which I usually don’t). It was sad and hopeful. Good if you love a mystery. 📚The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo: I chose this one bc it was the @reesesbookclub pick for the month, and once I started reading it, I was about 90% sure I’d read it before, but I couldn’t remember any of the details (typical). So I re-read it. Lots of characters, lots of story, juicy family secrets, that kind of thing. I could read it all day. 👂Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Lord by Celeste Connally: Listened to this as an audiobook and it was delightful! Goodreads calls it “Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie” and I couldn’t describe it any better! 👂The Storm we Made by Vanessa Chan: I love historical fiction that is a compelling story and also teaches me about something I never knew. This book is set in Malaya (current name is Malaysia) during WWII and alternates in time between British-occupied Malaya and Japanese-occupied Malaya. I was unfamiliar with events of that time in that location and the story completely drew me in. A collection of short stories and a novella by the masterful Li, gathered over ten years. 9/10 - this woman can seemingly do no wrong. - ☕ Before we say goodbye (2023) by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. The 4th novel in the internationally best selling series, featuring Kawaguchi's signature heart-warm characters and wistful storytelling. Who would you visit if you could travel through time? 7/10 - 💭 The BFG (1982) by Roald Dahl. Revisited one of my childhood favourites - as endearing, whimsical and poignant as it always was. 8/10 - ⛩️ The Painted Veil (1925) by W. Somerset Maugham. 'She was a fool and he knew it and because he loved her it had made no difference.' A book about betrayal, sacrifice and trying to make amends, least of all with ourselves. 7/10 *We are discussing this for @avidreader Short On Classics Book Club in June - check the website for registration details. - 🤡 On Writing: A memoir of the craft (2001) by Stephen King. This was another revisit and well worth it. Love or hate his stories, you can't help but respect his remarkable work ethic (he's written 65 novels/ novellas, 5 non fiction books and 200+ short stories). Piper and Nick haven’t been on good terms for 11 years. She’s upset with him and he has no idea why, but they remain as cordial as possible because they are there for Rachel. The road trip has several unfortunate events and I felt so bad for them! It was one bad thing after another, especially for Piper. BUT, it wasn’t all bad. ;) Miscommunication tropes are not my favorite, especially since it could have erased many years of misunderstandings between Piper and Nick. But I remind myself that this is THEIR growth journey and was unfolded nicely in the story. Something I really loved is that even though there was friction, they still knew little details of each other. I look forward to reading more books from Kat Paige! Book #21 for 2024: The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 by Garrett M. Graff Hard to believe that its been almost 23 years since the attach on America on 9/11. Rather than read this I listened to it on audiobook. Oh man! So many pieces of what all was happening before, during, and after, that I had not even considered. At one point I was asking myself “Why am I even listening to this?!” But its so important to remember the evil and then to remember the kindness and service that was a result. The Fine Print by Lauren Asher Thank you @indiespinesbookclub for choosing this for April and for the giveaway win! The first in a billionaire brothers romance series, Rowan Kane is looking to take over and renovate his late grandfather's theme park, Dreamland. He hires Zahra as a Creator, but can't deny his attraction to her. He kisses her, then texts her using an alias and things get out of hand. He believes people like him don't get happy endings, but he can't stay away. I'm not usually into billionaires, but I enjoyed this one. I started reading the print but switched to audio because Aiden Snow's voice is 🥵. Rowan is the king of grumps, and can even be rude. But Zahra doesn't take his shit and sasses him back. I loved their banter! When we find out why he has such an attitude, it made sense and I felt for him. The spice 🌶 was hot too! I also loved that he became close with Zahra's sister, Ani, who has Down Syndrome. Their relationships (Zahra and Ani, and Rown and Ani) were so heartwarming. I found it a little too long (although idk what could be cut). I remember reading and being like how tf am I only at 50%?! Also Rowan's possessiveness turned me off. But I did enjoy it overall and I'll probably continue the series at some point! ❓️Would you accept an offer for your dream job if it meant working for a rude and difficult boss? It’s not quite May, but I feel confident naming The Sicilian Inheritance my top book club pick for your summer books clubs. Why? There’s TRULY something for everyone here: historical fiction (with dual timelines), suspense, crime, mystery, romance, strong women, drama, family, and, of course, an Italian setting. I recommend it especially for fans of Chanel Cleeton. I had “Next Year in Havana” feels the whole time! It’s also a perfect beach read. And, you can easily pair it with delicious Italian food and beverages, which is a no-brainer. The Sicilian Inheritance is based on a true crime story in the author’s own family history, and, for those who like to indulge in a full multimedia experience, she released a corresponding podcast about it. The death of Sara’s beloved Aunt Rosie brings her to Sicily, where she comes to investigate the possible murder of her feisty great-grandmother there, all the while her husband worked in America. On a personal note, I truly loved all the Philadelphia (where I live) and Scranton (where I grew up) references, so I’ll also be recommending this one to all my IRL friends and family too.

"אשתר"- גל אלגר, עריכה- יותם שווימר, רתם כסלו, קינמון הוצאה לאור - ספרים עם טעם וריח גל אלגר - יצירה בגוון שלם מי שמכיר את סגנון הקריאה שלי בטוח מרים עכשיו גבה ואולי אפילו גבותיים🙃😘 הרי שאני כמעט ולא קוראת ספרי פנטזיה, למרות שמדי פעם אני בוחנת את הגבולות, כדי לגוון ולמתוח את היריעה.🥰 אשתר נערה יתומה שעברה טראומה קשה מנשוא בילדותה, הגיעה לבית היתומות שבשכונת העוני של בירת ממלכת סרפ, מיד אחרי שמשפחתה נטבחה. ביום בו נפתחו שערי הארמון, לחגיגת פסטיבל האביב, הייתה מאושרת עד מאד. באותו היום סאפ, אהובה שרק חזר מהמלחמה, אחז בידה והציע לה שיתחתנו. אך כשבישרה לו כי התקבלה למדרשה יוקרתית, בבית הארמון, ששם לומדים רק השמנה וסלתה של הממלכה ואפילו קיבלה לשם כך מלגה, זעם ועזב אותה מידית. היא הסתובבה כסהרורית כשפגשה בארמון איש זר שנקב בשמן של אימה ואחותה שנספו. כשחזרה אל בית היתומים הבינה שהיה זה דודה והוא מזמין אותה להתגורר עם משפחתו. היא אמנם לא זוכרת את שהיה אך ביעותי הלילה רדפו אותה ללא הרף, מה גם שבמעון בו שהתה, משפחה הייתה שם נרדף לכל הטוב שבעולם, כי משפחה זה אכפתיות, דאגה ואהבה ללא תנאי. הפנימה את זה כל כך עד שכאשר הגיע אדם זר, שבמקרה טען שהוא בן משפחה, פשוט נסעה איתו בלי שום מחשבה. הרי הינה עכשיו יש לה משפחה ממש כמו בקסם שיש באגדות, אבל החלום שלה לא התממש היות ולא עברה יממה, וכבר הבינה שלא הייתה באמת רצויה.💔 אשתר מתגלגלת לה ממקום למקום, מוצאת עצמה במאבקים לא פשוטים וגם אהבה מפתיעה במקום הכי לא צפוי. בשורה התחתונה, מדובר בסיפור מרתק מסעיר ומטלטל, עם דמויות מורכבות, חזקות ונחושות, אפילו דמויות המשנה כבשו את ליבי ובעיקר אותה נערה מדהימה ועוצמתית, שניצבה בפני אתגרים קשים והחלטות קשות לא פחות, כשגבולות רבים היטשטשו, תככים ולא מעט מזימות נערמו. הספר הזה מוגדר כספר פנטזיה דיסטופי, העלילה מתרחשת בממלכה שהסופרת בדתה במוחה, כזו שנשענת מעט על האימפריה הפרסית וסיפור אסתר מהמגילה. כפי שציינתי אני אמנם לא מורגלת לסוגה, אך מבחינתי הוא הזכיר את הסגנון של המועמדת למי שקרא, גם שם העולם דמיוני ואין איזה שהם כשפים או ערפדים. הסיפור מסופר בגוף ראשון, בכתיבה סוחפת לחלוטין👌 ועוד מילה אחת נוספת על הכריכה המרהיבה, 💥 אני נהניתי במיוחד,💙💙💙💙💙 מזמינה גם אתכם. יפעת ארניה #הסקירות_של_יפעת_ארניה למעקב אחר דף הסקירות שלי👇💙🙏 הסקירות של יפעת ארניה https://www.facebook.com/ifatsreviews/ אינסטגרם👇 https://did.li/ifat-aranya-books evrit - עברית זה סיפור אחר👇 https://did.li/NSxrl
"לבבות הארגמן"- טס וייקפילד, תרגום- ליאורה כרמלי, עריכה- נעמה טל, דניאלה ישורון, סיקרט הוצאה לאור כשהסרט יצא לראשונה, צפיתי בו ונכבשתי בשנייה. זו הסיבה שחששתי לא מעט לגשת לספר כשתורגם לאחרונה, חששתי שאחווה את סינדרום הפעם השנייה, איזה מזל שזה הצליח בענק❣🥰 התסריט לגמרי נאמן לעלילה והרגש נשמר בדיוק במידה הנכונה.👌 קאסי פורטוריקנית חצופה ומלאת שמחת חיים, למדה לבקשת אימה עריכת דין, 😎 אך עקב קיצוצים, פוטרה מעבודתה המשמימה. יש שיגידו שזו הייתה טרגדיה בעבורה, אבל היא תכננה להתחיל את החיים האמיתיים, בתקווה שכמוזיקאית מתחילה, חייה יכללו יותר משירה במכונית.🎶🔊 אימצה את זהותה האמיתית, הפסיקה להיות האישה שלכודה בעבודתה המשרדית וכמו כל זמרת מתחילה, קוששה מטבעות כמלצרית.🤭😈 באמצע משמרת משמימה בבר בו עבדה, נכנסה קבוצת חיילים בתספורת קצוצה. לוק מהטיפוסים השקטים, חייל בהכשרה בחיל הרגלים, אמנם לא תכנן להסתובב במזרח התיכון עם חתיכת מתכת קטלנית בידיים, אבל החיים כמו החיים, תכננו לו בדרך לא מעט הפתעות ואתגרים. למרות שניסה לתקן את טעויות העבר, לעשות דברים כמו שצריך. התפנית בעלילה קרתה כשקאסי חלתה ונזקקה לעזרה, הרגישה כמו עומדת על צוק וניסתה לשכנע את עצמה, שלקפוץ ממנו זה רעיון לא רע, אמנם השתחררה מהכבלים וקפצה מהצוק, רק בלי מצנח לעזרתה, לכן פנתה אל לוק שיינשא לה בנישואי נוחות. את השיר הזה אקדיש לפרנקי האהוב🔊🎶 https://did.li/Q3Z5q בשורה התחתונה, מדובר בסיפור מרגש ומרתק שאהבתי במיוחד❣ כזה שלמרות שכבר צפיתי בסרט, לא הצלחתי להניח מהיד. אלו דמויות בוגרות שנישאו בנישואי נוחות, בעקבות אתגרים שהחיים זימנו. שניהם אנשים שנמצאו מעברה השני של החומה, היו לכודים בספינה של חייהם, נוהמים ונושכים עד שיחלצו ממנה. זו הייתה מעין אשליה, חיים שיצרו מתוך ייאוש. יריבים שהיו הפכים, לקח זמן עד שמצאו את השביל המתאים, היות ועברו בחייהם אתגרים לא פשוטים, כמו אובדנים, פציעות ופוסט טראומה קשה מנשוא. הסיפור מסופר בגוף ראשון מפי הגיבורים. אין ספק שנשארתי פה עם טעם של עוד..😈🥰 אני נהניתי והתרגשתי במיוחד💙💙💙💙💙 מזמינה גם אתכם. יפעת ארניה #הסקירות_של_יפעת_ארניה למעקב אחר דף הסקירות שלי👇💙🙏 הסקירות של יפעת ארניה https://www.facebook.com/ifatsreviews/ אינסטגרם👇 https://did.li/ifat-aranya-books evrit - עברית זה סיפור אחר👇 https://did.li/kpUlC
