It was smiles all round on Sunday as these guys ensured an AMAZING April finished with a bang for #TeamRM. Ellen (bottom, middle) crushed her PB and was 4th woman at #worthinghalfmarathon (with some ace pacing from Martin!), Vicky (bottom, right) - in early season training - led her age group and finished 10th woman in #worthing10k, where 3rd-in-AG Matt (bottom, left) also took a minute off the benchmark he set just three weeks ago! Hello Monday .. On Sunday I had the pleasure of being an official pacer at @worthingrunfest thanks to @xempo . My Goal time was 02:05:00 my official time was 02:04:55 Conditions going into the race were mixed and being by the coast there were quite a few head winds to deal with. Apart from that a very well organised event the route itself was quite a flat course . I found a steady rhythm and kept to a steady pace . The last mile was very interesting as it almost threw me off as it had an extra little out & back before the final 100 meters and the home straight to the finish. I look forward to a well earned rest but before that i will be a lead bike volunteer at @mkmarathon next Monday. In a few weeks I start up my training for my next challenge Well done to this who ran over the weekend especially those in @runrocknroll Madrid . A season’s best Half Marathon time of 1:18:29 and 15th place of 1,413 finishers at the @worthingrunfest Worthing Half Marathon this morning! I very much doubt there was a single race in good weather in the UK today, but thankfully this wasn’t quite as bad as forecast as the rain stopped and although the wind was brutal it was at least a tailwind for the last 4 miles, which was the complete opposite of the Brighton Half in February! This was my first time back at the Worthing Half since doing it in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and I really enjoyed the new route, thought it was brilliantly organised and loved to see Horace making an appearance on the medal and t-shirt (and on the course…)! 5 and a half years since open heart surgery and today I ran under 2 hours for the Worthing half marathon. A week after the surgery I could walk a maximum of 7 minutes and was out of breath. Today’s was 7 minutes quicker than my previous best. Very happy (and quite shocked) at that. I could never sustain that pace on training runs. It makes all those early morning practice runs worthwhile and yes, I’m buzzing. Despite smashing my previous best I felt pretty good all the way round, my legs just starting to seize up a little in the last mile so I thought I slowed a little to protect them; but my stats actually show the last 2 miles were (marginally) some of my quickest! I ran a pretty consistent pace the whole run except the 1st 2 which were purposefully slower. Banked my second-fastest half marathon with a 1:32:47!✅ (fastest for nearly 3 years) I pushed myself to the limit today, and I’m genuinely proud of my performance for once. This was my longest run since last April, and maintaining that pace felt like a real challenge, especially towards the end. Despite a soaring heart rate, I managed to hold on! Huge congratulations to all the runners, and massive thanks to the supporters braving the rain and wind to cheer us on! Happy Sunday all 😀 Right I’ve got a plan, I’ve booked a race for the end of April, Worthing Half! Recent changes mean I really have to cut back for a while so a coach is out of the question, I can’t even stretch to an app 🙄 So I’m using garmin coach again which whilst I moaned all the way through I actually got a half PB last time I followed it (helped by training with @bethdringfitness though) So it’s week 1 of 12 and I had a benchmark run of 2 min jog 5 min effort and 2 min jog, that’s it 9 mins! I’d already planned a long run for today so I’ve done that anyway🙋♀️🏃♀️ 12 miles total this morning and I trotted along just fine 👍🏃♀️ Take care 💜💛

Today we need to celebrate the wonderful Selina! @selina_runs_for_fun Selina is training for the upcoming Edinburgh marathon. We knew everything was looking good with her training - she has mastered her aerobic running which is the foundation on which everything else is built, and we are now seeing that she is going quicker for the same effort. However, it is always nice to have a race in the calendar to get an official check on progress. Yesterday, Selina ran the Worthing half marathon #worthinghalfmarathon @worthingrunfest and she had the most amazing run! Her previous best was 1:44:32 at the Swansea half a year ago….. and yesterday she ran: ⭐️ 1:37:27 ⭐️ Wow!! That’s over 7 mins off her, and a huge new PB! She paced it perfectly, running her final three miles faster than any other miles in the race 😍 She was 13th female overall and 2nd in her age category. What a fantastic result Selina! The progress you have made over the past few months has been amazing Selina, and I am extremely proud of you. Look at the medal bling on this race… and heavy, this might get a bit of a prominent position on the blag wall. Ignoring the bling for a second. I entered #worthinghalfmarathon because I did so well at brighton half I was convinced I was going to smash out another pb, the times have just been falling lately and I was on a roll. But not every run can be a PB and my hamstring was giving me problems within 5Km in - (very annoyed with myself for getting a non running injury). From that point getting round seemed to be mind over matter, I felt physically fit but my leg wasn’t having any of it and didn’t want to lift. I almost finished disappointed but then humbled myself with the fact that I managed to a) get round in one piece and b) still achieved a time that 2 years ago I would have been absolutely ecstatic with.
