Where to begin.... Yesterday was a full day. It started Wednesday night with bowel prep, then on Thursday I swallowed a pill camera to get pictures of my full digestive tract, followed by a unit of blood, then an upper push endoscopy AND colonoscopy. My 20th colonoscopy! (I think my next one is free ๐) My colonoscopy showed that my colon and rectum are severely inflamed which is causing the bleeding and extreme blood loss. At that point steroids, medication change, and a potentially permanent ostomy were thrown out there as treatment options. Let me say that for MANY people ostomies are a positive, life-changing, and even lifesaving thing. It gives people a chance to live a much closer to "normal" life than they'd previously been able to live. I previously had an ostomy for 6 months, but for me I went from a healthy 27 year old, to waking up from a coma with an ostomy, and no say in whether or not that happened. It was the darkest, most challenging and traumatic 6 months of my life. At that point I would have rather not continue to live than have to live the rest of my life with an ostomy. Luckily I was able to have an ostomy take down, or reversal, surgery. Needless to say, the mention of an ostomy was extremely triggering and I definitely had an emotional breakdown. I was grateful that my Mom was there immediately after I received the news, and later was visited by my friend Melanie (who gifted me a very snuggly and colorful blanket), and my bestie and second Mom (who gifted me a sloth we named Headward Scissor-toes, a colorful flower arrangement in an owl vase, a Highlights magazine with rainbow pen, and a few other goodies). As fun as the gifts were, being able to talk to friends, laugh, and even cry a little, with them was really what my soul needed. Today I was told that I'd most likely need to be in the hospital through the weekend. We decided to move forward with IV steroids to treat the inflammation in my colon/rectum which will hopefully help minimize the bleeding. I think they'll wait to discharge me until there's an improvement in the bleeding. (Cont'd in comments...)

This weekend we have travelled to Ipswich for a couple of reasons. To setup my new (second hand) FA kart but mainly to get some seat time and coaching with the change from the LN kart. Today we finished installing the seat and some other small things and then got out and practiced. The kart is very different and Iโm trying my best to adjust to the change. Update #6โฆ It is with tears of joy that Iโm happy to report the results of my CT scanโฆ I have to preface this by saying I havenโt actually talked with my doctor yet but everything reads REALLY GOOD! The biggest win I believe is the tumor in my pancreas โis no longer identifiedโ. My lymph nodes look normal and my liver โhas a decrease in number and size of hypodensities consistent with improving metastatic disease.โ Which basically means my TREATMENT IS WORKING!!. ๐ฅณ I wish I could point to one thing weโve been doing and say that is the silver bullet but I really believe itโs the combination of all of it. Guess who's back... Back again... I got blood work done this morning and as suspected my hemoglobin was very low at 6. Needing a third blood transfusion within a week and a half was pretty alarming. In all my history of needing blood transfusions I've never needed 3 so close together. So after talking to my GI doc we decided it might be time to admit me to the hospital, get some blood, move up my colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, and try to figure out what's going on. So far I'm still hanging out in the ER, but they'll be taking me up to a room in the near future. Hopefully we get a better handle on what's going on ๐ค I just want to add that my ER and Internal Medicine teams have been amazing! Today is hard. After two blood transfusions last week I'm already feeling like I may need another. It's hard living in this constant state of weakness. It wears on my mental health for sure. Not being able to make plans with friends, or even knowing if/when I can go to Trader Joe's (it's my favorite grocery store), or if I'll get lightheaded trying to make a meal, or when I'll have enough strength to shower... I need to get blood work done tomorrow and already have anxiety about having enough strength to get dressed, walk up the stairs in my house, walk from the car to the lab, if I'll have a functioning vein for a blood draw, walk back to the car from the lab, and that's even WITH the help of my Mom. Well, nothing like a spinal infection to keep me from running @maraton_de_mendoza next week. Yes, I am sad to withdraw from the event after all the hard work. I am more thankful that I listened to my body and went to the doctor before getting on the plane to Argentina. Thankful I have time off to get this under control. I am proud of myself-because I am a stubborn woman and have a hard time asking for help. Thankful for my friends and family that have brought me support and love.
