It was comfort, it was happiness, it was feeling seen, and feeling encouraged to keep going. To face every hurdle head on. I loved Emma so wholeheartedly. I loved how her confidence grew over the course of the story, and more than anything: I loved when she learned to place herself first. Oh, Charlie! I loved how he learned to listen to Emma, how he made room for others opinions and how he started to let go of his cynicism. And the romance! A delicious slow burn! Every note hit just right! I love romance books and romantic comedy films because it’s not about the ending. Not really. What matters is the journey there. How we deal with the emotional stops along the way, the hurdles to overcome, and, of course, those first kisses. There will be sadness and strife, but there will also be well earned happiness and victory. It’s so comforting knowing the formula, as the book itself states: Sometimes clichés are clichés for a reason. I don’t want a subversion of expectations! I want the formula of seeing two characters fall in love and in happiness, despite all the struggles and angst, and make it to the end! I want to stand, sit, race beside them along every single step of the way. And I want to stop and enjoy every moment that makes up the entirety of this ride. oh. my. gosh. i feel like i start every book review this way, but this book deserved it. i can't count the times i cried—in sympathy, frustration, all of it. this book follows the story of a woman named sadie who's been struggling financially while she's trying to get her art career going. then comes the day she gets accepted into a prestigious art contest, and it looks like everything's going to change. until a tragic accident leaves her needing brain surgery. the surgery goes well, except for one little thing. the nerve that was operated on swelled, pressing against her FFG, leaving her with a disability known as "face blindness" meaning she can't decipher faces, unable to recognize anyone and unable to place the pieces of a face together. as a portrait artist with a painting due in six weeks, this is very serious. while she's going through a range of emotions, she's also trying to choose between two guys—her hot veterinarian and her next door neighbor who isn't as bad as he originally seemed. will she get her portrait submitted? and which guy will she choose? this book was awesome because through the story while the main character was suffering through everything imaginable, she couldn't find it in her to be optimistic—totally understandable. but as time goes on, she realizes not everything is totally and completely awful, and she starts to try to find the good in things, despite her situation. this book was so inspiring and really brought a new light on how to find good in dark times. @katherinecenter #hellostranger #katherinecenter #faceblindness #disability #books

It’s giving us hot veterinarian, bowling-jacket wearing neighbor (literally has it on all the time), Sadie’s doggie sidekick, andddddd it’s even giving us evil stepsister vibes. Katherine Center brings you an amazing main character that you just cannot help but relate to at some level. Sadie Montgomery is a struggling artist that gets nominated as a finalist in a national portrait competition. Unfortunately, the night of her big news, she gets into an accident that has caused her to not see faces. Forced to regroup and try new tactics for this completion, Sadie is led on a journey that helps her to flourish and blossom. Rekindling relationships from her past and with Family. This story takes us on a journey of love and finding one’s self. I have truly enjoyed this book. It is a fun, short read for anyone looking for something uplifting and entertaining, I highly recommend!

📖Hello Stranger by Katherine Center📖 I actually did not like this at all. (Still debating where I want this page to be only reccs and positive impressions of books). I wanted to push through and finish this one before moving onto my next read. I found the premise to be a little far-fetched, but it was the plot holes that really really irked me. Also, all of the side characters were weird or flat or uninteresting? Tbh the only redeeming character arc was that of the evil stepmother. I genuinely couldn’t be bothered to care about the main romance(s) and don’t enjoy when there are multiple potential love interests, especially with the way it played out in this book. There are so many better points of tension to write into a story. The FMC was also a little too intolerable, and the epilogue was the nail on the coffin with the weird moral preachy vibe and blatantly describing the theme. I didn’t like this book, but this author has written books that I’ve enjoyed so perhaps this is a one-off. NEW REVIEW!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) I absolutely loved the story of Sadie Montgomery and how her life turned upside down when a sudden seizure turns into a need for brain surgery, which turns into most-likely "temporary" face blindness. Sadie is a portrait artist. As a portrait artist, being able to see clearly is incredibly important to Sadie and her livelihood. In particular, being able to see faces and make them into beautifully painted portraits is her passion, her dream. So, when Sadie places into this huge, prestigious national contest, the same one her mother placed into and was working on when she unexpectedly passed away, it was the biggest news of Sadie's life thus far. This is her chance to change her life around, get her big break, and be able to move out of her "hovel" on the rooftop of her best friend's parent's apartment complex. So to have her big break within reach and then not be able to see faces... it was not the plan to say the least. Being with Sadie as she navigates life without such an important, taken-for-granted piece of her brain was a pleasure to read. Not only was this an incredibly cute rom-com between Sadie and her veterinarian and then Sadie and her downstairs neighbor, but it also included some really important life lessons. The importance of using all five senses. The importance of being kind and helpful to others. The importance of treating strangers as if they are not strangers, but friends. I truly loved this book and these characters and was sad for it to end. This was my first Katherine Center book but it definitely won't be my last. Highly recommend this read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ At first, I wasn’t feeling it, but by the end, I was totally hooked and couldn’t even remember why I had doubts in the beginning. It’s just so darn adorable and unique; a romcom with a portrait artist dealing with temporary face blindness, and a dog who eats pad thai all while being seemingly caught up in a potential love triangle! ✨Audiobook Review - Hello Stranger by Katherine Center✨ Sadie is a portrait artist and is on the cusp of the biggest achievement of her life when an unexpected series of events changes her course. It was very interesting to read about a condition I knew nothing about and this author does a fantastic job of bringing the reader into all sorts of emotions and feelings. The way Sadie processes grief, joy, confusion, complicated relationships, work, friendships and more is so heartwarming, and I loved how richly developed each character is. The issues and messages addressed pierced my soul and they all swirled together in surprising twists that left me breathless. I listened to this and especially after listening to and relating to that author’s note at the end, expressing how important romance novels are, I am a firm fan of this author. ❓What did you have for breakfast today? ‼️I just had a protein shake–I’m meeting my besties for an early (for me) lunch. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cute but slow Sadie Montgomery never saw what was coming…literally. One minute she’s celebrating her biggest achievement placing as a finalist in a huge portrait competition, and the next, she’s lying in a hospital bed after an accident, diagnosed with what she hopes is a temporary condition known as face blindness. Every face she sees is a jumble of random features. As Sadie’s life seems to be falling apart one piece at a time, with her beloved dog Peanut as her unfailing companion, she falls into love (or is it lust?) with not one, but two very different men. The timing couldn’t be worse. Sadie struggles to keep her life in focus but seeing anything clearly right now seems impossible, and she can’t always trust her new brain! Even though there are things we can only see when we aren’t looking. And there are people who show up when we least expect them. And there are always, always other ways of seeing. I wanted to love this! It was a unique storyline; I hadn’t really heard of face blindness before other than reading an article that Brad Pitt has it?! The book had a quick start and then became really slow, I didn’t become interested until about halfway through, at which point I had figured out the ending, so it was a bit predictable.
