💒💕 Review: Happily Never After 💕💒 By Lynn Painter A big thank you to @prhaudio for providing me with a #gifted copy of this audio book as part of their #alc influencer program. The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Having second thoughts about your wedding? Look no further than Max and Sophie, semi-pro wedding crashers who will object to the nuptials. But despite neither of them believing in love, perhaps the Objectors will eventually give in to the chemistry happening between them. The REVIEW: Lynn Painter, this may be the first time we’ve met as reader and author, but it certainly won’t be the last! Bestie Brittany (@bookshelf_by_britt) and I so enjoyed this one as a #buddyread. This story and its characters and the antics they got into just made me smile so much. Sophie’s cantankerous senior roommates were adorable and provided so much comedy too. The audio was so well done — loved the dual narrators! Although the ending wrapped up rather quickly for me and I would have enjoyed a bit more spice, Happily Never After was the perfect rom com palate cleanser after reading several intense, heavy books in a row. The RECOMMENDATION: If fake dating, dual POVs, and friends to lovers are your jam, add Happily Never After to your TBR! ❓Have you ever attended a wedding where someone objected to the union? Spill. The. Tea! 🤣 #botm #bookreview #bookofthemonth #bookphotography #coverlove #pinkbook #wedding #happilyneverafter #prhaudio #prhaudioinfluencer #romcom #romancebooks #lynnpainter #romcoms #momswhoread #explore #bookrecs #bossbabepresets

📖🎈Independent Bookstore Day 🎈📖 Happy Saturday and happy Independent Bookstore Day! If you’ve followed me for a bit, then you know that I’m lucky enough to have the most perfect indie just a short drive away from me: An Unlikely Story! If you live close to southeastern MA or you plan to visit the area, @anunlikelystory is a MUST visit store for book lovers of all ages! They have amazing book and gift selection, stunning decor, a sweet and well-stocked children’s section, and incredible staff. They also host fantastic author events often (I’ve seen both Alice Feeney and Ruth Ware, among others!). These pics are from my most recent impromptu drop into the store, and last year’s #independentbookstoreday. It is my great hope that I’ll be able to sneak over today as well … but those with kids in spring sports know that sometimes parent chauffeur duties get in the way of the best laid plans. 😅 ❓Will you be headed out to an Indie Bookstore Day event today? What’s your favorite independent bookstore near you or that you’ve visited?

👑 Review: The Phoenix Crown 👑 By Kate Quinn and Janie Chang A huge thank you to @bookclubgirl and @williammorrowbooks for sending #gifted copies of The Phoenix Crown to #anovelbunchbookstaclub! The RECAP: [Synopsis from Publisher] From bestselling authors Janie Chang and Kate Quinn, a thrilling and unforgettable narrative about the intertwined lives of two wronged women, spanning from the chaos of the San Francisco earthquake to the glittering palaces of Versailles. The REVIEW: I am always drawn to historical fiction told from multiple and diverse perspectives, so I feel I was already predisposed to enjoy Kate Quinn and Janie Chang’s story of two women whose lives are forever changed by the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Gemma and Suling were both complex characters, and it was interesting when their paths finally crossed in the storyline. I also found myself intrigued by the side character, the female botanist, Alice (to no one’s surprise! 👩‍🔬🤓). The scenes of the earthquake and its aftermath were intense! While the pacing slowed in certain sections, overall, I really enjoyed this dual-authored historical fiction. I will certainly be checking out both authors’ backlists ASAP! I appreciated their thorough authors’ notes as well. I look forward to chatting about this one with the #anovelbunchbookstaclub this evening. The RECOMMENDATION: If you enjoy a sweeping historical fiction tale from two POVs full of detail and intrigue, give The Phoenix Crown a try. ❓Have you ever been to San Francisco? I never have but I’d like to!

👂🤥 Review: Listen for the Lie 🤥👂 By Amy Tintera The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Five years ago, Lucy was discovered wandering the streets, covered in her dead best friend’s blood. Everyone assumes Lucy is a murderer, but Lucy has no memory of what happened. Now, a true crime podcaster has decided to investigate her case. Will his digging help Lucy unearth her memories? The REVIEW: I mean when the cover blurbs for this one have both Alice Feeney and SK singing its praises, you know it’s going to be good! Listen for the Lie is a fun and addictive read. Lucy is a snarky, clever POV as the main character, and the podcast episodes interspersed between chapters added to the intrigue of this thriller. And I would have loved a little more of Grandma Beverly — she was an amazing side character and kickass grandma! The dual narration and audiobook production quality were both excellent — I highly recommend doing this one on audio if you can! The RECOMMENDATION: If you’re in the mood for a darkly funny thriller with a sarcastic main character and podcast storyline, Listen for the Lie is the one to check out! I #buddyread this one with my bestie @bookshelf_by_britt and I’m so glad we did! And was such a great pick for our #BookcaseBeautyBookClub April book, hosted by Katelyn (@bookcasebeauty). I can’t wait to discuss it with the author in a few days! ❓I usually stick to audiobooks as my listening fuel, but I may want to dip my toe into the podcast pond soon. Any podcast recs for this newbie?

✨ Review: Ruthless Vows ✨ By Rebecca Ross The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 The RECAP: In this sequel to Divine Rivals, opposing journalists turned lovers Iris and Roman must be reunited if the war between the gods is to be stopped. The REVIEW: The romance and magic continued! While Ruthless Vows didn’t sweep me away as quickly as Divine Rivals did, I still fell under its spell. Iris and Roman will forever remain one of my favorite book couples. As she did in the first book in the duology, Rebecca Ross wrote a beautiful and magical historical fantasy — I just love her writing style! I listened to the audiobook, and both narrators did a stellar job. I don’t want to give much away, as this is the second in the duology, and Divine Rivals should absolutely be read first. I’ll just say this was a satisfying conclusion to the series for me. The RECOMMENDATION: If you enjoyed Divine Rivals, you definitely need to try Ruthless Vows! As always, I loved doing this as a #buddyread with my lovely friend @bookshelf_by_britt. We enjoyed discussing these favorite characters along the way! ❓ Do you have any favorite series? Which ones? Or do you prefer standalones?

1️⃣➡️3️⃣ Stack Challenge 1️⃣➡️3️⃣ Happy Friday, bookish folks! I’ve been seeing this fun stack challenge floating around, and Katy (@reading2relax) and Sarah (@readingasiknit) recently tagged me to do one! LUCKY! 3️⃣ Books I had with LUCKY in the title: ✨ LUCKY You ✨ How LUCKY ✨ Only If You’re LUCKY How about you? Can you find three books that share one word in their titles? Tagging a few friends to join, but everyone seeing this is welcome to try this fun stack challenge out! ❓What word do you think pops up in a lot of the titles on your shelves?

💕🔪🐦‍⬛ Review: Butcher & Blackbird 🐦‍⬛🔪💕 By Brynne Weaver The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 The RECAP: Serial killers Sloane and Rowan challenge each other to a fun game: hunting down other serial killers of course. But will these two murderers connect on more levels than their shared violent tendencies? The REVIEW: If the TV series Dexter was a rom com, this would be it. Butcher & Blackbird was so. Much. FUN. (And yes, I realize I’m saying that a gory book about serial killers with major issues is fun…that’s just me, I guess! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂). The witty banter and dual POV? On point. Friends(ish) to lovers? Nailed it. Dark and gruesome murder-y vibes? Perfection. Brynne Weaver had me entranced with Butcher & Blackbird, and with Rowan and Sloane! I really wished I had listened to the audiobook just for Rowan’s Irish accent alone! And this is door kicked wide open, peeps — the spice was so spicy I may have hidden my face while reading this at the nail salon in the pedicure chair. 🔥🌶️🫠👏 And must I say check the TWs for a serial killer romance? Brynne has about two pages worth right off the bat. 🤣 And although Ms. Weaver has forever ruined cookies and cream ice cream for me ( #IYKYK), I am still eagerly awaiting Leather & Lark come June 4! As always, I had fun doing this one as a #buddyread with my girl @bookshelf_by_britt! The RECOMMENDATION: If you’re in the mood for Dexter blended with rom com banter and spice scenes, do not miss Butcher & Blackbird. ❓Dexter is one of my all-time favorite crime TV shows, along with Mindhunter and True Detective! Do you watch crime TV shows? If you do, what’s your favorite? If you don’t, what TV show do you love?

🌈♾️ Stack for a Cause ♾️🌈 Did you know April is #autismacceptancemonth? I recently saw @kayliesbookshelf stack a rainbow (since many in the autistic community would love for the rainbow infinity loop to become the primary symbol for autism and neurodiversity acceptance) for #StackforAutismAcceptance. Kaylie also has an awesome carousel post featuring autistic authors you can read this month — I will share in stories! As mama to a son with autism, among other diagnoses, encouraging neurodiversity acceptance is near and dear to my heart. And as a teacher, I have had numerous students over the years who have been autistic or neurodivergent; we need to become a society that includes and values all of our varied neurological makeups. Autism isn’t something to be cured or fixed. My son and other autistic people are beautiful individuals just as they are. If you can, post an #AutismAcceptanceStack before the month is through! ❓What is a cause that’s close to your heart? #rainbowbookstack #rainbowbooks #neurodiversity #booksandrainbows #momswhoread #brightbooks #rainbowbookstack #pastelrainbow #paperbacks #booksinthewild #autism #autismacceptance #bossbabepresets

👩‍💼Review Tour: Anna Bright is Hiding Something👩‍💼 By Susie Orman Schnall Pub. Date: June 4, 2024 A big thank you to @BookSparks for sending me a #gifted ARC (and awesome under eye treatment patches!), and for including me in this review tour! Synopsis from Publisher: Anna Bright is committing fraud. But nobody knows it yet. Not the board of her multibillion-dollar company, not her investors, not the public breathlessly anticipating the launch of BrightSpot, and not the media—including Jamie Roman, a hardworking journalist for BusinessBerry. But when Jamie does learn about Anna’s misconduct, she embarks on a bicoastal journey to expose the crimes and make a name for herself as a journalist. It’s not long before Anna learns what the reporter is up to, however—and she’ll do anything to stop Jamie. Especially now that BrightLife’s IPO is days away. My Thoughts: Time for some Booksta honesty…I forgot this was a review tour and not a simple feature tour! 🙈😂 I worried that I wouldn’t be able to finish this one when I finally picked it up to begin this past weekend…but I shouldn’t have worried! The pace and characters of Anna Bright kept me turning pages, and I finished it in just a couple of days. This was a smart workplace drama, with an ambitious female founder and a hungry journalist as the dual POVs. It reminded me of a tech-y version of The Morning Show — lots of corporate intrigue and underhanded dealings! Speaking of TV shows, I am praying this one will get picked up because I could see it as a limited series in my mind! My Recommendation: If you love fast-paced workplace dramas featuring complex female characters, get Anna Bright on your TBR or preorder list ASAP! ❓Would you ever have a device implanted in your body if it made your life easier? That’s a major plot point of this novel…I can’t say that I would! ⚔️ Review: Throne of Glass ( #1) ⚔️ By Sarah J. Maas The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Celaena Sardothien, former assassin and current slave serving a life sentence, is summoned to the king’s castle by the Crown Prince. If she can defeat other killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will win her freedom. But evil lurks within the castle walls. Can Celaena gain her freedom before the evil creature kills her and her other competitors? The REVIEW: When my friend Kristin (@cozy.coffee.reads) suggested a #buddyread of this one, I hesitantly agreed. I never finished the ACOTAR series (not because I didn’t like it — don’t come for me, internet! 😂 I just struggle with finishing series when there are so many other books begging to be read!). But with the motivation of our little buddy read group alongside the audiobook, I finally read the first in the ToG series! I enjoyed Celaena’s story, and although this was a YA romantasy, I still enjoyed the beginnings of what is sure to be a love triangle that continues throughout the series. I was definitely getting Hunger Games vibes with the competition and the capital’s extreme wealth compared to the conquered/outlying regions of the country. I am hooked enough by the story that I want to continue listening to the series for sure! The audio version and narration were so well-done — highly recommend, especially if you’re like me and you need help with the pronunciations in a fantasy novel! 🤣 I loved reading this one with the tagged buddy reading crew — we had a fun time checking in on each other’s progress and chatting about it at the end! The RECOMMENDATION: If you are in the mood for a YA romantasy full of action and romantic intrigue, try the first Throne of Glass! ❓It’s the weekend! 🌳📖 Review: The Secret Book of Flora Lea 📖🌳 By Patti Callahan Henry The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 The RECAP: London, 1939. The blitz has started in earnest, and in an effort to save the children of the city, the government of England launches the Pied Piper campaign, to shelter children with host families in the countryside. Fourteen-year-old Hazel and her young sister Flora live a charming, magical existence with Bridie Aberdeen and her teenage son Harry…until one day when Flora vanishes while playing near the river. Twenty years later, Hazel unwraps an illustrated book called Whisperwood and the River of Stars, the magical land she created just for Flora. Hazel’s past becomes her present as she vows to find out if this book holds the truth about Flora and her disappearance. The REVIEW: I love the transporting nature of truly well-done historical fiction, and this book does just that. I knew very little about Operation Pied Piper, and learning about it from a child’s perspective was eye-opening. But The Secret Book of Flora Lea is about more than the history of 1940 and 1960. It is about sisterly and motherly love. It is about romantic love that transcends time and absence from one another. Above all, it is a story about the power of stories to heal and give hope to us all. I loved it. Patti Callahan Henry is a true storyteller, and her writing was beautiful. The narration of the audiobook was also excellent. The RECOMMENDATION: If you love historical fiction that transports you to another time and place, and if you love books about books, this one is a must read. ❓It is snowing here this morning. 🧙‍♀️Review: Heartless Hunter: The Crimson Moth Book One 🧙‍♀️ By Kristen Ciccarelli A big thank you to @prhaudio for providing me with a #gifted copy of this audio book as part of their #alc influencer program. The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (rounded to 4 on GR) The RECAP: A secret witch and a witch hunter play a game of cat-and-mouse in a society where witches and magic have been forbidden. Will a forbidden romance begin between them as well? The REVIEW: This was one of my February picks for @bookofthemonth…aren’t you all proud of me for already reading it?! 😂 Heartless Hunter had an intriguing premise, but it wasn’t my favorite romantasy I’ve read. First, I didn’t realize that it was YA when I selected it. I have nothing against YA in general and have loved many YA novels, but I think I was hoping for a little more complexity in both the writing and plot. I also think some of the more drawn out scenes could have benefitted from some editing. That being said, I enjoyed the setting and characters quite a bit, and I loved the enemies to lovers and “which brother shall I choose?” vibes. I think I will be reading Book Two for sure because the twists and cliffhangers at the end made me very curious to read on! The audio version and narration were excellent. The RECOMMENDATION: If you don’t mind a more YA-version of romantasy and you love a good witchy/magical atmosphere, give Heartless Hunter a try! 🌼🏵️⌨️Book Tour: Olivetti ⌨️🏵️🌼 Hello bookish friends! Thank you to @mackidsbooks and @storygramtours for sending me a #gifted copy of this book to feature today! I love a unique perspective in a story, and this middle grade novel from the POV of a typewriter promises just that. Olivetti By Allie Millington Publication Date: March 26, 2024 - Out Now! Synopsis: A heartfelt debut middle-grade told from the unique vantage points of a witty typewriter and an introverted boy—for fans of Wishtree and A Rover’s Story. Being a typewriter is not as easy as it looks. Surrounded by books (notorious attention hogs) and recently replaced by a computer, Olivetti has been forgotten by the Brindle family—the family he’s lived with for years. The Brindles are busy humans, apart from 12-year-old Ernest, who would rather be left alone with his collection of Oxford English Dictionaries. The least they could do was remember Olivetti once in a while, since he remembers every word they’ve typed on him. It’s a thankless job, keeping memories alive. Olivetti gets a rare glimpse of action from Ernest’s mom, Beatrice—his used-to-be most frequent visitor—only for her to drop him off at Heartland Pawn Shop and leave him helplessly behind. When Olivetti learns Beatrice has mysteriously gone missing afterward, he believes he can help find her. He breaks the only rule of the “typewriterly code” and types back to Ernest, divulging Beatrice’s memories stored inside him. Their search takes them across San Francisco—chasing clues, maybe committing a few misdemeanors. As Olivetti spills out the past, Ernest is forced to face what he and his family have been running from, The Everything That Happened. Only by working together will they find Beatrice, belonging, and the parts of themselves they’ve lost. ❓Have you ever used a typewriter? I never have! #booktour #bookfeature #booktourstop #OLIVETTI #mackidsbooks #middlegradenovel #storygramkids #momswhoread #typewriter #middlegrade #childrensbook #bossbabepresets #coverlove

💨🏝️🔫 Review: The Fury 🔫 🏝️ 💨 By Alex Michaelides A huge thank you to @celadonbooks for providing me with a #gifted copy of this ARC, and thank you to @macmillan.audio for the preview of the audiobook! The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: A group of glamorous friends head to a private Greek island to get away from it all. But their relaxing weekend takes a deadly turn… The REVIEW: Whew — the twists in this one! After a little bit of a slow burn at the start, there came a point about halfway through The Fury that I just couldn’t stop reading. I burned through this bingeable thriller in two days (thanks to those lovely short chapters!). Elliot Chase, our self-admitted unreliable narrator, is a character you love to hate. His asides to the audience worked for me, and Michaelides’ clever writing style was so enjoyable. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as The Silent Patient, but the ending chapters had me wondering what had just happened! 🤯 The RECOMMENDATION: If you’re looking for a twisty, quick psychological whodunnit with an unreliable narrator, look no further than The Fury! I #buddyread this one with my bestie @bookshelf_by_britt and I’m so glad I did! And was such a great pick for our #BookcaseBeautyBookClub March book, hosted by Katelyn (@bookcasebeauty). I can’t wait to discuss it tonight! ❓It’s Friday Eve! 🎥 Review: The Queen of Sugar Hill 🎥 By ReShonda Tate A huge thank you to @bookclubgirl and @williammorrowbooks for sending #gifted copies of The Queen of Sugar Hill to #anovelbunchbookstaclub! The RECAP: [Synopsis from Publisher] Bestselling author ReShonda Tate presents a fascinating fictional portrait of Hattie McDaniel, one of Hollywood’s most prolific but woefully underappreciated stars—and the first Black person ever to win an Oscar for her role as Mammy in the critically acclaimed classic film Gone With the Wind. The REVIEW: I love how historical fiction can truly open our eyes to events and people of the past. While I am a huge fan of classic Hollywood movies, I knew very little about the life of Hattie McDaniel. I am thankful to this book for revealing so much of her life to me. This was my first read as part of the lovely #anovelbunchbookstaclub, hosted by @therealbookhustler and @reading2relax. Chatting about the book and our thoughts was such fun. We all agreed this one, while interesting, read a bit too much like a biography and we all would have liked more development of the fiction story. The RECOMMENDATION: If you love learning facts about historical people and old Hollywood, check out The Queen of Sugar Hill. ❓Do you have a favorite classic Hollywood movie? I love Alfred Hitchcock movies — Strangers on a Train and Rear Window are two of my favorites! #bookfluencer #bookreview #historicalfiction #thequeenofsugarhill #bookclub #hollywood #booksandflowers #bookphotography #momswhoread #explore #bookrecommendations #bossbabepresets

📖 Book Feature: No Better Time 📖 Happy Monday to everyone! I’m featuring No Better Time today, and I’d like to thank @BookSparks for sending me a #gifted copy as part of their #BookSparksBookClub this month. I’m looking forward to checking this one soon as a #buddyread with my bestie @bookshelf_by_britt! No Better Time By Sheila Williams Publication Date: February 27, 2024 - Out Now! Synopsis from Publisher: The acclaimed author of The Secret Women and Things Past Telling returns with an engrossing historical novel about a little known aspect of World War II—the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only Black WACs to serve overseas during the conflict. In the wake of the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Dorothy Thom, Spelman graduate, librarian and Francophile, joins the Women’s Army Corps wanting to do her part for the war effort. Longing for adventure, she has one question for the recruiter: “Do you think I’ll get to go abroad?” In early 1945, Dorothy and eight hundred African American WACs cross the turbulent North Atlantic to their post in England. Their orders are to process the mail sent to GIs from their loved ones back home, an estimated 17 million pieces. The women arrive to find mail stockpiled for over two years in warehouses and airplane hangars, many pieces in poor condition, the names illegible. In England and France, the WACs traverse a landscape of unimagined possibilities. With their outlooks changed forever, they return to the United States as the catalysts for change in America and build lives that transcend anything their ancestors ever dreamed of. No Better Time illuminates a love of country and duty that has been overlooked until now. ❓Let’s start the week off right! 🏥 Review: The Clinic 🏥 By Cate Quinn The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: At a remote and bourgeois rehab clinic in the Pacific Northwest, a well-known celebrity dies. In search of the truth, her sister enters the clinic, posing as a patient. Will she find answers, or more mysteries? The REVIEW: Well, this popcorn thriller was just what I was craving. I loved the super short chapters and the alternating narrators. I made predictions about some, but not all, of the twists. Did I have to suspend disbelief a bit? Sure — but overall, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment. The audiobook was also well done. The author’s note made The Clinic all the more wonderful — kudos to Cate Quinn for sharing about her own path to sobriety! The RECOMMENDATION: If you are in the mood for a popcorn thriller in an isolated setting where you don’t know which characters you can trust, check out The Clinic! Loved doing this as a #buddyread pick with the tagged friends! We had such fun discussing along the way as we read! ❓We’ve made it to Friday! 👭 Review: Bright Young Women 👭 By Jessica Knoll A huge thank you to @bookclubfavorites and @simonandschuster for providing me with a #gifted copy of this book as part of their influencer program. The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: January 1978. A serial killer has been sparking terror across the Pacific Northwest, but his deeds aren’t on the radar of the young sorority girls on Florida State University’s campus in Tallahassee. But one night, he becomes a very real presence, and sorority president Pamela Schumacher is the lone eyewitness to his violent attack. Tina Cannon lives across the country, and believes this same monster was responsible for the disappearance of her lover Ruth. Together, the two women work to uncover the truth of this evil killer. The REVIEW: Bright Young Women is a unique crime fiction novel that I found so compelling. While I had of course heard the name of the serial killer (only referred to as the Defendant in this book), I admit I did not know much about the details of Ted Bundy’s crimes. While this isn’t a true crime book, the story and characters are inspired by Bundy’s crimes. This story flips the narrative and focuses on the aftermath of the crimes from the victims’ points of view. I love how the author told the story from two points of view and two timelines; it added so much depth. I also found myself so angry reading parts of this book, as women were often not heard or flat-out dismissed by the 1970s law enforcement, legal system, and other people in power. The audiobook was well-done too! I would have loved a little more of an author’s note, as I found myself googling so many details to see what was factual and what was fictional. (Obviously, given the nature of the crimes, massive TWs, so check @the.storygraph!). The RECOMMENDATION: If you love crime fiction, multiple POVs, and unique story structure, check out Bright Young Women. I #buddyread this one with my bestie @bookshelf_by_britt and I’m so glad I did! I am excited this one is also the March pick for @thegrimbookclub hosted by Carissa (@the.grim.readers)—I just know it will be an amazing discussion! ❓It’s Friday Eve! What’s coming up over the weekend for you?

📚 Aardvark March Challenge 📚 Welcome to the weekend, Booksta friends! Can I just say that I absolutely love the monthly challenges that @aardvarkbookclub comes up with? March’s challenge is to stack up some books from your favorite genre or sub-genre. I am a true genre hopper, but lately I’ve been drawn to historical fiction. And I may be making up a sub-genre here, but my favorite HF books often feature badass female MCs! 💃🏽💪 And hey, it’s appropriate that I’m posting this stack during Women’s History Month, right? Here’s what I stacked for my historical fiction featuring strong, fearless females! ❤️ The Women by @kristinhannahauthor (Frankie ➕ Barb➕ Ethel 🟰 😍😍😍) 🧡 Lessons in Chemistry by @bonnie_garmus_author (Elizabeth Zott is my STEMinist fictional idol!) 💛 Let Us Descend by @jesmynward (This is the only one from the stack still on my TBR, but I cannot wait to read Annis’ story!) 💚 Weyward by @emiliahartbooks (Altha…Violet…Kate. 🥹 🧙 I adored all the Weywards!) 🩵 Black Cake by @charmspen1 (Eleanor and Benny sang as characters!!) 💜 The House of Eve by @sadeqasays (Ruby and Eleanor will always have a piece of my heart. 🥹) ❓As I was stacking my books, I realized they made a (sort of) version of a rainbow! So I had to add my little St. Patrick’s Day sign atop it…will you be celebrating tomorrow? ☘️

☀️🌟 Review: The Sun is Also a Star 🌟☀️ By Nicola Yoon The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Natasha is a teenage girl in NYC who believes in science and facts. One fact she’s trying to change? Her family is getting deported that evening, back to Jamaica. Daniel always follows the path his Korean parents have designed for him. Until a chance meeting with Natasha changes his entire mindset. Will their future paths align? The REVIEW: I enjoyed so much of The Sun is Also a Star. I loved both Natasha and Daniel, and their opposite perspectives on life (who doesn’t love a scientist-romantic poet mashup?). I absolutely adored that Nicola Yoon included snippets and perspectives from minor characters (even those who only enter the story for just a brief moment!) and about science, love, and life. It really enhanced the theme of empathy and perspective-taking woven throughout the novel. To me, Yoon ended the story in the perfect realistic yet romantic way. I did find some of the way the teenaged characters spoke to be a bit unbelievable, but it didn’t detract from my overall feelings about this one. The audio had multiple narrators and was well done. I was excited to check another #backlistBOTM off my list to start this month! The RECOMMENDATION: If you enjoy a YA romance featuring deep themes and multiple perspectives, read The Sun is Also a Star! ❓This book explores the idea of multiverses, which is the theory that beyond our observable universe, many possible universes/histories/timelines may exist. Do you think multiverses could be possible? It’s so interesting to ponder! #audiobook #thesunisalsoastar #momswhoread #ya #backlistbook #bookofthemonth #ireadya #readdiversebooks #ownvoices #booksaremagic #bossbabepresets #explorepage #botmbacklist

🐺🥼 Review: The Fake Mate 🥼🐺 By Lana Ferguson A big thank you to @prhaudio for providing me with a #gifted copy of this audio book as part of their #alc influencer program. The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Dr. Mackenzie Carter is tired of two things: bad dates and her grandmother hounding her to find another nice shifter to settle down with. She’s so tired that she accidentally blurts out that she’s dating Dr. Noah Taylor, an interventional cardiologist and shifter who is also known for being a mega grump. Noah, an alpha who is trying to hide this status for career reasons, either needs to come clean or find a mate. Noah and Mackenzie realize they can solve both of their problems by agreeing to be fake mates. But could this fake couplehood turn into something much more real? The REVIEW: I had fun with this one! After reading Bride last month, I was curious to explore more paranormal romance — and this book fit that bill! The Fake Mate has some of my favorite tropes: grumpy-sunshine, fake dating, and workplace/hospital romance. The steam was steaming quite a bit…errm, make that quite a LOT. 🔥 Wide open door, complete with 🪢 ( #iykyk). 😳😂 The chemistry between Mackenzie and Noah was palpable, though I would have loved a little more banter and a bit more plot mixed in with the steam. But overall, a super fun romance read — and the audio was excellent (Joe Arden may be my new favorite male narrator!). The RECOMMENDATION: Read The Fake Mate if you’re a fan of grumpy-sunshine and fake dating, and shifter steam! So thankful to my bestie @bookshelf_by_britt for not only convincing me to order my first @aardvarkbookclub box for this one, but doing this as a #buddyread with me as well! ❓Happy weekend! 📚 Aardvark February Challenge 📚 Welcome to Monday, peeps. It’s going to be an absolutely bonkers week around these parts, so what better way to begin the week than with a pretty book stack? Now that I subscribe to @aardvarkbookclub, I am eager to take part in their monthly stack challenges! February’s challenge is all about love and romance, and here’s what I stacked! 👏 A book that’s underrated and deserves more hype: The Door of No Return by Kwame Alexander (Yes, it’s marketed as YA, but this novel in verse is one of the most powerful stories I’ve ever read. Read it, people!) 📚 My most loved Aardvark pick so far: This one’s easy — The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson! One of my top reads last year. 🤯 A book with a romance plot I was not expecting — The twists in the love life of Frankie, the MC in Kristin Hannah’s The Women, just kept coming! ❤️‍🔥 The last book I LOVED — The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon was the first book I read in 2024 and it may well be my favorite book all year. I loved Martha and everything about her story. 😏 A book where I’d want to date one of the MCs — Ali Hazelwood gives us so many choices for datable MCs, but Jack from Love, Theoretically stands out in my mind. 🤩 🤦🏼‍♀️ A book that includes the miscommunication trope — I enjoyed Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez…but I did not love the 75 pages or so of miscommunication between the two MCs! Good thing the rest of the book was 🔥😍 [Now if @aardvarkbookclub can only forgive me for using so many BOTM editions in my stack! 😂] ❓I’m curious about what would be your answer for some of the prompts above! Pick one and tell me your choice! #bookbox #aardvarkbookclub #bookstack #momswhoread #bookstackchallenge #thewomen #lovetheoretically #bookbox #thehouseofeve #thedoorofnoreturn #thefrozenriver #yourstruly #booksaremagic #bossbabepresets #explorepage #bookrecommendations #redbooks

🌵✨🐎 Review: The Bullet Swallower 🐎✨🌵 By Elizabeth Gonzalez James A huge thank you to @BookSparks for sending me a #gifted copy of The Bullet Swallower as part of their #BookSparksBookClub pick The RECAP: [Synopsis from Publisher] A dazzling magical realism western in the vein of Cormac McCarthy meets Gabriel García Márquez, The Bullet Swallower follows a Mexican bandido as he sets off for Texas to save his family, only to encounter a mysterious figure who has come, finally, to collect a cosmic debt generations in the making. A family saga that’s epic in scope and magical in its blood, and based loosely on the author’s own great-grandfather, The Bullet Swallower tackles border politics, intergenerational trauma, and the legacies of racism and colonialism in a lush setting and stunning prose that asks who pays for the sins of our ancestors, and whether it is possible to be better than our forebears. The REVIEW: While I’m not typically drawn to the Western genre in books and movies, I appreciate what Elizabeth Gonzalez James has accomplished with The Bullet Swallower. It is a family saga and a revenge quest, with dustings of magical realism throughout its pages. El Tragabalas is such a memorable character, and actually based on the author’s own great-grandfather (loved reading that in the author’s note!). As the author of the Sonoro family biography within these pages says, “It is a hard thing to be a good man.” Gonzalez James thoroughly explores the themes of the nature of good vs. evil and overcoming our family’s past sins. The Texas and Mexico settings were described beautifully too. The RECOMMENDATION: If you love a revenge quest or a Western adventure with a magical realism twist, check out The Bullet Swallower. ❓Are you a fan of the western genre in movies or books? #bookfluencer #bookreview #western #thebulletswallower #bookclub #elizabethgonzalezjames #magicalrealism #booksparks #botwxbs #bookphotography #momswhoread #explore #bookrecommendations #bossbabepresets

👽🤖 Review: Sleeping Giants 🤖👽 By Sylvain Neuvel A giant (get it?) thank you to @prhaudio for providing me with a #gifted copy of this audio book as part of their #alc influencer program. The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Seventeen years ago, a girl named Rose goes out for a bike ride and doesn’t return home. The search team finds her, sitting at the bottom of a crater, atop a giant silver hand. In the present day, a team of scientists work together to uncover the mysteries of this hand in a secret research facility, led by Rose herself, now a highly trained physicist. What will they discover? And what of the enigmatic interviewer of the team, who seems to know so much, but reveals so little about himself? The REVIEW: This sci-fi novel was just plain fun, and I’m sorry it’s been a #backlistBOTM on my shelf since 2016! 🙈 I was so pleasantly surprised by this one — its format (mainly interview transcripts and journal entries) made it perfect to listen to on audio. With a full cast of fantastic narrators, this may be one of the most entertaining audiobooks I’ve ever listened to! This is an action-packed novel full of science and intrigue, and its fast pace never lets up. There’s even a little romance mixed in! The ending made me gasp and left me excited to read the second novel in the series. The RECOMMENDATION: If you want an action-packed blockbuster of a sci-fi novel, read (or better yet, listen to!) Sleeping Giants! ❓We’re headed to Disney on Ice today with the kiddoes! 🏚️ Review: The Reformatory 🏚️ By Tananarive Due The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Gracetown, Florida, 1950. Twelve-year-old Robert Stephens, Jr. is sentenced to a six-month stay at the Gracetown School for Boys after kicking the son of a prominent white landowner, while coming to the defense of his older sister. What follows is a terrifying journey, full of haints that haunt the school buildings, and real-life horrors that are far worse than the ghostly memories of the dead. The REVIEW: After finishing this book more than a week ago, I feel I still do not have adequate words to write a review. The Reformatory left me emotionally drained, disgusted, and horrified…and not by the ghosts within its pages. The historical horrors of the Gracetown School for Boys are based on a very real institution, the Dozier School for Boys in Florida (which only closed in 2011?! 🤯). The descriptions of the atrocities were so challenging to read, so please go into this fully aware of the content warnings. My heart broke again and again for Robert and his sister Gloria. Tananarive Due is an immensely talented author; the research and heart that went into this story shone through her writing. Her author’s note brought me to tears. There are so many layers to this one, and it is a powerful story I am glad I read. The audiobook narration was also excellent. The RECOMMENDATION: If you’re ready for a powerful reading experience of a historical horror novel, read The Reformatory. I #buddyread this one with the tagged friends, and I’m so glad I did — it helped to be able to process it all after we had finished. I am excited this one is also the February pick for @thegrimbookclub hosted by Carissa (@the.grim.readers)—so much to unpack with this one. ❓It’s Thursday! 💕 Review: Dating Dr. Dil 💕 By Nisha Sharma The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: In this South Asian reimagining of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, Kareena Mann dreams of a love match similar to her parents, but in order to save her family’s beloved home, she may have to get engaged stat, love match or not. Dr. Prem Verma needs money for his community health center, and demonstrating his stability with an engagement may just win over donors with deep pockets. Will this love-averse doctor and hopeless romantic be able to help each other by faking it? Or will true love blossom? The REVIEW: I really enjoyed Dating Dr. Dil — fake dating, enemies-to-lovers, and major steam scenes? Yes please! While I was not immediately drawn into the story in the beginning, this quickly changed once the sparks began flying between Kareena and Prem! I was fascinated by Nisha Sharma’s portrait of the South Asian culture surrounding love and marriage; we got glimpses of aunties setting up online dating profiles, and the weighing out of pros and cons between love matches and arranged matches by characters within the story. Also — this story made me hungry for good Indian food! 🤤 Overall, a highly enjoyable rom com. I will definitely be checking out more books by Nisha Sharma! As always, I had fun doing this one as a #buddyread with my girl @bookshelf_by_britt! The RECOMMENDATION: If you’d like a sizzling rom com with enemies-to-lovers and fake dating tropes, definitely try out Dating Dr. Dil! I was excited to check this one off as my first 2024 #backlistBOTM title, as this is my major goal in the #ClearintheNewYear challenge hosted by @katieg.reads_ and @brittnisbookclub! ❓This is one of the few pink books I have and it makes me want more! 🇮🇪 Review: One Night on the Island 🇮🇪 By Josie Silver A huge thank you to @prhaudio for providing me with a #gifted copy of this audio book as part of their #alc influencer program. The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: In anticipation of her thirtieth birthday, Cleo’s boss sends her to a remote Irish island to explore the idea of self-coupling for her online dating column. The cabin is rustic but perfect for self-reflection and self-discovery. But when she arrives, someone else has staked a claim on the cabin: Mac, a photographer from Boston whose family life is falling apart. Can Cleo and Mac figure out a way to coexist…or will they do more than simply share a living space? The REVIEW: This is my third Josie Silver in recent months, and I just love her trademark blend of emotional depth and romance and witty banter. The fictional setting of Salvation Island was incredible; it made me want to travel to Ireland stat! When a setting feels almost like another character, it makes me so much more invested. Cleo and Mac were both well-developed, and I fell for their enemies-to-lovers dynamic from the start. The side characters on the island were quirky and I always enjoy a found family trope in a book. There were definitely tough emotions and themes tackled in this book, which made the romance all the more realistic to me. The audio was great, with a male and female narrator for each MC. The RECOMMENDATION: If you love forced proximity and a remote/small town setting and some emotional depth to your romances, definitely check out One Night on the Island! ❓Do you have an author that you’ve discovered recently that you’re loving?
