Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera I love podcasts. I love books. A book that revolves around a podcast and has transcripts of the podcast throughout? Yes, please! Lucy may be responsible for her best friend’s murder 5 years ago - or maybe not, she just doesn’t remember. She ran off to Los Angeles and pretty much wrote off her past life. Until a true crime podcaster pops up causing her more problems. So she’s going to have to have to go back to her hometown to figure out what really happened and who hurt Savvy. Because it wasn’t her - or was it? Thank you so much to Celadon for my early copy! This one just released at the beginning of March, so you can still be one of the first readers! QOTD: Lucy doesn’t remember the night her friend died (I mean, reasonable). But in general, how’s your memory? Mine is so strange. I can still sing you commercials from decades ago, but I probably couldn’t tell you what I was doing 10 minutes ago. #listenforthelie #amytintera @amytintera #celadon @celadonbooks #celadonbooks #arc #newrelease #newbooks #2024release #march #podcasts #hometown #truecrimepodcast #novel #fiction #podcasttranscripts #bookstagram #reading #books #mystery #lies #amnesia #currentlyreading #bookreview #readingrecommendations #RebeccaReviewedIt #celadonreads

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I liked it, I didn’t love it. Amber Young gets the dream life when she gets signed to be the next big pop star. Or so she thinks. Mainly set from 1997-2003, Honey tells a fictional tale of the ups and downs of fame during that time period. Being a huge fan of Britney, Christina, Mandy, Jessica and all the boy bands during this time, it was fun to see the little detail come alive again. Mentions of leather pants, juicy tracksuits, shimmer eye shadow, Nokia phones and even a tamagotchi threw me back into my childhood. It felt a little repetitive to me though and I think it’s because I have already read TJR’s Daisy Jones and the Six which I LOVED and this felt already done, including the same idea of using lyrics to aide in telling the characters stories. I also expected there to be more dark side (which there was some) but nothing unexpected or surprising, especially given the time period and Ambers age. My favorite part of this book was discussing and reminiscing the old days with my Book Buddies set up by @celadonbooks with the Read Together Initiative. It has been so fun talking with them about the book! @lindsey.the.librarian @steffislibrary @winesaboutbooks I would recommend this book to any women’s fiction readers or pop music lovers…or anyone who hasnt already read Daisy Jones 😂 Pub Date: June 25th #celadonreadstogether #celadonreads #readtogetherinitiative #honeybook #readhoney #celadonbooks #arcreads #bookreview #mayreads #popstars #femalepopstars

❄️ COVER REVEAL ❄️ A masterfully written debut, PENITENCE by Kristin Koval (@mountainjoy24) is a sweeping novel that follows the lives of two estranged families in rural Colorado after an unimaginable tragedy forces them back together. For readers of @AnnPatchett and @CelesteNg, PENITENCE is a timely story of hope in the face of blame and remorse. It’s both an addictive page-turner and a literary reflection on the boundaries of forgiveness that compels readers to consider whether each of us is more than the worst thing we’ve ever done. “Dark yet deeply human and brimming with impossible questions, this book had me hooked from the start!” –Megan Mertens, @steamboat_books (Steamboat Springs, CO) “PENITENCE is a tragically contemplative novel. Can we ever outrun the sins of our past?” –Mary O’Malley, @skylarkbookshop (Columbia, MO) “Debut author Kristin Koval’s family drama is beautifully executed with great compassion and benevolence…” –Pamela Klinger-Horn, @valleybookseller (Stillwater, MN) “A heartaching drama you can’t put down.” –Mollie Mitchell, @hearthfire_books (Evergreen, CO) “Koval is a new author who has already hit her mark!” –Linda Hodges, @fictionaddictionbookstore (Greenville, SC) “This is a book that will live in your soul long after the last page is read.” –Marilyn Robbins, @thebookiesbookstore (Denver, CO) Coming February 18, 2025. 💅Book Review💅 The Manicurist’s Daughter by Susan Lieu ⭐️⭐️⭐️½/5 Thank you to Celadon Book and NetGalley for this eARC! I enjoyed this one for the most part, but did have just a couple technical issues with it: I found the storyline to be meandering and a bit confusing at times. An idea/situation would be introduced, then we’d move on, come back to it, move on, go back to a different one, and so on and so forth. It did make it feel a little disconnected and repetitive at times. Because of this, I was struggling to get through this and ended up listening on audio to finish the book. I really think audio is the way to consume this story - it’s narrated by the author and she delivers the story well. It was much more engaging and I also liked getting to hear the proper Vietnamese pronunciations, both with words and names, rather than struggling to figure them out in my head. Now let’s talk about what worked for me: I really loved the story of Susan connecting with her father and how through this journey of understanding her deceased mother, she was also able to find understanding with her father and heal their bond and relationship. You also see growth in all of her family members because of her persistence in learning about her mother and I thought that aspect of this memoir was really great. Susan seemed to learn a lot about herself as well while trying to learn about her mother and I loved the moment towards the end when she finally directly confronts a family member for making comments about her body. I found what she said to be very simple yet powerful and it very much needed to be said. It was a full circle moment tying us back to the main reason behind her mother’s death (beauty standards) and connecting it directly to Susan herself. I also loved the stories she tells about visiting Vietnam and her family’s journey from Vietnam to America - they were and are incredibly strong and brave people. Overall, I do think this is an important story with a lot of things that need to be discussed widely and openly, I just didn’t think it was written perfectly. Regardless, I still recommend this, especially on audio!

Granite Harbor By Peter Nichols In scenic Granite Harbor, life has continued on―quiet and serene―for decades. That is until a local teenager is found brutally murdered in the Settlement, the town’s historic archaeological site. Alex Brangwen, adjusting to life as a single father with a failed career as a novelist, is the town’s sole detective. This is his first murder case and, as both a parent and detective, Alex knows the people of Granite Harbor are looking to him to catch the killer and temper the fear that has descended over the town. 💭 Writer turned detective, Alex, is leading the case on the murder of a local teen boy. This story has several characters, but I found them to be well developed and interesting. I found it to be a slow start, but the story picks up as another murder is discovered. A scared small town is left wondering if their children are safe while struggling to figure out who the killer could be. Add in some family drama and Alex sure has his hands full. A little graphic at times, but found this story to be interesting! I had a physical copy, ebook, and audio and found myself using all three! Thank you @celadonbooks for my gifted copy! #CeladonBooks #CeladonReads #GraniteHarbor #PeterNichols #Netgalley #NetgalleyAudio #bookreview #bookrec #instabooks #reader

This book was recommended as “one of my favorites”, and yes, I can see why! Devil Is Fine by John Vercher @jverchwrites From acclaimed novelist John Vercher, a profoundly moving novel of what it means to be a father, a son, a writer, and a biracial American fighting to reconcile the past.

Reeling from the sudden death of his teenage son, our narrator receives a letter from an attorney: he has just inherited a plot of land from his estranged grandfather. He travels to a beach town several hours south of his home to immediately sell the land. But upon inspection, what lies beneath the dirt is much more than he can process in the throes of grief. As a biracial Black man struggling with the many facets of his identity, he’s now the owner of a former plantation passed down by the men on his white mother’s side of the family.

Vercher deftly blurs the lines between real and imagined, past and present, tragedy and humor, and fathers and sons in this story of discovery—and a fight for reclamation—of a painful past. With the wit of Paul Beatty’s The Sellout and the nuance of Zadie Smith’s On Beauty, Devil Is Fine is a darkly funny and brilliantly crafted dissection of the legacies we leave behind and those we inherit. 📚The Manicurist Daughter📚 Susan Lieu Memoir Susan’s Mom was the center of her family, their business and her 11-year-old world when she died unexpectedly from a botched tummy tuck. Susan was left confused and searching for answers for the next 3 decades. This memoir follows her journey to find answers from a family who doesn’t want to talk about it. Susan’s family immigrated to the US from Viet Nam. Culturally, it was difficult for them to talk about her Mom’s death. And Susan’s questions went deeper than just how she died, but delved into why did her beautiful Mom feel she needed a tummy tuck? Susan is bipolar and suffers from a strained relationship with food. Could she share more in common with her mom than she thinks? This memoir covers the a lot of hard topics: the immigrant experience, a distorted relationship with food, grief and family dynamics. Several times I wanted to stop the writer and ask some questions about the narrative especially around her visit to Viet Nam and her relationship with her dad. As I’ve stated many times before, I don’t rate memoirs as it seems strange to rate someone’s story. I read a lot of memoirs and this one is different. It is a compelling story of family and finding answers to find yourself. Thank you to @celandonbooks for this Advanced Reader Copy. My review for #DevilIsFine. It's a longer one, so this is even more abridged version. I received an ARC copy of this book from @CeladonBooks for this review. When I finished reading Devil is Fine by John Vercher, I had so many initial thoughts that it made it difficult to summarize what I felt about it. And I didn't even know where to start. The story revolves around the unnamed narrator's identity and the throes of that. While it mostly seemed to pertain to his professional life and having to deal with owning a plantation, it was also carefully woven into a story about a man dealing with grief and somehow coming to terms with where he is in life. Another thing I noticed was the writing. It's in first person and begins shortly before the burial of the narrator's son, Malcolm. From the beginning to the end, the main character often thinks of and addresses him while chronicling his ongoing life. ...it is mainly through occasional chapters in between that showed who Malcolm was growing up. I honestly wasn't sure how I felt about these chapters at first. But, about half way through, I felt it both added to and left breathing room from the tension that was building throughout the book. Speaking of that tension, I was constantly on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Some of the story was predictable for me. But there were parts that weren't at all. The conclusion and ending are an examples of both of these feelings... It is at this point the character growth is fully realized with many truths coming to light. As for the last pages, the end? Well, it was a tear jerker. As a whole, I truly liked Devil is Fine. The surreal nature of it, dialogue, complicated relationships, and even the tougher, more serious tones mixed with some lighter ones. All that to say, it became a page turner and I really enjoyed reading it. You can find the rest on my blog through my linktree. #CeladonReads #ARCReview

🎧 𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗢𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪 🎧 Thank you so much to @macmillan.audio @celadonbooks and @netgalley for the ALC/ARC! 𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲: Granite Harbor 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿: Peter Nichols 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿: Peter Ganim 𝗣𝘂𝗯 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: April 30, 2024 🔹 𝙈𝙮 𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 🔹 This murder mystery is not for the faint of heart! There is a gruesome, dark element to the mystery in this book. A small coastal town in Maine is on edge when a local teenager is found brutally murdered. The new local detective and novelist, Alex, has his first murder case to solve. Alex is divorced and has a teenage daughter the same age as the murder victim. Also in town is Isabel, who works at the local Settlement where the murder happened. She is a single mother to a teenage boy who was best friends with the murdered teen. Both single parents have something of help to offer in solving this case. I read and listened to this on audio. The many POVs in this book was a little confusing at times, so I was glad to have the book to flip through when I needed to. The subject of this was a little gruesome for me to read at times, and the story behind the reason the killer and why he was performing these murders in this specific way was a little out there for me to read about. I don’t know if I just didn’t connect well with it or just didn’t like the dark nature of it all. 🎧 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 🎧 Peter Ganim did a good job narrating the story. He had an accent, which was great for the POV of Alex, who came from England. Ganim was easy to understand and he made the story flow well in his narration. 🎧 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚: 🔹 Sinister Murder Mystery 🔹 Ritualistic Murders 🔹 Coastal Maine Setting 🔹 Police Procedural ••••• 🔹 What is the last book you finished? ••••• 🏷️ #bookstagram #bookreview #audiobooks #macmillianaudio #MacAudio2024 #netgalley #celadon #celadonreads #graniteharbor #peternichols

Huge thank you to @celadonbooks for providing me with the copy of Granite Harbor by Peter Nichols! Publication Date: April 30, 2024! Granite Harbor is a dark crime thriller set in a small coastal town in Maine. When a local teenager is found murdered, Detective Alex Brangwen will do everything in his power to catch the killer before another person falls victim. I tore through the second half of this book. It had a mild build up, but there was a point at which I couldn’t put it down. The killer and motive aside- I think the most fascinating thing about this book is the small town dynamic and navigating relationships for the main characters. The story follows a few different characters, but my favorites were Alex, the detective, and Isabel, the mother of a teenage boy in the town. It’s probably because they were the main protagonists. I especially enjoyed the way these characters approached navigating their respective relationships with their teenagers. The chapters are short, and the structure provides for a quick and gripping read. It took me awhile to get into it, but read the second half in one sitting because I couldn’t stop! If you enjoy dark crime thrillers, this one’s for you! Thank you, again, to @celadonbooks TW: There is a depiction of animal cruelty in one chapter. #graniteharbor #celadonbooks #celadonreads #crimethriller #bookreview #bookrec #bookreviews #booksbooksbooks #bookishpost #gaybookstagrammer #gayswhoread #guyswhoread #menwhoread #bookguy

A special perk for Little Free Libraries is access to new books from authors and publishers. Today we are featuring: ✨💅The Manicurist's Daughter!✨ Special thanks to @CeladonBooks and big congrats to author @SusanLieu on your first book! As a Steward of a little free library, I get many free books but this is BY FAR the most thoughtful book giveaway that I have ever received. I didn't just get a book in the mail. I received a letter from both the publisher and the author along with postcards that reflects Susan's desire to share her story and Vietnamese culture with the world. WOW and thank you for such thoughtfulness. I received this book in late March, but didn't want to write a review until I finished the whole book because it was important to me (as someone who is also Vietnamese and has many Manicurists in the family) to give an accurate description of her life story. Now I can truly confirm why it took her so long to write this! The amount of accuracy in the translation in some of the conversations alone is impressive. I can also fully relate to many things that Susan shared as a manicurist's daughter. Our story is different, but all shared the same raw truth about wanting to connect to our immigrant parents who all have personal struggles. There are many other topics about family, siblings, motherhood, marriage, and jobs that she covered in her book as well - that anyone can relate. Susan's memoir is authentically heartbreaking throughout, unbelievable in some parts, and sprinkled with unexpected humor that confirms her humanity in those moments of triumph and defeat. Everyone needs to read Susan's story because everybody has a manicurist... they have amazing untold stories like this. I'm so happy to have read Susan's story and I hope you take time to read it too! #themanicuristsdaughter #celadonreads #littlefreelibrary #littlelibraryironwood #readincolorlittlefreelibrary #littlefreelibrarylosangeles #littlefreelibrariesofcalifornia #littlelibrariesofinstagram #littlefreelibrarystewards

Thriller Thursday and happy publication week to this thriller! Granite Harbor Author - Peter Nichols Publisher - @celadonbooks Pub Date - April 29th, 2024 Synopsis: In scenic Granite Harbor, life has continued on - quiet and serene-for decades. That is until a local teenager is found brutally murdered in the Settlement, the town’s historic archaeological site. This is his first murder case and, as both a parent and detective, Alex knows the people of Granite Harbor are looking to him to catch the killer and temper the fear that has descended over the town. As Alex and Isabel race to find the killer in their midst, the town’s secrets— past and present-begin bubbling to the surface, threatening to unravel the tight-knit community. What I Thought: This was a slow burn for me. At first, there were a ton of characters and I had a hard time keeping everyone straight and I just didn’t feel a connection. I almost put it down but I did keep reading. The second half picked up a lot and I started to follow the people and follow what was happening. Overall, I ended up liking the book, especially once I got to the second half. The chapters were short and it was a quick read. Puppy Brain, by Kerry Nichols Pub Date: April 30/24 @celadonbooks Puppy love!! This book is FULL of great information and resources about our furry and adorable companions - puppies! There is literally a chapter on every stage and development of a puppy and beyond. Because once a puppy #alwaysapuppy Even though my own doggo is now 2 there was still a lot of great tidbits which had me #dogearing my copy! (See what I did there 🐶) I appreciated the authors take on training foundations and adolescence - definitely a fuzzy area and timeframe. “Puppyhood is like the daily training for an Ironman, And adolescence is the actual race.” I think Oscar likes being in this stage a little too much! But he is also our very own emotional support pupper and household comedian - it’s all about balance. And treats - so many treats! NEW RELEASE: Granite Harbor DROPS TODAY! #BOOKREVIEW Thank you, @celadonbooks and #peternichols for the ARC! Dark, immersive, and equally gruesome, this was the perfect mystery/thriller, “whodunit” vibe, with character narratives that were well thought out and a plot line that will keep you turning the pages. In scenic Granite Harbor, life has continued on―quiet and serene―for decades. What unfolds is beyond what anyone could have imagined. While the identity of the killer was not entirely unpredictable, I absolutely enjoyed the suspenseful build-up, the bombshell plot twists along the way, and the dark, atmospheric vibe. I finished this one in less than 2 days! #GraniteHarbor is now available wherever books are sold! Puppy Brain by Kerry Nichols 🐶🧠 As soon as I saw the sweetest little puppy on the cover of this novel, I was sold. When Celadon sent me a copy, I just assumed it would be a light little fluffy book about sweet puppies and how much we love them. But it’s so much more than that. This author goes DEEP into scientific studies, day by day developmental milestones, choosing the right dog breed for you, training, and raising a long-term happy pup. I’m sure if you were so inclined, you could sit down and read this cover to cover, but I see this more as reference material. You can flip back to where you are in your relationship with your pup, read what you’re wanting to work on, and go from there. I think if you’re ready to get a puppy, this book could be very helpful in getting you prepared for what to expect. And of course, I LOVED all the photos of the doggies at the beginning of each chapter. It’s like a sweet little treat to get you excited to jump into each chapter. My pups are definitely not considered puppies anymore, but they’re still puppies in my heart. This one publishes TODAY, so happy pub day! Thank you so much to Celadon for my copy! Happy Pub Day! The cover alone makes me want a puppy! And with this book, I’d have a better chance of actually training the pup. For now, I’ll have to get by with two spoiled rotten pooches, the litter box-trained bunny, and yes, a duck. I had great intentions of potty training Webster too but who knew? Ducks don’t have sphincters and can’t control their potty breaks. I digress… Puppy Brain: How Our Dogs Learn, Think, and Love by Kerry Nichols is out today! How do you raise a happy, healthy, and emotionally resilient dog? Full of actionable guidance, Puppy Brain will show you how to create a harmonious, fulfilling relationship with your pet.

Want to learn how to help your dog feel safe? Do you dream of owning a dog who enjoys meeting new people and places? Kerry Nichols, founder of Nicholberry Goldens, goes from the whelping box to the frontlines of a puppy’s development with her trademark clarity and wit.

With guidance about everything from crate training to spaying and neutering, Puppy Brain distills the latest insights and breakthroughs from canine research into practical, actionable, evidence-based guidance.

Through years of research into brain development and intentional rearing that focus on honoring a puppy’s choices and needs, Kerry developed an approach that results in a harmonious relationship. Puppy Brain will reshape the way you think about your dog and how to meet your dog’s most basic needs.

With irresistible photos, guidance, and engaging humor, Puppy Brain reveals the best training practices based on your dog’s mind. Kerry’s guidance will help raise dogs who are confident, loving, and happy. The perfect gift for dog lovers, Puppy Brain is the resource for anyone looking to raise their puppy with respect and love. 🌊Book Review🌊 Granite Harbor by Peter Nichols ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Thanks so much to @celadonbooks for the gifted ARC! OUT TOMORROW 4/30! I was so excited to read this psychological thriller set in my home state of Maine and I flew through it in two days. I enjoyed the alternating timelines/POVs and was hooked on the chapters featuring our killer’s childhood - it gave us an inside look on how this particular serial killer was created. I found these chapters to be super engaging and engrossing; I always needed to know what was going to come next. In the present, we see these extremely bizarre and ritualistic murders that make little sense to us until we get through enough of those flashback chapters. I was worried initially that we weren’t going to get a suitable enough explanation for the killer’s MO, but it is all explained. It was all very strange and unique and that alone is reason enough for me to recommend this to other readers. Now, I didn’t totally love our main character, Alex, who is the local detective. I found him to be a bit bland. This definitely seemed to be on purpose and a part of his characteristics, but I still would have liked to have something more for me to connect to him. Thankfully, some of the other characters were more likable so I had something to hold on to. I was able to predict the killer super early on; it seemed very obvious who it was. I would have liked to have been in the dark for longer than I was. ***MINOR SPOILER AHEAD*** This could have been a solid four-star read for me if it weren’t for how this case is solved in the end. It felt like an absolute cop out (no pun intended), like the author couldn’t find another way to get to the end in time with everything else going on in the story so he just added….clairvoyance. It was majorly disappointing and far too convenient. ***END SPOILER*** Overall, if you love dark psychological thrillers and twisted serial killers with a touch of familial drama, this could be for you!

Thank you to @celadonbooks for this gifted ARC of Granite Harbor by Peter Nichols! This twisty murder mystery thriller will keep you on your toes and it comes out tomorrow, April 30th! 👀 Premise: In scenic Granite Harbor, life has continued on—quiet and serene—for decades.

Isabel, a single mother attempting to support her family while healing from her own demons, finds herself in the middle of the case when she begins working at the Settlement. Her son, Ethan, and Alex’s daughter, Sophie, were best friends with the victim. When a second teenager is found murdered, the body left in the same manner as the first victim, both parents are terrified that their child may be next. As Alex and Isabel race to find the killer in their midst, the town’s secrets—past and present—begin bubbling to the surface, threatening to unravel the tight-knit community.

At once a page-turning thriller and a captivating portrait of the social fabric of a small town, Granite Harbor evokes the atmosphere of HBO’s Mare of Easttown with a villain reminiscent of Thomas Harris’s Silence of the Lambs

The Manicurist’s Daughter by Susan Lieu In this memoir, Lieu goes searching for answers. Her mother, who once owned two nail salons, died after receiving a tummy tuck when Susan was just a child. Her father, widowed, was left with 4 children that he never dreamed of being the sole provider for. She goes to college, possibly joins some type of cult, and wrestles with her feelings towards her father, who she felt held too tight of a control over her. She starts doing shows and lists out the questions she wishes she could ask her mom. It’s an interesting story about Susan coming to grips with why her mother would have even undergone the tummy tuck operation that ended her life. I also really enjoyed the Vietnamese words and phrases throughout (and their translated meanings). Thank you so much to Celadon for my copy! Puppy Brain by Kerry Nichols Publication date April 30, 2024 Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Everyone contemplating getting a dog, puppy or adult, should read this book. Kerry Nichols, formerly an attorney, now a breeder of golden retrievers, has developed an approach that results in a rewarding beneficial relationship with dogs, rather than one based on rote obedience. Nichols bases her advice on the science of brain development and the premise that dogs are not people, nor teddy bears, nor pet rocks: "We must remember that they are not human. We must give them permission to be a different species and not only allow them to behave accordingly but modify our behavior accordingly." She is an advocate for dogs and does not espouse outdated training methods based on pain, fear or dominance theory. I enjoyed the descriptions of the science of brain elasticity in puppies and how early experiences can influence dogs for years to come. Nichols provides the practical advice needed to raise a happy, confident, well socialized dog and to develop the mindset needed to accomplish this goal. Puppy Brain is well written, meticulously researched and provides the reader with the benefit of the author's years of experience owning and raising dogs. 🇪🇸We dropped off my eldest son this morning to fly to Barcelona for a few months. I am feeling happy for him and sad for me. 📚It’s been a while since I asked people to shout out some of their favourite publishers. @celadonbooks is one of mine. I have had success with every book they have ever sent me. Tell me who some of your favourite publishers are. 🪼Devil is Fine by @jverchwrites Having just finished reading Devil is Fine by John Vercher my feelings are complicated. I had expectations about what this book was about and it began solidly on that path until it didn’t and veered into magical realism. I found myself wondering what I had gotten myself into but then was also so drawn to the writing quality. I began to feel the paralysis and pain the narrator feels. Guilt for not having had conversations with his son before he died, finding himself talking to the ‘ghost’ of his son, and sharing his feelings of grief and guilt with others, all felt relatable to me. The story, in which an unnamed biracial narrator is grieving the recent loss of his seventeen year old son and who then inherits a plantation from his white mother’s side of the family, is told in a style that is very meta. A book within a book and a man within his ancestors. The metaphors and imagery were strong and vivid. My focus became more centred as the story continued with a fluid feeling. Overall, while I was expecting a story of identity and connection to colonialism, I wasn’t expecting it to be told in such a way but it all landed well and with success. Thank you to @celadonbooks and @netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions. Five years ago, a small Texas town was rocked by the murder of one of their own. Savannah aka Savvy was beautiful and smart, and ultimately, a big loss for the community. In present day, despite the town’s objections, Savvy’s death technically remains unsolved. However, given that her best friend Lucy, was seen roaming the streets at the time, covered in Savvy’s blood, a lot of the locals consider the case to be unofficially closed. Even more perplexing? Everyone seems to suspect Lucy, including Lucy herself, her memories of the night failing her completely. Enter Ben Owens, host of the true crime podcast, “Listen for the Lie,” which has listeners taking a deep dive into what really happened that night. With Lucy reluctantly returning home for a family event, speculation once again swirls. But Ben is committed to setting the record straight by scoring what no one else could before- Lucy’s side of the story. Together, they attempt to get to the truth, but is it too late to get others to truly listen? Listen For the Lie is perfect for fans of podcasts and true crime. Although this is a work of fiction, this read like a mashup of None of This Is True meets Serial. I started off reading this in physical format, but if you can snag the audio with Matt Damon lending his voice as Ben Owens, I highly suggest you do so for a more immersive experience. A thrill ride from start to finish, the ending left me a little confused. Despite this, Listen For the Lie is a true treat. 📚 LFL DROP DAY 📚 A huge thank you goes out to @celadonbooks for allowing me to participate in my very first #lfldropday! Ever since I moved into this neighborhood two years ago, I’ve been wanting to contribute to the fabulous #littlefreelibrary right down my street in Clay, NY and this was the perfect opportunity! #GraniteHarbor is the latest from author #peternichols and this one is about a small town in coastal Maine that gets shaken to its core by a serial killer 😱 The publisher compares this one to #mareofeasttown with a villain reminiscent of #thesilenceofthelambs so if THAT isn’t enough to get you intrigued…take a look at this atmospheric cover! 😍 hurry over to this LFL if you want to get a chance to read this ARC before it comes out on April 30th! #bookworm #bookloversofinstagram #bookstagram #newbookstagrammer #celadonreads #partner #thrillerreader

It's Little Free Library drop for Granite Harbor by @peternicholsauthor This one releases April 30th! Thank you @celadonbooks & @littlefreelibrary for the books! I was lucky enough to get 2 copies so I dropped one at home and one when on vacation after I finished the book! I actually took a week off IG and it was wonderful to have that break, do you ever take breaks? It definitely makes it more enjoyable coming back!! Grab this book if you are a thriller/serial killer reader like me!!! In scenic Granite Harbor, life has continued on―quiet and serene―for decades. Isabel, a single mother attempting to support her family while healing from her own demons, finds herself in the middle of the case when she begins working at the Settlement. Her son, Ethan, and Alex’s daughter, Sophie, were best friends with the victim. When a second body is found, both parents are terrified that their child may be next. As Alex and Isabel race to find the killer in their midst, the town’s secrets―past and present―begin bubbling to the surface, threatening to unravel the tight-knit community. #graniteharbour #littlefreelibrary #celadonreads #thursdaythrillers #arcreading #beachreading

🐶 I have loved some wonderful dogs in my lifetime and not one of them was very well-behaved. I think Nichols’ book would have been very helpful. I am passing it on to my rambunctious granddog’s owners! 🤣 🐶 Puppy Brain: How Our Dogs Learn, Think, and Love by Kerry Nichols is a fascinating book about guiding your dog to be a great member of your family. Thank you to @celadonbooks for this opportunity! 🐶 “With guidance about everything from crate training to spaying and neutering, Puppy Brain distills the latest insights and breakthroughs from canine research into practical, actionable, evidence-based guidance. Through years of research into brain development and the use of intentional rearing protocols that focus on honoring a puppy’s choices and needs, Kerry has developed an approach that results in a harmonious, fulfilling relationship with our dogs rather than one steeped in rote obedience. Puppy Brain will reshape the way you think about your dog and show you how to meet your dog’s most basic needs. With irresistible photos, clear guidance, and engaging humor, Puppy Brain reveals the best training practices based on how your dog’s mind works. As her hundreds of thousands of followers can attest, Kerry’s guidance will help you raise dogs who are confident, loving, and happy. The perfect gift for dog lovers and psychology enthusiasts alike, Puppy Brain is the definitive resource for anyone looking to raise their puppy with respect and love.” 🐶 What is your favorite name for a pet? Mine right now is Stuart. 💕

🩵 Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn 🩵 🗓️ Day 23 #oldschoolapril24 #sicksadapril M.A.S.H. Game - Fortune telling I could never have predicted how late I would be with this review.  It was my first 5 star read of ‘24, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. Now, I know plenty of people don't care for this author/book/main character. Some people seem to hate one or the other so much, I can almost see flames. Believe me, I went into it with very low expectations. The blurb had me rolling my eyes. Like it was trying way too hard to convince me it was different from every other murder mystery. Just like every other murder mystery. At first, it reminded me of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone - which I did not love, despite all the meta-ness of it (which I almost always love) - and I was a little bit bored. But then, a few chapters in - whoosh! Like getting hit by a wave. The game was up. The author is pranking us, and I'm thinking, either I have a quirky sense of humor, or maybe some people just didn't get the joke. I LOVE the way the narrator is written. He is stupidly optimistic and totally unreliable. A drama-obsessed weasel with delusions of grandeur, and I thought he was absolutely hilarious. And all the allusion! I could compose countless Instagram captions filled with the connections and clues I caught and could conjure from this book. But, to make a long story short…before I get too carried away…I can sum up everything I loved about The Fury in three glorious words, “It’s theatre, dahling!” Thank you @celadonbooks for the physical copy QOTD: Did you play the M.A.S.H. game when you were a kid? Did any of your childhood wishes come true?  I had some big dreams, and things certainly didn't turn out quite the way I would have liked. But, even when I'm sad, I'm still kinda happy.   🎶 Cause getting your dreams…it's strange, but it seems…a little…well…complicated. There's a kind of a sort of…cost. There's a couple of things get…lost. There are bridges you cross, you didn't know you crossed, until you've crossed… But…happy is what happens when your dreams come true 🎶  🎈 Swipe for more stuff

✨Book Review✨ The Fury by Alex Michaelides My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Fury follows a group of friends to a small Greek island. While there, tensions arise and one member of the group is found dead. A murder has occurred and the culprit must be found. This was my first book by this author and I was drawn into his creative style of writing. In his unique writing style, he turned a thriller into a play. The characters were likably unlikeable and the story had engaging plot twists and flips. Michaelides left Easter eggs throughout the story alluding to the ending, but still purposefully left the reader a bit surprised and confused at the end. Thank you @celadonbooks for my gifted copy of this book! ✨QOTD: What 3 items would you need to bring on an island getaway?✨ #Bookstagram #Bookstagrammer #BookReview #ReadTheFury #CeladonReads #CeladonBooks #TheFury #BooksBooksAndMoreBooks #Bibliophile #BookPhotography #Shelfie #BookHoarder

👂🤥 Review: Listen for the Lie 🤥👂 By Amy Tintera The RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The RECAP: Five years ago, Lucy was discovered wandering the streets, covered in her dead best friend’s blood. Everyone assumes Lucy is a murderer, but Lucy has no memory of what happened. Now, a true crime podcaster has decided to investigate her case. Will his digging help Lucy unearth her memories? The REVIEW: I mean when the cover blurbs for this one have both Alice Feeney and SK singing its praises, you know it’s going to be good! Listen for the Lie is a fun and addictive read. Lucy is a snarky, clever POV as the main character, and the podcast episodes interspersed between chapters added to the intrigue of this thriller. And I would have loved a little more of Grandma Beverly — she was an amazing side character and kickass grandma! The dual narration and audiobook production quality were both excellent — I highly recommend doing this one on audio if you can! The RECOMMENDATION: If you’re in the mood for a darkly funny thriller with a sarcastic main character and podcast storyline, Listen for the Lie is the one to check out! I #buddyread this one with my bestie @bookshelf_by_britt and I’m so glad we did! And was such a great pick for our #BookcaseBeautyBookClub April book, hosted by Katelyn (@bookcasebeauty). I can’t wait to discuss it with the author in a few days! ❓I usually stick to audiobooks as my listening fuel, but I may want to dip my toe into the podcast pond soon. Any podcast recs for this newbie?

Thanks so much to @celadonbooks and @bookishfirst for the ARC of Granite Harbor by Peter Nichols! I also ended up with an ALC via @netgalley which is awesome so I got to sample both. As always, all opinions are my own This is a complicated book about a serial killer preying on teens in a small, coastal town in Maine. It's not tourist season yet so we get to focus on the parents and teens and things that make a community tick. Failure and second changes and teens being teens, all that. The most interesting part to me is the English main character staying in America and making the best of his situation as a failed author by becoming a detective. It was hard not to root for him. The thing is that the killer has his own chapters too so we get to see what made him so batsh!t crazy. It's ... Ah, well, content warnings for animal and child abuse. It was a bit over the top feeling at times where the author is talented enough to not need the shock value. I also thought we were following a few too many side characters but it worked out in the end. Would recommend this one for not-squeamish fans of police procedurals and suspense books 👀😅 Full thoughts up on my blog ❤️ as always, all opinions are my own #GraniteHarbor #celadonbooks #celadonreads #celadonreader #policeprocedural #thrillers #suspense #readallthebooks #multigenrereader
