Yesterday, a client and I were chatting about the 'Not Enoughs'. I said that most of us have a little metaphorical Devil on one shoulder and a kind, encouraging Angel on the other. At times, we ignore the taunts and whispers of the nasty, horned bully and tune into the Angel and feel like we're enough. Other times, we let him take over, and despite all of our strengths, gifts and achievements, we get sucked into the belief that somehow, we are just not enough. Perhaps the Little Devil has been there a long time and we've kind of forgotten or disconnected from our Little Kind Angel. Even people who, by all standards would be deemed 'successful' have their Not Enoughs, as demonstrated by published author, Matt Haig, in his title "The Comfort Book". This talented man has written over 25 books (I loved the Midnight Library!) but it's clear that at times, he succumbs to the Human Condition - the belief that somehow, deep inside, we are not enough. Some of his Not Enoughs point to the snobbery of the publishing world ("not Oxford enough"/"not posh enough") but others are more generic - "not thin enough", "not strong enough" and the most common, subconscious limiting belief in the human population - "I'm not good enough". As always, Awareness is powerful... So I invite you to reflect on what your 'Not Enoughs' are... how discouraging, mean and inaccurate they are. And today, to gently, peacefully and gracefully, as much as you can, let them go.... Choose to listen to the Angel/Good Guy/Voice of Encouragement instead. The more we listen to this side of our psyche, the more we can and do achieve. (Ironic, isn't it?!) Repeat after me: I AM ENOUGH. Happy Friday 💚🌟 #emotionalwellbeingcoach #lifecoachingonline #lifecoachuk #managingmentalhealth

This is not a spelling error. Keeping it real - sometimes a mental health concept can be hard to wrap your head around (no pun intended). For me, self-love is one of those—it eludes me. But all is not lost. If you struggle with self-love, head over to substack and check out “Grist for the Mill.” Weeding, Rumi, the Dalai Lama, and a little cognitive dissonance. (3/3) This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Movement is essential for our mental health. Moving more can increase energy, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost self-esteem. But so many of us struggle to move enough. Join us in this series of images that explore how movement can improve our mental health.   Head in Hole:   🪴To help with her depression, Dulcie Wagstaff works in her garden. On this winter’s day, she confronted the cold with a summery floral dress and imagined burying herself, “connecting with the earth whilst hiding from the world above.” 🌼 She says: “Gardening in winter is a defiant act against the elements and our human instinct to stay indoors in the short, dark days. However, in this instance, it is a lifeline, in search of light, connection, movement and purpose.”     📍 Brighton, UK 📷️ @dulciewagstaff   @mentalhealthfoundation #MomentsForMovement #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #ManagingMentalHealth #Depression #LivedExperience #Gardening #Movement #Nature #Winter #WPP21 #SelfPortrait #Portrait #PortraitPhotography

Are you struggling with emotional overwhelm? Being completely engulfed with your thoughts and emotions of the day-to-day challenges to the point of feeling stuck or frozen? Emotional overwhelm can happen when we experience stress, traumatic life experiences, attachment traumas, relationship or work issues, and much more. Usually, this emotional overwhelm shows up through negative emotions such as anger, sadness, shame, fear or guilt. This happens when the intensity of the emotion feels bigger than our capacity to manage them. Signs of emotional overwhelm to look out for: *You have a disproportionate emotional response to a situation that doesn’t match the significance of the event or experience *Being flooded with emotions such as anger, shame, fear or guilt as a response to the source of overwhelm *You have trouble focusing or concentrating on the task at hand *You feel fatigued, tired or low energy *You find yourself withdrawing from those around you or declining invitations to events If this sounds like you, please know that your experiences and feelings are valid. If you don’t have a trusted loved one or friend to support you through these difficulties, here are a few ways I can help you: *Explore and support understanding of the root cause of the overwhelming emotions *Build your capacity to accept these thoughts and feelings as a natural part of life and use them to acceptance as a resource to work through the discomfort *Look at ways to self-soothe *Address current stressors that contribute to overwhelm *Learn new coping strategies to help manage stresses out of your control If you would like to find out more information or book in a counselling session with me, please send me a DM or click on the link in my bio to access to my website. Our latest collab is looking so fab! My name is Savana West,[she/her] My mental health has been pretty bad over the last few years. Especially my anxiety. I started having anxiety attacks when i was 14, They started just one every few months, then it was one to two every month, and at one point it became almost daily. Figuring out ways to cope was and still can be very hard. I've learned some techniques, some work better than others. Now, i was homeschooled my entire life, Cool right? Yes, to a point. Except, i didn't have many social interactions until i was 14. I started doing theatre, which has been an absolute life changer. I found a passion for the stage and made some of the greatest friends ever! Now, I'm a lot better at socializing and have definitely found many things that help me.such as: Candlelit baths, music, dancing, cleaning etc. I have a lot more days with less anxiety, All thanks to my amazing circle of people who care, and have helped me find a light in the dark. Mental Health is hard, scary, and exhausting...to say the least. But it IS possible to cope. it IS possible to manage. You just have to find what best works for YOU. I know, Easier said than done. But it IS possible. REMEMBER: Be who you want to be, not who you're expected to be. It's okay to feel stuck, one day at a time. You'll figure out the rest along the way. #positivity #managingmentalhealth #sheher

It is definitely possible to lead a happy life with a mental health illness or problems, though it may require discipline, self-reliance, perseverance, and a remarkable amount of support from friends and family. Everyone is different, and while some may manage their mental health problems with ease, others may have more difficulty, and may require more support. Today is Blue Monday, apparently the most depressing day of the year. Thankfully, it isn’t real, it was just invented by some marketing company, but if you are feeling a little down today here are some top tips to alleviate your mood! 1. Do some physical activity – while you might not feel like it exercise can be very effective in lifting your mood and increasing your energy levels. 2. Get outside – Try taking a short walk at lunchtime to get a much needed dose of light and fresh air, it can do wonders for your mood. 3. Get creative – creative activities are particularly therapeutic because they help you switch off from day-to-day pressures, whether it’s knitting, drawing, sewing or gardening, they can be great to turn negative thoughts into something positive 4. Eat well – As tempting as it is to eat comfort food eating lots of foods high in fat can cause blood sugar levels to crash resulting in sluggishness. Try include lots of fresh fruits and veg as well as fatty oils in fish. . . . . #bluemonday #studenthealth #studentmentalhealth #universitymentalhealth #healthylifestyle #managingmentalhealth #stokestudentliving #studentaccommodation #studentliving #studenthomes #studenthousing #studentsofig

New year, new #FastFactFriday ! ✨🤍 When you are stressed, your mind may flood with thoughts about the future and all the things you have to do. Rather than focusing at one thing at a time, these thoughts become repetitive and bombard your mind all at once. One way to combat this is to talk about your stressors. Put things into perspective and try to ease your mind into thinking about one worry at a time. Any one or more of these signs can feel like going down a dark spiral. But the good part is - it is your mind and body's way of nudging you towards self-care and other actions that fill you and your environment with love. Oxytocin is the glue of relationships. Feeling distant from loved ones? Think of 2 things you appreciate about them and share it with them. Low on energy and motivation? Get a massage, walk in the soft, morning sun and write down 5 things you appreciate about yourself and the world around you. Take a break from work if need be. Struggling with anxiety or insomnia? Try to incorporate meditation, yoga, massages, and other mindfulness activities in your routine. Recognising the signs is the first step to bring back the balance. Simple acts of self-care and connection can reignite the love hormone, paving the way for emotional well-being. #mentalhealthworks #oxytocinhacks #emotionalwellbeing #fillyourcup #managingemotions #managingmentalhealth #brainchemicals #mentalhealthtalks

Grateful that I get to see another year in on this planet. Every year has the good stuff, fun stuff, celebrations, laughter and successes. And… Every year also has the not so good stuff, sadness, loss, tears and life lessons. In the famous words of @rokeating ‘life is a rollercoaster, just got to ride it.’ All I know for sure is I felt better in myself this year than I did last year. I spent time with more people, I had holidays, I walked more and got clear about how I want to live my life. There was also a trapped nerve, loss and diabetes. So 2024 let’s see what you bring for me and those around me. The year-end weather can be cold, not just on your skin… so when you keep yourself warm and cup full of love, you have everything you need to enjoy! Funny how these festivities are marked exactly when you need them the most… As the mercury lowers, it makes way for seasonal anxiety and depression – which is more common than you think. Often, it is credited to a lack of serotonin and oxytocin in the body. So the ultimate way to beat the seasonal lows is to keep them balanced. And what better way than to get together with family, with friends, and take a little extra care of yourself while soaking in the soft winter sun…? How are you filling your cup these days? #mentalhealthworks #oxytocinhacks #emotionalwellbeing #fillyourcup #managingemotions #managingmentalhealth #brainchemicals #mentalhealthtalks

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and behave, how we handle stress, relate to others, view the world, understand ourselves and our ability to make healthy/helpful choices. We are constantly bombarded with images, information, advertising and conversations about looking after our physical health - so why aren’t we talking about how to support our mental health in the same way???? After all our physical and mental health is not seperate, but intricately intertwined, what happens to one will have a flow on effect to the other. Taking care of your mental health is crucial for overall well-being. Here are five ways you can work towards supporting your mental health right now. 1. Prioritise self care 2. Build a support system 3. Practice mindfulness 4. Set realistic goals 5. Healthy boundaries But please remember that mental health is a dynamic, ever changing and individualised aspect of well-being. We are all amazing and unique individuals so what works for one person, may not work for another and that is ok. What works for us in one season of our lives, may not be helpful in another, and that is also okay. This is why it is so important to make time to check in with yourself so you can learn how to be attuned to your own mental state and your own needs. Regular self reflection and making adjustments to your routine as needed are essential for improving and maintaining your mental health over time. And if you find yourself struggling, please reach out to a health professional for support. We all need some extra supports sometimes. #katelandetecounselling #counselling #counsellor #wellness #wellbeing #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #support #confidential #connection #community #therapist #talktherapy #managingmentalhealth

The power of 💥and💥!! Two opposing truths can co-exist. One truth does not have to cancel out the other. It’s creating space for both truths that is often the must difficult part. What we can do is start by acknowledging that opposing ideas can be true at the same time, and we can move forward despite our discomfort. I use this pretty much daily with my patients 🤗 #mentalhealthadvocate #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthexpert #anxietyrelief #anxietysupport #mentalhealth #selfcarefirst #selfcarefirst #mentalhealthtips #therapytips #intherapy #therapistsofinstagram #therapist #takecareofyourself #tipsfromatherapist #healthychoices #therapyworks #mentalhealthadvocacy #takingcareofme #managingmentalhealth #therapiststhoughts #psychotherapist #psychology #psychologyblogger
