The Soodle Street Ethos ~ Yesterday we shared a short bio about one of our makers, the excellent Caitlín Law, AKA @soodlestreetstudio. Today we wanted to share a little more about how she goes about creating her original collages. Core to the process is being as kind to the planet as possible in both process and the resulting product. Each illustration is hand-collaged from discarded paper that would otherwise be thrown away. Favourite materials include junk mail, advertising leaflets and old magazines. Caitlín has a passion for encouraging the ideals of designing for durability as well as repurposing and recycling materials to keep products circulating – an ethos we value highly at the shop. This idea of a ‘circular economy’ is intended to be regenerative and restorative for all – and is much better for the environment. Put simply it means that materials flow continuously around a 'closed loop' system instead of being used once and then discarded. Constantly being inspired by @jaimmykoroma (if you aren’t following her, go do it right now) and her posts… her summer body one stuck with me and I had to give my own a try… especially since all I’m seeing are posts about how to lose that weight in time for summer. Ugh… no more please. There will never be enough reminders that our bodies are ok as they are when we are constantly bombarded by advertisements telling us that we have something wrong with our bodies… which there isn’t anything wrong with our bodies by the way. This is my reminder that whatever body I am currently in, is a summer body. The body you exist in right in this moment deserves to experience summer free of shame or guilt! This probably looks like nothing to most people. I was concerned at first to see her standing there (due to safely purposes). Then I waited to see why she actually stood on the chair by herself. Dallas stood up from sitting in the chair to stand on it just to grab a toy that was too high for her to reach without standing on the chair. To see her understand something that is so easy for the average person is so huge. These little accomplishments make me so proud of her. She has come so far, and over the past 6 months we have definitely started to see her start to understand so much more in her own way. In the past she would have looked up and moved on and forgot about what ever it was she looked at out of her reach. Instead she saw it and figured out a way to get it all on her own. Brut- und Setzzeit 🦌 Kurz zum Foto: einfach typisch Nuni. 🤭 Beim Fotoshooting mit @majeoli_photography meinte Jenni, ich solle Aleo zwischen zwei Ästen positionieren. Im ersten Augenblick fand Aleo das etwas gruselig, wie man an seinem Blick unschwer erkennen kann. Nach 1-2 Sekunden war es dann aber vollkommen in Ordnung. 😎 Unser Sensibelchen. 💜 Jetzt zum eigentlichen Thema: der Brut- und Setzzeit. Für mich persönlich sollten in diesem Zeitraum alle Hunde (und erst recht diejenigen, die auch nur ansatzweise ❗️jagdliches Verhalten zeigen) an der Leine geführt werden. Meiner Meinung nach kann man sich wenigstens in den paar Monaten an die Leinenpflicht halten, den Hund an der Schleppleine führen und somit anderen Tieren gegenüber Rücksicht zeigen. Oft kommt das Argument, dass der eigene Hund immer und überall abrufbar sei. Ich muss ja immer etwas schmunzeln, wenn jemand behauptet, dass der Hund zu 100% und in absolut jeder Situation abrufbar ist. Das ist ja sehr oft auch Definitionssache. 😬 Für mich hört Tierliebe nicht beim eigenen Hund auf! Wie seht ihr das?☺️✍🏻

Soodle Street AKA Caitlín Law @soodlestreetstudio Over the next couple of posts we wanted to share Caitlín’s work, talk a little about her ethos and approach to creating her Soodle Street paper-collage illustrations. Originally from Hertfordshire, Caitlín now lives in Norwich. Since relocating to Norfolk she studied for a Masters in History of Art from the UEA and it was during her studies Soodle Street was born. Inspired by man made city-scapes, the natural world and delightfully well observed still life, she painstakingly creates wholesome and playful responses to her source materials with recycled paper. Amongst many things we love about Caitlín’s work, it is the name, Soodle Street! Today we learned its definition is almost as satisfying as the word! When my wife is at work she does long days and is out from just after the boys wake up to just before they go to bed. As such, my days with them are quite regimented. There isn’t anyone to take Morty (the greyhound) for a walk or watch Toby during his nap so we have to be out twice a day come rain or shine and stay in during Toby’s post-lunch snooze. When we're out on our walks Toby gets a bit short-changed. I’ve got Morty on the lead and Finlay is running free so whilst Toby could walk, it’s just too difficult to get around a dog walk with both of the boys wandering off. He’ll get his freedom soon enough. We wander along, stopping for Morty and running to catch Finlay up, with Toby leaning out, pointing and saying (in a very adorable small boy way) “What’s that?”. If you say “duck”, he’ll say “quack”. He’s a wonderful age. In Dawlish, there’s a child-friendly walking trail with little activity stations dotted along it. This one is a mock beehive-style thing with a mirror at the top. We stop at it almost every time we walk past so Finlay can play with the bee counters and I can check on Toby in the mirror. Despite the look on his face, he does love bees and mirrors so this is kind of the perfect design for him. When we get back from our morning walk, it’s pretty much straight into making lunch and putting Toby down. There isn’t a moment when I’m not with one of them and few moments where one of them isn’t climbing on me or directly attached. They are intense days. Would it be nice to have a break? Of course. Do I want to change anything about my time with them? Nope. La novela es cortita, intensa y llena de grandes momentos. Es cierto que hay conductas posesivas, algo de violencia explicita pero también muchos momentos de ternura.
