**Time for a Family Break in Infamous Whitby** Well, it's time to take a break away with the family, and this year we've decided to head to the infamous Whitby (synonymous with Dracula's visit to the UK in that story). But alas, it's England, so it's raining. Anyway, family time means no laptop. I can edit to my heart's content but not write, other than brief ideas or notes. It's too easy to get lost in the writing process, so it's important not to let it become consuming. Okay, cute story time. Brian and I were on a walk today when he found a piece of sidewalk chalk. He grabbed it and used it to draw a "good luck" spot so I could "recharge" my good luck. For context, even though I'm a trained scientist, I tend to be a bit superstitious. So he's been devising positive rituals for me to help me feel better about doing things that scare me. Earlier in the spring, we had found a circle labeled "good luck spot" at the entrance to the bike trail, and I stood in the spot to harness the supposed luck. Visit the Lake District, @cupofteajones said... and who was I to say no? Of course, @strangecombination was 100 percent willing to indulge in shenanigans. In no coherent order at all, here are some moments from a trip that doesn't quite describe words.. to a place that ctually requires several more trips to fully appreciate. Windemere, Coniston, and a lot of pokey little spots in betweel... from hikes into the hills to blissful gondola rides over pristine waters, a special side-trip for the famed Grasmere gingerbread, and way more sheep than I was willing to document... here are some of the little highlights of our adventure. Thought I’d share a little update since I’ve been a wee bit quiet lately 👻 The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind! With get-togethers with friends & celebrations with family, my life would be busy enough. But add in a few visits to the doctor & I have become exhausted. One visit was just routine, but I’ve had two that have popped up for something a little more concerning. It’s not anything life-threatening, but it has caused my writing to slow down a bit. We all know it’s okay to take breaks, but there are times when you honestly don’t want to. You’re in a groove, in the flow of things, & yet, your body forces you to stop. Tuesday is cake day on our writing retreats 🍰 Our writers today were treated to this beauty from @greatparkfarm. A Victoria sponge with fresh strawberries and raspberries, decorated with a rose 🌹 Great Park Farm is a short scenic walk from the cabins via Powdermill Woods. It has a farm shop where you can stock up on fresh bread and evening meals, and a lovely cafe - perfect for afternoon tea and cake ☕🫖🧁

I took a break between chapter edits this afternoon to enjoy a fantastic walk at one of our neighborhood parks. In the first picture if you scroll way in above my hat you can see the condo towers of Greater Vancouver off in the distance. If you follow the horizon to the right past the island with the antenna poking up out of it you will see the snow covered volcano Mt. Baker over in Washington State (FYI-still classified as active with the last eruption in 1843). As a side bonus I discovered a possible new writing studio. Daniel always pays really close attention to things I like in stores and is very good and sneaking surprises to me all the time. When we left on our trip, I told him I thought maybe I'd look for one of those happy/sad reversible octopuses this year, but when I saw the price tag (and... they were not soft. They were very stuffed) Yesterday in the store, I decided I didn't want them. Finished both #book 3 and the third movie in the #mazerunner #trilogy . Bits from the third book were actually put in the second movie, as I discovered. And much was changed for the third movie. Although, I feel the alterations made the two important deaths in the movie that much more poignant. The journey I went on from book one, the struggle to keep going during the slow second book, led me to cry during the last movie. We are privileged to have family that live close to Deep Cove in North Vancouver, and we spent a lovely morning sipping tea with them by the water. This west coast trip has been a nice break from physically writing, and I am finding it is filling my creativity cup again. I have the start of a new poem in my head from this vacation, and I am hoping to tease more ideas out once I get back home. Although I don't think I needed to travel across the country to fill my cup, my own lesson is that sometimes in order to create meaningfully and work towards completing a project, you actually need to take a break, care for yourself, and let your mind wander across the beauty of a landscape.
