60 years ago today, The Lucy Show episode “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” aired. Lucy helps Jerry with his cub scout nature craft project on bugs and accidentally lets loose his prized find: a royal white butterfly. Lucy assures her son she will get him the butterfly and that results in chaos during a dinner at her conservative beau’s boss’ home and running through town with a butterfly net while in her bathrobe. Lucy’s series often incorporated the names of people associated with the show and this was a frequent occurrence throughout the first season of The Lucy Show, particularly in this episode. Lucy’s new boyfriend, played by Philip Carey, is Howard McClay, named after Desilu’s publicity director. McClay is a lawyer at the firm Donahue, Pomerantz and Lombardi. Carl Benton Reid portrayed Jack Donahue, named for the series director, while Charlie Pomerantz was Lucy’s publicist and Joe Lombardi was in charge of special effects for the show. “Lucy and the Runaway Butterfly” featured Lucy’s best pal Mary Wickes in her first Lucy Show appearance. Her character was named Mrs. Wickenhauser, which was Mary’s actual last name at birth. Mary last appeared in the classic I Love Lucy “The Ballet” in 1952. Y quieren quitármelo también". 🎬 Glenn Ford a Broderick Crawford en 'Drama en presidio' ('Convicted', 1950) 🇺🇸 Qué bueno es poder seguir disfrutando de buenas películas aún por descubrir, como este drama carcelario protagonizado por dos excelentes actores como son Broderick Crawford y Glenn Ford. #GlennFord por el que habréis comprobado mi predilección desde niño, su actuación en 'Cimarron' (1960) me marcaría para siempre, tiene una prolífica carrera que va más allá de su famosa bofetada a #RitaHayworth en 'Gilda', prodigándose tanto en el western como en el cine negro, como es el caso que nos ocupa. Aquí da vida a un hombre bueno, al que la mala fortuna, le lleva a cometer un homicidio imprudente al defender a una mujer y ser condenado a prisión por ello. Siendo la suya una interpretación contenida, cuyo rostro refleja el drama de estar entre rejas. Decía que mala fortuna, porque además la víctima es el hijo de un personaje relevante y porque da con un formidable fiscal, como es el que interpreta #BroderickCrawford, que frente a la mesura de Ford, despliega extrovertidamente toda su carga interpretativa y literalmente acapara el protagonismo de cada escena en la que aparece (merece la pena escuchar su potente voz en versión original). No es un fiscal al uso y eso es lo que le hace aún más interesante. Las pullas que le mete al abogado defensor de Ford por la torpe manera en que defiende a su cliente, son demoledoras. Watched #TheLittleFoxes (1941) : William Wyler's Underrated Gem with advanced level intellectualism in Family Drama adds more fuel in the legacy the Greatest Actress of the time. Greed! Five letters that could define your entire life in both negative and positive way. Wanna know why and how? Then watch this underrated gem master William Wyler. It wasn't the first time then, but bringing an advanced level intellectualism in a regular genre like Family drama was definitely a first time thing for silver screen. Of course there were couple of other known classics but i personally found them overrated hence, The Little Foxes gets the crown. BETTE DAVIS! What a legendary actress she was. And what remarkable roles she had done. I mean sometimes those films were not that great but her performance always stood out. I am glad that The Little Foxes worth the level of her performance unlike some other underwhelming flicks of her with the same Wyler. The ruthless, moneyed Hubbard clan lives in, and poisons, their part of the deep South at the turn of the twentieth century. The film has some dialogues which may not hit you hard but leave you a small wound of poke whicch you'll remember later sometimes. It's a big philosophy about the world, the greedy people and the people who just stood and watched it all happening. There's lot which cannot be mentioned here to spoil your fun. Performances of all the actors are fine but that young cute girl Teresa Wright surpassed my expectations. I have seen some of her popular films which released later, but still she looked very matured. The writing is top notch and the credit surely goes to the original play but the addition of perfect cinematic sense deserves separate Praise. The only thing i hate about Wyler is his inconsistency, he had ups and downs and this was certainly among those Ups. Overall, a 2 hours burn but a smoke forever. Είναι λες και το ύφος αυτού εδώ του "έρημου τόπου", καθώς και πολλών άλλων ταινιών της περιόδου εκείνης, να υπαγορεύεται από μια νοοτροπία και όχι απλά να εξυπηρετεί τη φόρμα. Και επειδή ακριβώς υπάρχει υπόβαθρο στο ύφος, αυτό αποκτά οντότητα και εξελίσσεται σε μορφή τέχνης. Είναι εξαιρετικής ωριμότητας η ιστορία της ταινίας, βγαλμένη μέσα από τα σπλάχνα της κινηματογραφικής βιομηχανίας και του πόνου που προκαλούσε στους αυτάρεσκους ανθρώπους που την στελέχωναν -όπως και τώρα. Θρίλερ μυστηρίου, αισθηματικό δράμα και κοινωνική κριτική της βιομηχανίας του θεάματος, ο "έρημος τόπος" είναι το ίδιο το σπίτι και η ψυχή του απογοητευμένου και φαταλιστή σεναριογράφου, που αντιμετωπίζει το κενό της ύπαρξής του με απαξίωση για τον εαυτό του και τα πάντα. Γι' αυτό κι όταν η ερημιά του γεμίζει έστω και παροδικά με την εξίσου απογοητευμένη γειτόνισσα ηθοποιό, στην πραγματικότητα δεν είναι δύο άνθρωποι που συναντιούνται, αλλά δύο κενά δοχεία που ψάχνουν απελπισμένα να γεμίσουν ο ένας με την παρουσία του άλλου -και όλοι ξέρουμε πώς συνήθως καταλήγουν παρόμοιες απόπειρες. Με το σενάριο να εξελίσσεται με απόλυτη συγκρότηση και τη σκηνοθεσία να αντιμετωπίζει τους άδειους χώρους και τις άδειες ψυχές με ψυχραιμία και ωριμότητα, ο Μπόγκαρτ συναντά την Γκράχαμ σε ένα μαναδικής ενορχήστρωσης κινηματογραφικό κοντσέρτο, που σε γραπώνει από την πρώτη κιόλας σκηνή, για να σε στροβιλίσει στη δραματική μελωδία του μέχρι το αμφίρροπο φινάλε.
